Indian attempts to sell grandson for drugs

NEW DELHI - Police in northern India said Wednesday they had arrested a 47-year-old man for selling his newborn grandson to a local businessman to buy drugs in a deal that was struck on Facebook. Feroz Khan, a resident of Ludhiana city in the northern state of Punjab 300 kilometres (200 miles) from New Delhi, had allegedly kidnapped his grandson shortly after he was born earlier this month. Khan sought help from two temporary employees at a local hospital where his daughter gave birth, who contacted the buyer on Facebook and arranged the deal for 45,000 rupees ($830).

“All three people who conspired to sell the child have been arrested and we will be interrogating the businessman who paid the money to buy the baby,” Satish Malhotra, a senior police officer in Ludhiana, said. Khan, along with nurse Sunita Rani and another person known only as Gurpreet, have been arrested for attempted kidnap. The baby’s mother, Noori a divorcee, had complained that her father was planning to sell her child. Police intervened and rescued the baby from Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi and returned him to his mother. The three accused have been charged with kidnapping and they will be produced before a court on Wednesday. 

If proven guilty, they could be jailed for seven years. Police commissioner Ishwar Singh said Gurpreet had a Facebook friend whose wife had fertility problems. The gang settled on a price of Rs 45,000 (£420). Ranni was found to have Rs 20,500 on her person, while Khan had Rs 24,000. The station house officer at the Basti Jodhewa police station said Khan had arranged to sell the baby to fund his drug habit.

In 2011, the country’s federal police admitted in court that there were 815 gangs comprising more than 5,000 members involved in the kidnapping of children for prostitution and begging across India. In March, a woman from Oklahoma tried to sell her children on Facebook in order to bail her boyfriend out of jail. Misty VanHorn, 22, wanted $1,000 (£670) or $4,000 for her 10-month-old baby and the toddler.

“Just come to Sallisaw, it’s only 30 minutes away and I’ll give you all of her stuff and let y’all have her forever for $1,000,” she is believed to have written on Facebook. Police arrested VanHorn and the children were taken into custody of the state.

The Unsung Hero of Bajaur

Lieutenant. Omer Tirmizi, a young and dynamic individual and a brave solider was posted to Bajaur Agency to counter Taliban insurgency in 2008. He comes from a family of soldiers, who devoted their entire lives to protecting our motherland. Most of the young officers of his age and experience are hesitant to face these highly trained and well equipped barbarians in their home ground, but the day he received his orders of being posted to the war-struck area of Bajaur, he knew he his dream had come true and the reason he was made for will be tested to the core.

I still remember his words when he was about to leave for Bajaur: ” I will be lucky to come back alive, but I dont wish for that luck, I just pray that He gives me the courage and faith to live upto my name, this uniform I wear and the flag that is pasted on my forearm ” 

Having known him for years, as a friend and as a brother, I knew he was special and made for “war”. Since the day he left for Bajaur, I started waiting for the “good” news.

And the news came, Omer had been critically injured and from fighting the so-called talibs, he was now battling for life. The news got to me when he was being flown in a helicopter to CMH Peshawar, and doctors had informed his retired father and loving mother about his critical condition. ” We would lose him, WE WOULD LOSE HIM ” were the words of the doctor in the air urging the pilot to fly as quickly as possible.

The mother who used to worry about his son’s habit of not taking breakfast and running after him around the house, had lost her senses. Her loved one was battling for life!

The moment of truth had actually passed few hours ago, when he was ordered to lead a team of a few jawans into a talib-controlled stronghold. He being the only officer had to coordinate with his superior as to when to send the Cobras after his team’s mission was accomplished. He lead his brave jawans into the compound, knowing that his enemy were veterans in the field of guerilla warfare, an art of war neither he or his team was trained to counter. They had to adapt to this way of war, in areas their hostiles knew like their own backyards. And so did they! They fought bravely for hours and though overnumbered significantly, with limited ammunition and supply. They managed to distract over 200 talibans and as per their plan, called for backup support of helicopters and artillery shelling but to their surprize were told not to wait for the back-up as the promised support had to be diverted somewhere else.

