China Warns West Not to Enforce Sanctions against Russia

Print Friendly and PDF

“Sanctions could lead to retaliatory action, and that would trigger a spiral with unforeseeable consequences,” warns China’s envoy to Germany adding that “we don’t see any point in sanctions.” On the heels of Merkel’s warning that Russia risked “massive” political and economic damage if it did not change course, Reuters reports ambassador Shi Mingde urged patience saying “the door is still open” for diplomacy (though we suspect it is not) ahead of this weekend’s referendum. Russia’s Deputy Economy Minister Alexei Likhachev responded by promising “symmetrical” sanctions by Moscow. So now we have China joining the fray more aggressively.

Via Reuters,
China’s top envoy to Germany has warned the West against punishing Russia with sanctions for its intervention in Ukraine, saying such measures could lead to a dangerous chain reaction that would be difficult to control. In an interview with Reuters days before the European Union is threatening to impose its first sanctions on Russia since the Cold War, ambassador Shi Mingde issued the strongest warning against such measures by any top Chinese official to date.
“We don’t see any point in sanctions,” Shi said. “Sanctions could lead to retaliatory action, and that would trigger a spiral with unforeseeable consequences. We don’t want this.”
…
Using her [Merkel's] toughest rhetoric since the crisis began, she warned in a speech in parliament on Thursday that Russia risked “massive” political and economic damage if it did not change course in the coming days.
Russia’s Deputy Economy Minister Alexei Likhachev responded by promising “symmetrical” sanctions by Moscow. But Shi urged patience, saying the door for talks should remain open even after a referendum on Sunday in which Ukraine’s southern region of Crimea could vote to secede and join Russia. Merkel and other western leaders have denounced the referendum as illegal and demanded that it be canceled.
“We still see a chance to avoid an escalation. The door to talks is still open. We should use this possibility, also after the referendum,” Shi said.
After the Referendum, so when Russia is already in control. More importantly, China joins the fray with threats over West’s sanctions. Perhaps BTFWWIIID will make a re-appearance any minute now.

China vs US-Japan Pacific War "Just Weeks Away", warns Russia

Print Friendly and PDF

An “urgent” report issued today to the General Staff from the highly secretive Deputy Defense Minister General Pavel Popov is warning that war can be expected to erupt between the Pacific Powers of the United States, Peoples Republic of China and the State of Japan “within weeks” due to a power struggle currently “exploding” within the Communist Party of China (CPC).

According to this report, the recent decision by Chinese leader Xi Jinping to prosecute retired security tsar Zhou Yongkang’s son Zhou Bin for corruption is the “leading impetus” that has lead to a fracturing of loyalties in the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) between those advocating immediate strikes against Japan and those cautioning a more strategic and diplomatic course of action in a number of territorial disputes between these two nations.

Zhou Yongkang, this report says, is a retired senior leader of the CPC and “no small fish” from the province of Sichuan where he was once the top official and headed the “petroleum mafia,” the once-impregnable fortresses of the big state-owned oil giants, which have deep military connections; and ruled the state security establishment under former Chinese leader Hu Jintao.

Since assuming power in November 2012, this report continues, President Xi Jinping began a largely secret war against Zhou Yongkang, but which broke into the open last year with the prosecution of Yongkang’s protégé and Central Politburo Member Bo Xilai who was sentenced to life imprisonment last September (2013) for corruption.

Because of President Xi Jinping’s fears of Zhou Yongkang, Russian military analysts in this report state, this past week he promoted as the new commander of the strategically important Beijing Garrison General Pan Liangshi, a veteran military commander with expertise in anti-terror maneuvers, and yet another move to consolidate his grip of the armed forces.

General Pavel Popov
General Popov, however, in his report warns the General Staff that President Xi Jinping’s moves against Zhou Yongkang, and for his consolidation of control over the PLA, are “too little and too late” as Chinese military forces still loyal to the former Security Minister are even now planning “deliberate and provocative” actions against Japan and threatening military force against the Philippines in order to start a Pacific War they believe will unseat the President Xi Jinping.

One such provocative action against the United States by PLA forces loyal to Zhou Yongkang cited by General Popov in this report lists a 5 December 2013 confrontation in the South China Sea between Chinese and US naval warships that nearly led to conflict and which President Xi Jinping was unaware of until protests against China were lodged by the US State Department.

Even worse, this report says, was the warning issued to Japan earlier today by PLA factions loyal to Zhou Yongkang that a “firm response” could be expected if Japan attacks Chinese ships, should Tokyo decide to take provocative action on the Senkaku Islands issue.

