Supreme Court of Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: The judicial commission probing the Memogate has said that the records of the BlackBerry Messenger conversation held between former Ambassador to USZ Husain Haqqani and Mansoor Ijaz must be obtained, a private news channel reported. The commission asked Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq to contact the Canadian company Research In Motion (RIM) and BlackBerry representatives in Pakistan so that forensic evidence of the conversation can be obtained.

The commission, headed by Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Muhammad Essa, held its first meeting at the Islamabad High Court. During the meeting, notices were sent to DG Inter-Services Intelligence Shuja Pasha, Ijaz, Haqqani, James Jones and other main respondents in the case. The commission ordered that security should be arranged for all respondents who come to the court to record their statements. The commission will now meet on January 9. The judicial commission, comprising High Court judges, was appointed by the Supreme Court to probe into the scandal and submit its findings within a month.

Supreme Court’s order stated that the commission was free to avail services of lawyers and experts of forensic science and cyber crimes for completion of the probe in a month. It added that all federal secretaries, the chiefs of Federal Investigation Agency, inspectors general of police of all provinces and Pakistan’s ambassador to the USZ and high commissioner to the UK shall also assist the commission.