Moments like these, test the faith of a soldier. Surrounded by enemy, with bullets and rockets hurling past their ears, they could not retrieve. Omer ordered his men to lay down and hide in the fields initially, thinking it would be madness to try and fight in such a situation where death was inevitable. He assembled his men, head to head, laying down in the fields and informed them of the situation.
“ This is the moment we were made for, this is the day we were trained for, this is the day our mothers fed us for and this is the moment our fathers prayed for glory! I cannot force you to embrace death, which seems inevitable in this situation, so I beg for your advice. We all have to die, if somehow He wishes to give us some more time, we might end up dying on beds, but we all used to shout back in our training days – LIVE LIKE ALI * , DIE LIKE HUSSEIN * . So do you want to live like Hazrat Ali Sher-e-Khuda and die like Hazrat Imam Hussein ? “

Listening to these words of their commander, the jawaans without even slightest of utters stood up together and pointed their guns towards the trees their enemies were firing from. Omer had lost his senses, the Nasha of shahadat and the will to defeat these ignorants who had defamed Islam and Pakistan overwhelmed his ability to think. He jumped out of the fields, came in the open ground where there was not even a single inch of earth that was not hit by bullets and rockets.

7 men were now face to face with enemy 20 times more. ” Nayar-e-Haidri ” – ” Ya ALI ” was heard amongst the sound of bullets. ” Himmat-e-Marda’n – Madad-e-Khuda ” saw its real interpretation and they saw their enemy falling down from the trees hit by their shots. Some who managed to jump down and moved towards this little army of only a few men, got hit before reaching 10 feet closer and died near their boots damped with blood. Omer saw one of his jawaans leg flying towards him, blood and human flesh plagued his uniform but he still stood strong and kept on reciting the praises to His lord.

Omer was drunk in the wine of martyrdom, he did not realize he was hit by a sharpnel until he found himself lying in the fields, he felt something in left leg and when he looked, a shower of blood was flowing out. He could not see his jawaans, as some of them had been martyred and some had retrieved. He lay alone, in the fields, wounded but still wanting to stand up and fight. Having tried two or three times, he realized that he could not move his leg. He heard his enemies coming closer and talking in the local language that they have an officer injured, which meant a lot of money! He had heard stories of them peeling off officer’s skins and disgracing their uniform. He could not let that happen! His hands pierced in his pockets, grabbing a grenade, and waiting for them to come closer so that he could blow himself up. Each second seemed like an hour, the time was moving in slow-motiom. They were near now, his grenade’s pin was in his mouth, ready to take it out and kill them, so what if he had died with them! But then “khota” – his favorite jawaan of relatively chubby stature came running towards him along with some jawaans who had retrieved, forcing the enemy backwards. “Khota” managed to pick Omer and started running towards their base, bullets and rockets passed them by but khota ran like leopard then, and Omer still found an element of humor in it .
He was brought to the base, given first aid and was boarded on a helicopter for immediate surgery in CMH Peshawar. He could hear the words of the doctor narrated above ” We would lose him, WE WOULD LOSE HIM ” but now having felt death so closely, his fear of it had vanished.

Omer had undergone several surgeries since then, he is on wheelchair with one leg disabled. And he still says with vigour, ”It was just net practice, the real moment of truth will come again”

His team had managed to kill over 50 insurgents that day, his Commanding Officer had a leg amputated and then lost his life afterwards. Many of his close friends and coursemates embraced shahadayt’
In midst of all the negativity that one witnesses in the country, brave men and women like Omer give us hope. If they are ready to blow themselves them, we have an army of 16 Crore willing to die for the green flag! HONOR THEM!!

Pakistan successfully launches Hatf IV Shaheen-1

Pakistan today conducted a successful launch of the Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile Hatf IV Shaheen-1 Weapon System. The missile incorporates series of improvements in range and technical parameters of the existing missile. It is capable of carrying nuclear and conventional warheads to a range of 900 Kms.

Today’s launch, whose impact point was at sea, was witnessed by Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, Chairman NESCOM Mr Muhammad Irfan Burney and other senior military officers, scientists and engineers.

Director General Strategic Plans Division Lieutenant General (Retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai congratulated all scientists and engineers on the successful launch. He said that the improved version of Shaheen 1 has consolidated and strengthened Pakistan’s deterrence abilities manifold. He appreciated the efforts of all personnel for their dedication and professionalism.