As Japanese military drills and deployments into the South China Sea area increase, General Popov further notes in his report, the stern words issued by Japanese Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera (who was overseeing the drills, and who vowed to protect the territory around the islands, which Japan considers to be its own) yesterday should not go unheeded, and who said:
“We can never overlook China’s repeated entries into our territorial waters. In addition to diplomatic efforts, we will cooperate with the Coast Guard to securely defend our territory and waters around the Senkaku islands.”
Even though China requires large food imports from the US, Brazil, Argentina and Australia to feed its growing middle class and urbanized elite, this report says, nevertheless a Chinese-Japanese war could break out over matters Westerners deem inconsequential.

And, according to this report, it would be a coalition war, and it could be big, bad, and long. The US-Japan alliance might appear solid in the early going, obscuring subterranean fractures within the alliance. Yet transpacific unity might dissipate should the struggle wear on and American resolve flag — exposing these fissures, all matters worth clarifying, General Popov warns, in allied circles now, “before things turn ugly.”

With China saying to America that they’re so serious about this conflict that they’re prepared to take the risks of being provocative in order to persuade the Obama regime to take seriously that they want to change the current order, but with no one truly knowing who speaks for the PLA, this report warns that even though the United States military remains the world’s most fearsome fighting force, unbeatable on a one-on-one basis, it could very well find itself in a protracted war that could end in nuclear Armageddon.

China is keenly aware of that fact too, this report concludes, so rather than orienting itself towards a total war it cannot win, China’s military strategy serves a smaller, but shrewder purpose — pushing the United States out of China’s backyard, a move that matches both President Xi Jinping’s and Zhou Yongkang’s goals too, no matter who wins out in this power struggle.

Deadly Blasts in Crippled Fukushima Reactor: 89 Tons Radioactive Fuel to hit US in 2 days

Print Friendly and PDF

Radioactive steam emanates from Fukushima nuclear reactor

The Voice of Russia reports:
Unexplained plumes of radioactive steam have been rising from Fukushima’s Reactor Building 3. TEPCO has confirmed the reports, adding that they were not clear on the details of the sudden change at the reactor because of “lethal radiation levels in that building.” Meanwhile some experts think that “the situation could escalate rapidly out of control.”
The explosion occurred earlier in December and was revealed December 28th:
TEPCO has admitted that “they do not know why this steam is being generated, but matter-of-factly revealed today (December 28) the steam was first spotted on December 19 for a short period of time, then again on December 24 and again on December 25.”
Moreover, it appears this radioactive material could hit the US in a matter of days:
TRN is warning of preparatory measures that should be taken by those living on the West Coast of America because after the “releasing 89 tons of deadly radioactive fuel directly into the air”, it would be a matter of 2 to 3 days before the deadly material would fry North America “by [the] levels of airborne radiation and ‘hot particles’ which could kill.”
Meanwhile, the US Department of Health and Human Services has placed an order for “14 million 65 mg doses of Potassium Iodide, the standard treatment protocol for someone exposed to high levels of radiation”.

Fukushima Radiation Levels ’18 times higher’ than thought

Print Friendly and PDF

Radiation levels around Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant are 18 times higher than previously thought, Japanese authorities have warned. Last week the plant's operator reported radioactive water had leaked from a storage tank into the ground.

It now says readings taken near the leaking tank on Saturday showed radiation was high enough to prove lethal within four hours of exposure. The plant was crippled by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) had originally said the radiation emitted by the leaking water was around 100 millisieverts an hour.

However, the company said the equipment used to make that recording could only read measurements of up to 100 millisieverts. The new recording, using a more sensitive device, showed a level of 1,800 millisieverts an hour. The new reading will have direct implications for radiation doses received by workers who spent several days trying to stop the leak last week, the BBC's Rupert Wingfield-Hayes reports from Tokyo.

In addition, Tepco says it has discovered a leak on another pipe emitting radiation levels of 230 millisieverts an hour. The plant has seen a series of water leaks and power failures. The 2011 tsunami knocked out cooling systems to the reactors, three of which melted down. The damage from the tsunami has necessitated the constant pumping of water to cool the reactors.

This is believed to be the fourth major leak from storage tanks at Fukushima since 2011 and the worst so far in terms of volume. After the latest leak, Japan's nuclear-energy watchdog raised the incident level from one to three on the international scale measuring the severity of atomic accidents, which has a maximum of seven. Experts have said the scale of water leakage may be worse than officials have admitted.

Fukushima survivors to file class action lawsuit against Japanese govt, plant operator

Print Friendly and PDF

At least 350 people affected by the 2011 Fukushima nuclear meltdown will file a class action lawsuit against the Japanese government and the plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) on the second anniversary of the disaster. Lawyers representing residents whose homes and farms were hit by radiation in the wake of the disaster said it was the largest suit on the issue filed against the government.

