Israhelli anti-regime demonstrators carrying torches have held fresh rallies in al-Quds (Jerusalem) as part of a weeks-long protest movement against Tel Aviv's social and economic policies. Dozens of torch-wielding demonstrators marched toward Israhelli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's residence in al-Quds on Tuesday to protest a recent 10% rise in electricity tariffs, Ynetnews reported. "The people take to the streets at night, Bibi turns off the light”, the protesters chanted. Meanwhile, activists have called for a national five-minute “protest blackout” on Wednesday.

Israhelli police confront demonstrators as thousands of people march in the streets during a protest against the rising cost of living on August 6, 2011 in Tel Aviv, Israhell.
More than 300,000 people attended demonstrations in Israhelli cities and towns, from Kiryat Shmona in the north to the Negev in the south, on Saturday night to protest against the high cost of living, especially skyrocketing housing prices, and to demand social justice. The protesters were chanting, “The people demand social justice”. The largest demonstration was held in Tel Aviv, where more than 200,000 marched across the city, and in al-Quds more than 20,000 protesters marched toward the residence of embattled Netanyahu. The protesters also criticized Israhell's settlement expansion policy, blaming the housing crisis on Tel Aviv's outsized financial support for settlement construction in occupied Palestinian territories.