Pakistan’s Youth Favor Sharia Over Democracy

More Pakistani youth would prefer Islamic law or military rule than democracy, a survey suggests. More than half of 5,000 18-29 year-old Pakistanis polled said democracy had not been good for them or the country. Some 94% said Pakistan was going in the wrong direction, up from 50% in 2007, the British Council survey found.

Almost a third of registered voters in Pakistan are under 30 years old, and are expected to play a big part in a general election due in May. When asked to pick the best political system, both Sharia and military rule were favoured over democracy. The survey points towards a pessimistic generation, disenchanted with democracy after five years of civilian rule, says the BBC's Orla Guerin in Islamabad.

Most of those surveyed had more faith in the army than any other institution. Approval ratings for the military were about 70% compared with just 13% for the government. A quarter of respondents said they had been directly affected by violence, or had witnessed a serious violent event.

That figure rose to more than 60% in the tribal areas bordering Afghanistan.
The greatest concern for most was rising prices, not terrorism: Almost 70% said they were worse off now than five years ago. While many young people are registered to vote, less than half of those surveyed said they were certain they would do so.

An open letter to 'Pakistanis' from 'Pakistan'

Assalam-o-Alaikum, I am Pakistan.

Although I was physically born on the 14th of August 1947 but ideologically when the first Hindu entered the premises of Islam. Ever since my birth, 65 years have passed yet for some reason, I stand alone.  In these 65 years, I saw both ebb and flow but as a matter of fact I faced more hardships than  joys. Even after covering 65 years of my life, I feel myself feeble, lonely and friendless. At times I feel that I was born old, there is an aged man hidden inside me from day one, may be because I used to dwell in the hearts of many people from a very long time. 65 years is a great span of life to achieve something, to get standing at a peak where others have to raise their heads to see you. Ain't it? But sighs... I have my friend China, who was just around 2 years younger than me but now excels me in every aspect of her life, so much that now she's going to be the great super power of the world while I, the elder one would stand behind her. This is indeed saddening for me.  I feel depressed and gloomy whenever I  ponder upon the factors and the reasons behind my lagging behind.

I was born to a great person, Jinnah, who had turned Quaid-e-Azam by that time. Indeed he was a man of matchless attributes. Just and honest -- fair and dignified. His highly esteemed character compelled even his worst enemies to pay him utmost respect and honour. He was the great Quaid -- My beloved founding father! I was just a year old when my beloved father departed from this world and left me alone among angels and devils.  I remember, although I was small, but I could still recall how chaste, compassionate and modest Quaid was. He was a man of great salvation. His connection with Allah (God) and the Holy Prophet (s.a.w.w) was highly mystical and fascinating. Many a times, I saw him prostrated, miserably crying like a child in solitude. That sight used to be heart-touching and soul-shaking by God. It used to make my eyes fill with tears too. 

When I grew a little bigger, I slowly learnt how Jinnah transformed to Quaid. It was due to the blessed relationship with Iqbal that Jinnah turned to Quaid. Iqbal whom the wise call a great man of Allah, a faqeer, darwaish and a mard-e-Qalander (saint) was a direct mentor of my Quaid. Iqbal was the person who did spiritual upbringing of Quaid and trained him to be the soldier of Allah. From Quaid's brought up one could easily imagine how spiritual, mystical and pious his mentor would have been. 

My founding father along with his companions; Liaqat Ali Khan, Sardar Abdurrab Nishtar etcetra laid my foundation on purely Islamic basis. They wanted my social model to be based upon Islamic socialism and my economy to be free from  western model of interest and Riba based economy. By birth, I had essence of Islam in my roots which I inherited from my founding fathers so my inclination towards Islam was magnificent. 

After the departure of my founding fathers, I was left alone in the hands of my steps. At some point in time I was also hijacked totally and completely by the foreign forces who caused a severe damage to my Ideological and spiritual essence. Today I lag behind only because I was maltreated by my steps who compelled me to do what I was not meant for. 

They put me into debates of democracy and dictatorship not realizing this could be highly hazardous for me. They imposed democracy on me which was against my nature and I could no longer keep my people prosper, happy and contented. This democracy brought looting and plunder on a wide scale on my ground and I kept watching silently. It brought anarchy, chaos and bloodshed and I kept weeping tears of blood. It snatched justice, law and order from my land and I could do nothing. The most heartless and cruel thing my fosters could do to me was imposing Secularism on my sacred land. I was forced to see gayism, lesbianism, homosexuality, dance parties, night pubs get common while my heart used to bleed. The ladies of my land who were once honored and regarded more than that of any other land, depraved their own self by welcoming and embracing the evil of secularism. 