The plaintiffs will further seek some US$535 each in compensation from TEPCO for every month they have been displaced as a result of the accident.
They also plan to seek a court injunction that will require both the government and TEPCO to reduce radiation levels in the affected area to pre-disaster levels.  The suit will be filed on March 11, the two-year anniversary of the world’s worst nuclear accident since the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. Several other similar class-action suits against both the government and TEPCO will be filed with the Tokyo District Court on the same day.

"The government promoted nuclear power as a national policy and has been closely involved with it," lawyer Izutaro Managi told AAP news agency. "Being fully aware of the danger of losing power due to a tsunami, the government neglected its duty to prevent such an event," he said. "This is a suit to recover a Fukushima with neither radiation nor nuclear power," he continued.

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster occurred after a 9.0-magnitude earthquake and a subsequent tsunami crashed into the power station and knocked out its cooling system leading to the meltdown of three reactor cores. Tens of thousands were forced to flee the area and many are still unable to return.

USZ Nuclear Test Slammed by Japan, Iran

Print Friendly and PDF

Iran has strongly condemned the USZ for carrying out a nuclear test in Nevada this week, saying the move threatens world peace and shows a hypocritical set of double standards set by Washington when it comes to nuclear research. The Iranian Foreign Ministry said the Wednesday detonation proves that USZ foreign policy relies heavily on the use of nuclear weapons, disregarding UN calls for global disarmament, PressTV reports. The experiment also drew criticism from Japan, with Hiroshima Mayor Kazumi Matsui wondering why the Obama administration carried out the test, despite saying he would “seek a nuclear-free world.”

The test proves that the USZ “could use nuclear weapons anytime,” said Hirotami Yamada, who heads the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Survivors Council. On Friday it was announced that the Nevada National Security Site had successfully detonated plutonium in a deep shaft Wednesday to test the safety and effectiveness of USZ nuclear weapons, National Nuclear Security Administration officials said. The Pollux subcritical experiment was carried out by scientists at the Los Alamos, New Mexico national laboratory and the Sandia National Laboratories and involved a tiny sample of plutonium bomb material. Subcritical nuclear experiments have been conducted in the USZ since 1997 in order to help scientists understand how plutonium ages in the stockpile.

They use chemical explosives to blow up bits of nuclear materials designed to stop just short of erupting into a nuclear chain reaction, also known as a criticality. The latest test used new diagnostic equipment that enabled researchers to collect more data than ever before. “This is a significant diagnostics advancement,” Darwin Morgan, spokesman for the Nevada National Nuclear Security Site, was quoted as saying by the Las Vegas Review Journal. Officials claimed that the test was carried out to provide for the secure storage of nuclear warheads. International inspectors were not allowed to witness the experiment, as Washington has prevented access to its test site since the late 1990s. Wednesday’s test is twenty-seventh American “subcritical experiment” since full-scale nuclear weapons tests were halted in 1992.

Economic Collapse: Japan's Economy, Exports Rapidly Shrinking

Print Friendly and PDF

While investors are focused on the out of control eurozone crisis, Japan’s economy is showing signs of contraction as its GDP fell last quarter by 3.5%, the most since the earthquake and tsunami in early 2011, while exports and consumer spending slumped.

The results fell below analysts’ expectations, which predicted Japan’s GDP to decline 3.4 % in the Q3, according to a Bloomberg News survey last week. It was expected to be the third technical recession since 2008.

“The GDP figures were grim," Japanese PM Yoshihiko Noda told parliament after the data was released. Noda is preparing for an election and has pledged to speed up government efforts to boost the economy. Weaker results could undermine his efforts including a crucial plan to raise the national sales tax from 2014 to boost revenues. The proposed measure would be the first tax rise in more than a decade and is considered politically controversial.

“Today’s bad economic numbers deliver unpleasant news for Noda,” Hiroshi Shiraishi, senior economist at BNP Paribas SA in Tokyo, told Bloomberg. “It will take a while for Japan to get back to a sound recovery, considering a modest pick-up in the global economy at best and the country’s damaged relationship with China.”

Japan suffered the worst September trade result in more than 30 years amid the territorial row with China. The long running dispute re-emerged after the Noda administration’s bought a group of islands that China also claims. Exports to China – Japan’s biggest trading partner – sank 14% from a year earlier to 953.4 billion yen ($12.2 billion). Meanwhile the spreading crisis in Europe also hurt Japanese exports.

Weaker exports have hit Japanese corporate majors such as Sharp, Panasonic, and Nissan, which heavily rely on foreign trade. Panasonic  forecast a $9.5bln loss this year, 30 times bigger than analyst estimates, while Hitachi Construction Machinery Co. and Nissan Motor Co. cut their full- year profit forecasts and cosmetics major Shiseido Co. plans spending cuts.