My childhood neighbor India, who on her own took me as an enemy whereas I used to cherish her as a friend, actually turned into my worst enemy for some reason I was unaware of. Whenever I extended a friendship hand towards her, she would hurt me by stabbing in my back. Eventually I started disliking  & avoiding her. During the reign of Democracy, the cruel rulers and so called champions of Secularism started selling me to India for a few dollars. They compromised my waters to India, leaving my people to starve out, my economy dwindling. They deployed a media on my land which was a direct mouth piece of India and used to propagate lies and deception against me. It also imported India's nasty ideology and Hindu culture to corrupt my unwise nation. 

There also existed a heap of pseudo intellectuals on my land who were anti-Islam and pro-Secularism in nature and aimed at weakening my ideological roots. They abused my Quaid by tagging him secular and propagating lies against him in large number. They also wanted to eliminate the existence of Iqbal from my land in order to mark him irrelevant. This all was being done through a sinister conspiracy plotted against me very cunningly but I stood silent; all alone. 

Later, the dirty leadership combined with the secular pseudo intellectuals and the fifth columnist media started maligning and undermining my only guardians - the armed forces of my land. I could always feel to the core of my heart how selflessly and zealously my Jawans used to protect my borders and my soil against the Hindu or any other aggression. 

This all shook my roots and always hurdled me in my way to progress. Quaid laid the foundation of my progress in Islamic socialism. Once it was uprooted from me, expecting me to progress was absurd. You might be thinking despite so much resistance and opposition, even after so many endeavors to shatter me, I still stand safe and protected with my nuclear assets and will keep standing safe like this. How? I know the secret behind it.

I am a blessed land who has the shadow of special blessing of Rasool Allah (s.a.w.w) upon and I'm destined to do what all other countries are not. Despite the fact that mostly corrupt regimes have ruled me, I am hopeful that one day I'll be ruled and owned by Patriots who would be Nigah Buland, sukhan dilnawaz, jaan pursooz. Who would be sweet and tender among friends and hard as an Iron among enemies. I know who they are, where they are. Had I not been foretold about the brightest of futures I have, I would have collapsed in the very beginning. Since I know my destiny, my faith never fades away. In the future you'll witness me as a bulwark of Islam, leading the United states of Islam under one flag. Those who love and live for me will  witness my victory in Ghazwa-e-Hind.

Now the choice is yours, either you want to be my loyal, stand on the right side of history, help build and enhance my ideological grounds in order to strengthen me as a whole or deceive and betray me like the depraved tens of thousands of people did. Remember, if you betray me, you'll be deadly reckoned by Allah in the hereafter, after all I was consigned to you by Allah and His beloved Rasool Allah (s.a.w.w).

Lahore becomes 2nd largest Jewellery Production Hub

ISLAMABAD - Lahore has become the 2nd largest jewellery production hub of Pakistan after Karachi, as more than 25000 business enterprises related to gems and jewellery are operating in Punjab, providing employment to more than 20,0000 individuals. Traditionally Lahore had always been a land of finesse artisans and this tradition had transcended in the jewellery industry as well. Continuing its progress on the mandate of development of gems and jewellery industry, Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) had established a Gems and Jewellery Training and Manufacturing Centre (GJTMC) at Lahore.

 The centre is successfully providing training and common facility services to the gems and jewellery industry of Punjab. Talking to APP, an official said the training center was not only for the jewellers but for everybody who wanted to learn to design jewellery. “With its new approach in jewellery making, GJTMC will help refine artistic abilities to making jewellery while working in a creative and rewarding jewellery profession”.

 Classes are taught through live demonstrations, as well as though lecture supported by multimedia presentations and comprehensive exercises which provide students with rich and rewarding learning experience in the best suited environment. Official said GJTMC Lahore possesses a highly qualified, immensely experienced and very dedicated faculty who helps the students to bring forth their creativity and convert dream ideas into beautiful jewellery pieces. In an effort to further support the growing industrialisation of the province, PGJDC intends to open a GJTMC in thriving gems and jewellery industry of Sargodha in near future as well.