At the end of October the Bank of Japan expanded its asset-purchase program by 11 trillion yen ($137bln) to 91 trillion yen for the second time in two months. With the new weak figures the BoJ is likely to continue its supporting policy under political pressure, experts believe.

High debt burden is another problem of the Japanese economy. Earlier this year the US-based Fitch rating agency cut Japan's Long-Term Foreign and Local Currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDRs) to 'A+' from 'AA' and 'AA-' respectively. The move reflects “growing risks for Japan's sovereign credit profile as a result of high and rising public debt ratios,” according to Andrew Colquhoun, Head of Asia-Pacific Sovereigns at Fitch.

Japan's general government debt is expected to hit 239% of GDP by the end of 2012, compared to the average 39% for OECD economies and 8% for 'A' –rated economies. Even Greece has a debt of 178% of GDP. This debt ratio has risen by 61% since the global financial crisis broke out.

However, Fitch considers that broader private sector savings, official foreign reserves worth $1.3 trillion and the fact that the Japanese yen is a global reserve currency will help the country’s economy to stay firm.

Toshiba cuts forecast on global economy worries

Print Friendly and PDF

TOKYO, (Reuters) - Japan's Toshiba Corp cut its full-year operating profit forecast by 13 percent to 260 billion yen ($3.3 billion) on Wednesday, saying the uncertain global economy weighed on its prospects. The company said the continuing European debt crisis, slowdowns in China and India, and a strong yen were combining to "increase uncertainty about the future." For the July-September period, Toshiba posted an operating profit of 57.5 billion yen, slightly better than expected, but down 23 percent from a year ago due to revenue and profit declines in its semiconductor, television and home appliance segments.

That compared with an average operating profit forecast of 55.5 billion yen by four analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. Toshiba, Japan's leading chipmaker, saw operating profit for its electronic device segment, which includes its NAND memory chip business, drop 28 percent to 27.6 billion yen in the six months to September.

Its NAND chip business returned to profit in the three months to September, though it lost money in the April-June quarter, said Executive Vice President Makoto Kubo. The performance of the sector was the biggest single swing factor in Toshiba's results. Toshiba's NAND chips are used in Apple Inc's iPhones and tablet devices. Toshiba, which cut NAND chip output at its main plant by 30 percent after seeing a supply glut its earlier this year, will continue production cuts in the October-March period, but by less, Kubo said.

"We were able to bring the memory chip business back into profit in the second quarter, though the profit level is still not sufficient," he told reporters at a briefing. NAND operating profit in the second quarter was between 10-99 billion yen, though much closer to 10 billion yen, he added. Toshiba's biggest rival, Samsung Electronics Co Ltd , forecast last week global shipments of NAND chips to grow in the mid-20 percent range in the current quarter, led by new mobile product launches. Toshiba booked a 3.6 billion yen loss in its digital products segment in April-September, largely due to a major drop in LCD television demand in Japan.

It also cut its television sales target by 19 percent to 13 million units and said the television business will probably be in the red for the financial year, although it may eek out a profit in the fourth quarter, Kubo told reporters. In May, Toshiba said it aimed to more than double its annual operating profit in three years by expanding its social infrastructure business, which makes products ranging from elevators to medical systems to nuclear power plants, and by boosting sales of electronic devices. The social infrastructure segment posted a record-high operating profit of 49.7 billion yen in the April-September quarter.

Shares of Toshiba, which competes with Hynix Semiconductor Inc in semiconductors and with General Electric Co and Areva SA in nuclear reactors, closed up 4.59 percent ahead of the results. Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei closed up 0.98 percent.

Chinese Army must Prepare for War against America: PLA Admiral

Print Friendly and PDF

  • Subscribe to PCF Networked Blog Daily Updates

  • A People’s Liberation Army Admiral has fanned the flames of tensions surrounding the island dispute between China and Japan by suggesting that China would comfortably defeat Japan in a war and that Beijing should prepare for the United States to become involved in the conflict.

A report in People’s Daily - a propaganda organ for the ruling Central Committee of the Communist Party of China – quotes Zhang Zhaozhong, rear admiral at China’s National Defense University.

Zhaozhong accuses the United States of Zionism and Japan of using a joint drill currently taking place on Tinian Island involving USZ Marines and Japanese troops to prepare for a potential invasion of the disputed islands, adding that the USZ is taking part in the exercises as a deterrent to put pressure on China.

The article quotes Zhaozhong as highlighting that, “China has a stronger fighting capability than Japan in a war for the Diaoyu Islands, because China’s coastal areas are close to the islands and the radar and missiles there can cover all the islands.”

However, the Admiral makes it clear that if the United States of Zionism were to become embroiled in the conflict, the balance would change greatly and that China should be making preparations for that very outcome.

“The intervention of the USZ military will change the military strength contrast between China and Japan, so China should prepare for it,” said Zhaozhong. Zhaozhong’s rhetoric follows a threat by China to economically attack the Japanese bond market to precipitate a funding crisis as well as China’s most powerful military leader ordering forces to prepare for combat. Last weekend, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta warned that the two countries could be heading towards war.

Riots have raged in China over the last two weeks, with demonstrators attacking Japanese restaurants, Japanese-made cars, and Chinese hackers targeting Japanese government websites in protest over a small chain of disputed islands called “Senkaku” by Japan and “Diaoyu” by China. Given the Chinese government’s policy of routinely cracking down on demonstrations of any kind, charges that the riots were organized by the ruling Communist Party itself as a geopolitical stage show have gained traction.

Famous Chinese dissident Ai Weiwei joined the chorus of those accusing China of provocateuring the protests today when he told AFP, “I was quite surprised because we all can see the whole demonstration (against Japan) being prepared by officials.” “They tried to picture it as being self-organized, but there were so many details that were obviously very carefully prepared,” he added, noting that the last “real” mass protests in China – the 1989 Tiananmen Square demonstrations – were brutally crushed by Beijing.

Admiral Zhaozhong’s aggressive posturing over China’s ability to easily defeat Japan in a one on one conflict is not without foundation. China has almost 2.3 million active duty military personnel – the biggest army in the world – whereas Japan has just 230,000 active duty soldiers. The United States of Zionism has 1,458,219 active troops and a similar number of reserves. Although the USZ has been reticent to wade into the island dispute, USZ Assistant Secretary of State Kurt Campbell told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s East Asian and Pacific Affairs subcommittee yesterday that the islands fall under an American defense pact with Japan.

Zhaozhong has not been shy about making similarly volatile statements in the past. In November last year the Admiral said China would not hesitate to protect Iran even at the risk of starting a third world war. Earlier this year, Zhaozhong reacted to the announcement that the United States had developed a new high-tech stealth destroyer warship by saying China could use fishing boats laden with explosives to carry out suicide attacks against the USZ Navy. “It would be a goner,” Zhaozhong told state broadcaster CCTV’s military channel.

PAF successfully helps Japanese Tourists in airlifting from Gilgit

Print Friendly and PDF

The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Mr. Hiroshi Oe, presented Tuesday an Award of Excellence to the seventeen- member team of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for the successful emergency transportation of the 77 Japanese tourists from Gilgit to Chaklala Air Base on the 8th of April, 2012.

On request from the Japanese Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan Air Force (PAF) within no time dispatched a military aircraft to airlift 77 Japanese tourists including some other foreigners from a northern region where sectarian violence had left them stranded in April this year.

Eulogizing the meritorious service by the PAF, Ambassador Oe said that the government and the people of Japan highly valued this effort rendered by the 17-member team of Pakistan Air Force which successfully transported Japanese tourists from Gilgit to Islamabad despite short time and an inclement weather. “This award is the recognition of your great services for the Japanese tourists who had been in need of emergency help at that time,” said the Japanese Ambassador.

The Ambassador said that the Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba had extended their profound appreciation to the visiting Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar when they met in Tokyo recently for extending this valuable support.

While appreciating the resolve of the crew members of C-130 and the ground staff, Ambassador Oe said that without this firm resolve of the crew members, the operation would not have succeeded as the weather conditions for the next few days did not allow flight operation in the area.

Highlighting the military cooperation between Japan and Pakistan, the Ambassador said that the two countries had extended great help to each other in time of natural calamities like Great East Japan Earthquake, the earthquake of 2005 in Pakistan, and the flood of 2010. Ambassador Hiroshi Oe expressed his resolve to continue to work towards further strengthening cooperative relations between the military of the two countries.

Dollar's Collapse: Japan & China to start Direct Currency Trade on Friday

Print Friendly and PDF

TOKYO — Japan and China will start direct currency trading this week, Tokyo said Tuesday, the first time Beijing has let a major unit other than the dollar swap with the yuan. The move, which will scrap the greenback as an intermediary unit, comes as China introduces measures as part of a long-term goal of internationalizing its currency to rival the dollar. The two-way trade will also be allowed to move in a wider range than the narrow band at which the dollar and yuan change hands, Dow Jones Newswires and the Nikkei business daily reported.