 Gem exhibition attract people in large number: The third annual Islamabad Gem Exhibition, featuring Pakistan’s minerals, precious gemstones and jewellery, remained the point of attraction for residents of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, here yesterday. Third Islamabad Gem exhibition commenced here on Friday, showcasing the best of Pakistan’s Gems and Jewellery products, both traditional and contemporary class. Pakistan Gems & Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) is organising the grand event of international standard, a 3 day extravaganza from February 1-3.

 The event highlighted Pakistani Gems and Jewellery products in the most versatile manner, where the international buyers were introduced to the rich Pakistani market. According to an official in PGJDC Abdul Ahad this event focused on exhibiting Gems and Jewellery produced through latest technology and skills.

 He said the intricately crafted jewellery and precious/semi-precious gemstones found in Pakistan were being revealed to an entire new market and foreign buyers. The exhibition provided a lucrative platform to the thriving gems and jewellery sector of the country, where enabling environment was created both for local and international traders to interact and promote business.

 “Jewellers, gem dealers and manufacturers of sectoral machinery, tools, equipment and accessories have displayed their products during the Show”.

 Ministry of production Secretary Gul Muhammad Rind inaugurated the exhibition here on February 1.

Pakistan-China Bilateral Trade Crosses $12 Billion Mark

The overall bilateral trade between Pakistan and China in 2012 crossed the figure of $12 billion for the first time according to the latest data released by China Customs.

“This puts us firmly on track to achieve the target of $15 billion in the next two to three years, said Pakistan Ambassador to China Masood Khalid following the news.

 “The leadership of the two countries has paid special attention in augmenting and cementing trade relations between our two countries and bringing them at par with our strategic partnership and political relations,” the Ambassador added.

 The data shows that Pakistan-China trade increased by 17.6% to a total of $12.4 billion in 2012. In a welcome development, Pakistan’s exports to China increased by 48.2% to $3.14 billion while imports from China increased by 9.9% to $9.2 billion. The two way trade in 2011 was $10.6 billion.

 The biggest increase in Pakistan exports to China in 2012 has been in textiles and textile articles, vegetable products, ores and mineral products, leather goods and base metals. Similarly, major imports from China include machinery and mechanical appliances, textiles and textile products, metals, chemical products, mineral ores, plastic scrap and transport equipment.

 Ambassador Khalid praised the role played by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and the Pakistan Federation of Chambers and Commerce in boosting the trade between the two countries.

 He said Pakistan also actively participated in a number of fairs last year such as the Eurasia Expo, Canton Fair and Kunming Fair which provided exhibitors from Pakistan to display their products and helped boost exports. Pakistan traders have been especially focusing on textiles, leather, sports goods, precious stones and handicrafts, he said.

 “We hope to build on this momentum and further increase our trade in future,” said Ambassador Khalid. More trade delegations from Pakistan would be encouraged to visit China and participate in the fairs, he said.

“We have an excellent and broad economic architecture in place between our two countries. In order to exploit it fully, it is vital to diversify our export basket, introduce value addition and provide better quality of goods and services,” he added.

Is the rotten Pakistani Politics at daggers drawn?

BrassTacks -- Pakistan’s National Security Analysis -- for those who are NOT deaf, dumb and blind!! 

Taking advantage of the anarchy, chaos, confusion and weakest leadership in Pakistan, Indian tried to change the geography of the Line of Control on the Kashmir front. A short, fierce battle ensued but Indians failed and were pushed back though the environment in the area remains tense. For many months now, Indians have been focusing on supporting the insurgencies, TTP and BLA against Pakistan and had not been directly engaging Pakistan army on the eastern sector. This attempt by the Indians is a feeler to test the waters and the preparedness of Pak army. In the coming months, Indians will be conducting more on such probing attacks as the situation within Pakistan is expected to get more and more chaotic. 

With the political anarchy spreading across the entire country, the levels of violence, terrorism, urban insurgency and chaos is also rising exponentially. This week also, we saw insane levels of violence in every corner of the country. There is definitely urgency within the insurgents to exploit the political and judicial anarchy.  Security forces are fighting back with all the resources in a war which is a high intensity conflict in an urban environment. From jet fighters to special operations by covert means, all axis of force is being deployed. 

There is no doubt that the CIA backed TTP has been badly bruised and pushed back into Afghanistan after a long bloody slog by the Pakistan army. Now the insurgent group is weakened, isolated, dislocated and suing for peace to gain time to regroup. Signing any peace deals with the dreaded terrorist group when they are at their weakest would be a catastrophic military blunder and army is cautioning the government not to rush into any offer by the militants. 

But the mission of Pakistan army has been made near to impossible by direct CIA involvement to destroy any pro-Pakistan assets in the region to fight the TTP. There is absolutely no doubt now that CIA is fighting Pakistan through the proxies of TTP and BLA and is actively eliminating all those tribals who sign peace deals with Pakistan or show their willingness to fight the TTP. This treacherous betrayal by the CIA is still NOT acknowledged at the official levels though everyone knows about it at all levels. The secretary defense Lt General Asif Yasin Malik had even mentioned this last week. 

This week, CIA eliminated a strong pro-Pakistan local militant commander, Mullah Nazeer, who had earlier survived an assassinating attempt by the TTP. Once TTP failed, CIA sent in a drone to finish the job. In another attack, another pro-Pakistan commander belonging to Hafiz Gul Bahadur group was targeted and eliminated. It is actually that dirty war where CIA is directly fighting Pakistan but the government and the army leadership still remain silent.

While the 4th and 5th generation wars rage within Pakistan, the politicians remain busy in petty squabbles, power grabbing, turf wars and preparing for elections, creating more and more anarchy every day. There is absolutely no concern for the national security, economic collapse or the political or ideological vision. It is a fish market with a bloody touch. MQM and the new entrant Dr. Tahir ul Qadri are threatening a “drone attack” on Pakistan within the next week and turning Islamabad into another Tehreer square.  The ruling PPP’s alliance with other parties is now in a chaos also with all other parties flexing their muscles and looking for best opportunities to grab more power and wealth. Downright dirty it is. Zardari is genuinely concerned now as the date of the “long march” approaches. 

Meanwhile, the common citizens and the society suffer staggeringly as the government destroys the last remnants of the state and the economy. It is an artificially created crisis of gas to protect and “bless” the cartels in power to make windfall profits through imports of oil. 

As the “last straw” on the camel’s back, the government plans to deploy 150,000 troops for election duties, drawing the already over stretched army from counter insurgency operations and defense of the country on the East. Drawing such a huge number of troops from the strategic reserves or from the active duty troops would mean depleting the national defense to dangerous levels. For now, Pakistan army is going along the PPP regime’s plans but in our assessment this is a fatal mistake which will have staggeringly high cost later on. 

The next two weeks would be very critical and decisive in the country. On January 14th, “tehreer square” styled sit-in is planned in Islamabad by “millions” of followers of Altaf Hussian and Tahir ul Qadri – the gangster and the priest have joined hands in a most bizarre alliance which is threatening not just the remains of the government but also the entire decayed political system! 

If the march goes ahead, then the field would be open for all forces to intervene. The terrorists would have the sitting ducks to target. The government would deploy its resources to stop the marchers from reaching the parliament. Army would watch in silence with troops ready close by for any intervention if needed. 

We would advice no traveling even within Islamabad after 12th January. The game is wide open now but the government and the judiciary as well as the media and the army remain focused on the elections for now or the spoilers who have come from outside to change the rules of the game. The national security and the 4th and 5th generation war is definitely not the priority of any of the power brokers for now. That is the real tragedy.

Pakistan successfully test-fires MRBM Hatf V (Ghauri)

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan today successfully conducted the training launch of Medium Range Ballistic Missile (MRBM) Hatf V (Ghauri).The launch was conducted by a Strategic Missile Group of the Army Strategic Force Command on the culmination of a field training exercise that was aimed at testing the operational readiness of the Army Strategic Force Command. Ghauri ballistic missile is a liquid fuel missile which can carry both conventional and nuclear warheads over a distance of 1300 kms.The test monitoring of the launch was conducted at the National Command Centre through the medium of National Command Authority s fully automated Strategic Command and Control Support System (SCCSS). 