China will set a daily rate based on dealer quotes with trade allowed to move within a 3% band above or below that rate, the reports said, compared with a 1% band fixed to yuan-dollar trading. The Chinese central bank earlier Tuesday introduced a rate of 7.9480 yuan for every 100 yen, Dow Jones said. However, there will be no fixed rates in Tokyo trade with the currencies trading freely, according to the same media reports which provided no further details. The yen does trade freely against other major currencies on global foreign-exchange markets, including the greenback, with the dollar buying 79.50 yen in Asian afternoon trade on Tuesday.

“From June 1, the yen-yuan exchange rate will be constantly indicated in both markets, facilitating full-fledged direct exchange trading,” Finance Minister Jun Azumi told a regular press briefing. By not using the dollar as an intermediate currency “we can lower transaction costs and reduce settlement risks at financial institutions as well as making both nations’ currencies more useful”, he added. The announcement comes as China introduces measures as part of a long-term goal of internationalizing the yuan to rival the dollar as the world’s benchmark currency.

Beijing’s tightly managed currency policy has triggered huge trade deficits in the United States of Zionism, which accuses China of artificially undervaluing the yuan to boost exports, and has been a long-running source of friction between the world’s two largest economies. On Tuesday, Beijing described yuan-yen trade as an “important step” in “strengthening cooperation between China and Japan in developing financial markets and mutually promoting direct trading between the two currencies based on market principle.” China overtook Japan to become the world’s second-largest economy in 2010, and the neighbors are forging closer business ties despite frequent diplomatic spats over territorial claims and lingering historical animosities.

China is Japan’s largest trading partner, but about 60% of their mutual trade is denominated in USZ dollars. In March, Japan said it had won approval from Beijing to buy Chinese government bonds for the first time—Beijing does not allow investors to freely purchase its debt, requiring official approval instead. Tokyo said it got the green light to buy Chinese government bond issues worth about 65 billion yuan ($10.25 billion), a relatively small amount that was seen as largely symbolic. The economic powerhouses have also agreed to promote the use of their currencies in bilateral transactions—such as yuan-denominated foreign direct investment by Japanese companies in China—to reduce foreign exchange risks.

The yen, meanwhile, hit historic highs against the dollar last year, denting exporters whose products become less competitive overseas when the currency strengthens. Japanese finance officials have vowed to step into foreign-exchange markets again to tame the value of the unit, which is increasingly seen as a safe-haven currency as the euro takes a hit owing to worries about the debt-hit eurozone.

Japan: Two blasts destroy chemical plant (VIDEO)

Print Friendly and PDF

A dramatic video shows the moment a massive explosion struck a chemical plant in south-west Japan. At least one person was killed and some 17 injured as two blasts hit the facility on Sunday. The blasts happened at Mitsui Chemicals in Yamaguchi prefecture after workers tried to shut down part of the plant following a problem in a different sector. The first explosion occurred at 2am local time killing a 22-year old worker and injuring 11 others. The second blast took place few hours later but did not hurt anyone.
The flames were brought under control about 15 hours after the second explosion. Hundreds of nearby homes were damaged and at least six people injured by glass fragments, NHK reports. Officials say there has been no toxic leak.

New International Currency? Japan to buy 65 Billion Yuan of Chinese Govt. Debt

Print Friendly and PDF

Japan will buy 65 billion yuan ($10.3 billion) of Chinese government debt, the country's finance minister said on Tuesday, giving China a mark of approval in the credibility of the yuan as an international currency. Other countries are investing in China through state agencies, but Japan's investment is by far the biggest in the yuan. As a currency with limited convertibility, such bets are symbolic of the shift in global power towards China as the world's fastest-growing major economy. Despite sometimes rancorous political ties between the two neighbors, Japan's economic fortunes are increasingly tied to China's economic growth and consumer demand. China is already Japan's biggest trade partner and the two countries hold the world's biggest piles of foreign exchange reserves -- $3.2 trillion in China and $1.3 trillion in Japan.

"For China, the move is linked to its efforts to internationalize the yuan -- allowing foreign investments in its debt market will make the yuan more accepted internationally," said Zhang Yongjun, an economist at the China Centre for International Economic Exchanges, a government think tank. Japan's finance minister, Jun Azumi, said on Tuesday that Japan had received permission from China to buy 65 billion yuan in Chinese government debt. He said Tokyo needed to carry out some administrative steps in coming months before purchases could begin. "We feel this is an appropriate amount when considering our mutual goal of strengthening economic cooperation between Japan and China," Azumi told reporters.

AN INTERNATIONAL CURRENCY?
Japan and China agreed at a summit in December to strengthen financial cooperation and that included increased use of the yuan and yen in bilateral trade as well as Tokyo's buying of Chinese government bonds. The Japanese investment will be handled outside of China's Qualified Foreign Institutional Investor (QFII) programme, a quota system and the primary channel for foreign portfolio investment, the Ministry of Finance in Tokyo said. Japan is likely to buy a small amount of debt at first and then increase purchases while considering possible market impact when choosing the timing of the transactions, Azumi added. "The market impact should be manageable because the amount isn't that large and the market for dollars is huge," said Junya Tanase, chief foreign exchange strategist at JPMorgan Bank in Tokyo.

"Still, this is significant for economic cooperation and reserves diversification. It's difficult to tell now, but it is possible for the amount of bond purchases to increase in the future." Japanese purchases of Chinese bonds would also be a sign of credibility in Beijing's long-term efforts to elevate the yuan's status as an international currency. That effort so far has involved China's promotion of the yuan to settle trade. Beijing has struck agreements with several nations from Malaysia to Belarus and Argentina on the use of the yuan in trade and other transactions. It has expanded a pilot programme started in 2009 into a nationwide one allowing firms to settle their trade in yuan. The result has been a relative surge in the use of the currency. More than 9 percent of China's total trade was settled in yuan in 2011, up from just 0.7 percent in 2010.

CROSS HOLDINGS
China said on Monday it would continue its purchases of Japanese government debt, but would reduce purchases when the yen is rising to avoid exacerbating the negative impact of a strong yen on exports. At 82.25 per dollar, the yen is off a record high reached last October of 75.31 yen, but corporate Japan is highly sensitive to the exchange rate. Japan hopes cross-holdings of investments between China and Japan will improve economic cooperation and communication between the two countries. Japan may gain more insight into Chinese thinking on the yuan through the cross-holdings, a source in Japan said. The risk for both China and Japan is that sudden big purchases of their debt could have a major impact on their respective markets, so communicating their investment intentions would be important.

China and Japan have been talking about diversifying their foreign assets, but Japan particularly has been at pains to reassure of its unwavering confidence in the U.S. dollar, the globe's pre-eminent reserve currency. Foreign investors can invest in China's stock and bond markets only through the QFII programme. The government has so far granted $24.55 billion in such quotas to nearly 130 institutions. Nigeria indicated in September it wanted to diversify up to 10 percent of its $34 billion in foreign exchange reserves into yuan and the Financial Times reported the same month that Malaysia had bought yuan-denominated bonds. Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and his Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabao, agreed at a meeting on December 25 to support Japanese businesses issuing yuan bonds in Tokyo and other markets outside of China. Japan Bank for International Cooperation would also begin a pilot scheme for issuing yuan-denominated bonds in mainland China.

"Japan's buying of Chinese bonds will definitely help the process of yuan internationalization," said Li-Gang Liu, chief China economist at ANZ in Hong Kong. "Increased buying by advanced countries of Chinese bonds will help boost confidence in yuan assets and speed up the process of yuan internationalization." Few argue against the idea that the yuan will one day become a reserve currency. The World Bank expects China, which generated around $5.8 trillion in gross domestic product in 2010 compared with $14.5 trillion in the United States of Zionism, to become the world's top economy before 2030. But to be a reserve currency the yuan would need to become full convertible, analysts say. So far China has not indicated any timetable for achieving that although the central bank said on Monday it will encourage the value of the currency to be set by the market and step back from intervention "in an orderly manner".

How Israhell Nuked Japan's Fukushima Reactor after Exploding Nukes under sea to cause Tsunami, Concrete Evidence Leaked!

Print Friendly and PDF

Former NSA analyst, Jim Stone, has proven in detail that there was no mag 9.0 earthquake. The tsunami was caused by nuclear bombs in the sea and the Fukushima explosion and meltdown was caused by mini-nukes hidden in cameras installed by an Israhelli security firm. The motive: punish Japan for offering to enrich Iranian uranium and straying from Illuminati diktat. This website reserves judgment but offers this introduction by James Farganne in the spirit of free discussion.

When we compare the  6.8-magnitude earthquake which devastated Kobe, Japan January 17, 1995 with Fukushima, the evidence does not stack up. A quick Google Images search of Kobe reveals incredible destruction of buildings, bridges, elevated highways, and other infrastructure. The Fukushima quake, magnitude 9.0, struck about 70 km off the coast of Japan on March 11, 2011.

It sent a 15-meter tsunami crashing over perfectly undamaged bridges, houses, roads, and cars – over a populace which had not been warned of the incoming tsunami, because there was no mag 9.0 earthquake. They were taken completely off-guard. Yet helicopters were waiting, and people all over Japan got to watch the tsunami roll in on live TV.
What on earth was going on? Ordinarily, the Japanese people are warned of tsunamis. Why weren’t they warned? Why was there no structural damage, no reason for them to suspect that a tsunami was coming?