It may be recalled that the SCCSS enables robust Command and Control capability of all strategic assets with round the clock situational awareness in a digitized network centric environment to decision makers at the National Command Centre (NCC). The test consolidates and strengthens Pakistan s deterrence capability, and national security.The President and Prime Minister congratulated all ranks of the Army Strategic Force Command on the excellent standard achieved during training which was reflected in the proficient handling of the weapon system in the field and the accuracy of the training launch

Sympathy for Sandy among Pakistan's forgotten flood victims

While the United States recovers from superstorm Sandy, away from the glare of the international media, five million Pakistanis are struggling to get by in the country's third successive year of massive floods. Two years after the worst floods in Pakistan's history captured the world's attention, this summer's monsoon rains once again inundated huge areas of the Indus Valley, with rural parts of Sindh province the worst hit. At the floods' peak in September, more than quarter of a million were in relief camps across the country. Many have now gone home, but in Sindh, 160,000 remain homeless.

Abdur Razzaq Mirali is among them. As hundreds of thousands of Americans wait for their electricity to come back on after Sandy, 55-year-old Mirali's ambitions are rather more modest. "Look, this is my house," he told AFP, pointing to a small mudbrick building half-submerged in filthy brown water. "I am waiting here for the water to recede so we can start our normal life again."
Mirali and his family have waited two months so far and still their village -- also called Mirali -- swims knee-deep in foul-smelling water polluted with human and animal waste, where snakes dart around.

The 80 families of the tiny hamlet in Sindh's Jacobabad district, around 500 kilometres (300 miles) north of the metropolis of Karachi, shelter in makeshift shacks on a patch of higher ground overlooking their waterlogged homes and fields. The world has paid scant attention to Pakistan's flood victims this year. No blanket media coverage, no benefit concerts by pop stars, just foreign aid organisations doing their best on the ground with limited resources. But among Mirali's flood victims there is no resentment of the global attention lavished on America's eastern seaboard, only gratitude for US help and a feeling of solidarity not always present in a country where anti-American feeling often runs high.

"We should not be jealous of them. They are very generous people who have always helped us. They deserve the attention now when they are in duress," said farmer Ghulam Ali, 26. "What we just want is to be helped to restore our normal life." In this remote rural area, foreigners are a rare sight and so all white aid workers are regarded as "Americans". "It is really amazing to see these Americans are helping us here despite having a much worse storm in their own country," said Hashim Mugheri, dressed in a worn-out shirt and loincloth and sporting a grey walrus moustache. "The Americans are helping us here and some of our people are still abusing and hating them," he said.

National Disaster Management Authority says five million people have been affected by this year's floods, three million of them in Sindh, and more than 1.1 million acres (450,000 hectares) of crops destroyed. With so much farmland under water, there are fears for food supplies. The World Food Programme (WFP) is working to supply 1.2 million people with rations for and hopes to extend the scheme for 700,000 of the most vulnerable for a further two months. "This three-month intervention will ensure continued unconditional food support as lands are inundated and crop planting remains unlikely in many areas," said Nicole Carn, WFP Emergency Response Coordinator in the region. "While floodwater is slowly receding in many areas, food insecurity remains a major concern in the affected areas." The NDMA says it has handed out more than 230,000 37-kg ration packs with rice, flour, lentils and other essentials -- more than 50,000 of them in Jacobabad district.

But food problems look set to continue. The floods mean the "rabi" crop -- planted in the winter for a spring harvest -- will be disrupted, threatening supplies next year. NGOs are warning that more help is needed, and quickly, and Wahab Pandhrani, who heads local aid group Pirbhat said Islamabad had let its people down by not appealing for foreign assistance. "The government committed a huge blunder by taking the disaster too lightly," Pandhrani said.

"There is still time to launch an appeal for international help as we could face a huge problem in food security and malnutrition shortly." Stacey Winston of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said nearly $170 million was needed to support families for up to six months with food, water, shelter and other necessities, particularly with winter approaching.

Pakistan has made a record of holding and making 13 records in the shortest period. In this regard on October 22, 2012 Pakistan made two records by preparing the largest national flag and biggest picture of the world in Lahore on Monday. More than twenty four thousand persons made the world’s largest human flag in National Hockey Stadium during the Punjab Youth Festival on Monday night. Another world record was made by preparing the biggest picture of the world. One thousand nine hundred and thirty six persons jointly made the picture of Red Fort. Pakistani masses proves that they are peach loving country and has strength to do anything. Keep it up Pakistani nation!