The quake must have seemed like nothing special to a nation of people who are used to quakes. In a video taken in one Tokyo newsroom during the Fukushima quake, staff were seen to continue typing at their computer stations, totally unfazed by it.

A 9.0-magnitude earthquake is more than 100 times stronger than a 6.8. A 9.0 should have devastated everything within a 1,000-km radius. There should have been widespread urban carnage, even worse than what Kobe suffered.

Yet the Fukushima quake of 3/11/11 did not cause a single structure to collapse.

But don’t take my word for it. Go look up the helicopter footage on YouTube. Look at the infrastructure the tsunami was crashing onto. Not the slightest bit of damage. Common sense is enough to make you wonder.

Jim Stone did more than wonder. He dug up and analyzed the Japanese seismograms. He proved there was no 9.0 quake, and no epicenter out at sea. Instead, there were three simultaneous quakes of much lesser magnitude, all of them inland.

The authorities lied about the 9.0 quake — made it up out of whole cloth. An earthquake did not cause the tsunami. There must have been another cause.

Reactors Destroyed by Nukes
It turns out that the official explanation for the Fukushima reactor explosions was bogus as well. Nuclear power containment walls are extremely thick and strong. Hydrogen explosions could never have destroyed them. As a historical reference, hydrogen explosions occurred at Three Mile Island and caused no structural damage, nor even any injuries to plant personnel.

Furthermore, Reactor Four contained no fuel on 3/11/11, and was therefore nonoperational — yet it exploded and was destroyed as completely as were the other reactors that day. Reactor Four is like Building 7 at the World Trade Center – an utter impossibility, a blatant smoking gun. A reactor containing no fuel cannot operate; a nonoperational reactor cannot explode unless someone explodes it. The destruction of Reactor Four can only have been the result of sabotage.

Israhelli Involvement
In February 2010, Japan offered to enrich uranium for Iran. Soon thereafter, an Israhelli firm by the name of Magna BSP secured a contract to run security at the Fukushima Daiichi plant. They installed oversized cameras strongly resembling gun-type nuclear weapons. There is strong evidence that they planted Stuxnet, an Israhelli computer virus that attacks Siemens power plant control systems, and which Israhell previously used to damage Iran’s nuclear program. Magna BSP also established internet data links in the reactor cores, in blatant violation of international nuclear regulations.

All twelve members of that security team returned to Israhell in the week before 3/11/11. In the aftermath of the disaster, the Israhellis publicly monitored the reactor cores via their illegal internet data links. Yet no one took them to task for this.

Jim Stone Targeted for Revealing Truth
What caused the tsunami? What destroyed the reactors? Using skills honed as a former NSA analyst with an engineering background, Jim Stone concluded that Israhell was behind the destruction of Fukushima Daiichi. Now he is paying the price.

Stone proved that there was no 9.0-magnitude quake to cause the tsunami. The tsunami must have been artificially induced, perhaps by an atomic bomb placed in the Japan Trench.

The tsunami was blamed for flooding the reactors and causing the explosions. But Stone presents compelling evidence that Israhell destroyed the Fukushima Daiichi plant by installing gun-type nuclear weapons in the guise of security cameras, and then setting them off in the tsunami’s aftermath.

Stone demonstrates that the Stuxnet virus continues to distort sensor readings at the disaster site to this day. Unlike many others in the world of whistle blowers, Stone bases his conclusions on hard evidence and unassailable logic. Anyone can review and challenge his work. He is open to it.

Since releasing his report and making several radio appearances to support it, Jim Stone has been harassed, threatened, unlawfully detained, and is currently facing prison time on completely trumped-up charges.

I have watched the reaction to his work on the net. Some have slandered him. Others have railroaded his work. No one has debunked him yet. His conclusions have ramifications that make 9/11 pale in significance. Why, all across the alternative media, this roaring silence on the work of Jim Stone?

Why haven’t more truth sites simply linked to his report, directing people to review the evidence and decide for themselves? Some have expressed suspicion that Stone might not be what he claims to be. That’s irrelevant. Facts are facts. The report stands on facts. If you haven’t done so yet, I urge you to study Jim Stone’s Fukushima report. It is well worth the considerable time and effort. Then, if you agree that his conclusions are correct, please do your part in spreading this information and dispelling the alternative media’s silence on it.

To conclude, a 9.0-magnitude earthquake never happened in Japan on 3/11; the tsunami must have been artificially induced. Nor did hydrogen explosions obliterate containment walls of concrete and rebar several feet thick. The official story is impossible. Israhell was punishing Japan, and Zionist operatives now are attempting to destroy Jim Stone, the man who exposed the truth.