The Ignorant Scholars of the Current Era

When all sources of information start propagating lies and nations start believing them, the mark of destruction is stamped upon them. Some of the media of information in my country are well dominated by those who pride themselves in proving that our ancestors and forefathers were ignorant, illiterate, uncivilized and cruel brutes. And though the majority of the residents of this country believed in Hinduism, Sikhism, Budhism or Jainism a few generations ago; the wrath of the intelligentsia falls exclusively upon the Muslims, and especially the Muslim rulers. And the favourite target for all this condemnation is Aurangzeb Aalamgeer. Among all Mughal emperors, he was particularly pious, God-fearing and just. These ‘magnanimous’ scholars are like the rich son who has settled in the city. When his father pays him a visit, clad in a simple villagers’ attire, a discolored turban and ragged slippers, his first attempt is to hide him so he remains unseen. If not possible, he announces that it is just a servant come from his village to pay him a few days’ visit.

One of the most popular TV channels of this country has been broadcasting an advertisement for a few weeks, based on a historical lie on the name of education. It attempts to show that while the West was establishing universities, the Mughal emperors were busy constructing the Taj Mahal and Shalamar Bagh. I will come to the historical evidence later on. Allow me to give a simple lesson in common sense first. If the said TV channel had been fortunate enough to have someone enjoying the most humble and basic IQ level, such a person would not find it difficult to understand that the innovative skill required in creating the architectural masterpieces of the Mughal Empire, was not possible without two factors.

Firstly, a complete expertise in the art of architecture, which includes sciences dealing with the refining of the minutest details of the basic structures; like geometry, physics and chemistry as well as others. Secondly, a strong economic and financial status of the country; so strong that its rulers could afford the high cost of setting up these great buildings. The detailed art of architecture exhibited in Taj Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Shalamar Bagh, Tomb of Humayun, Deewan-e-Khaas, etc. indicates that their architects had fully mastered the science of geometry. The four minarets of Taj Mahal were slanted to the outside by just half an inch each, so that in case an earthquake causes them to fall, the domes might stay unharmed. All this is not possible through the mere arrangement of bricks by a bricklayer; it requires a detailed study of mathematics. The Taj Mahal stands upon a base that is ninety feet deep. Its bottom was lined by a thirty feet height of sand so that in case of an earthquake, the whole building might just take a little rotation and remain safe. 

Only a detailed study of mathematics and geometry can lead to such a decision. Tile mosaic is an art in which the walls are decorated with pictures using small colourful tiles. This art exhibits itself in the kilometer-long decorated wall of the Shahi Qila of Lahore as well as Masjid Wazeer Khan. In order to be able to prepare the colours used in them, you should be well versed in the chemistry taught today. The same can be said about the fresco paintings, the colours of which have not yet faded, not even after the passage of four hundred years. In all the Mughal buildings, underground pipes made of terra cotta (hard, baked clay) are found. They were used for sewerage and the channeling of water. Today, they still remain in their original form even after the passage of centuries. If we try to acquire the complete knowledge of Mughal architecture and prepare a course of study for this purpose, based on the scientific principles of today, PHDs will be required for the individual study of each of these arts. Was all this possible in the India where illiteracy prevailed and the rulers of which despised knowledge?

I will only present the testimonies of the Western historians, because our greatly learned scholars are allergic to the testimony of any local or Muslim scholar. Will Durant is the most popular historian and philosopher of the Western world. He writes in his book ‘Story of Civilization’ about Mughal India: “There used to be a school master in each village, whose salary was paid by the government. Before the advent of the English, Bengal alone had 80 thousand schools. There used to be a school per every four hundred people. Five subjects were taught in these schools, namely: grammar, arts and crafts, medicine, philosophy and logic.” He wrote in another of his books, ‘A Case for India’, that in the Mughal era, there were one lakh twenty five thousand institutions in Madras alone, where medical sciences were being taught and medical services were provided. 

Major M. D. Basu has written many books on the British rule and the India before it. Referring Max Muller he writes: “There were 80 thousand schools in Bengal before the English came there.” A tourist named Alexander Hamilton came to India during the rule of Aurangzeb Aalamgeer. He wrote that there were four hundred colleges specializing in the study of arts and sciences in the city of Thatha alone. Major Basu even went on to write that the knowledge of the common Indian in fields of philosophy, logic and science was superior to even that of the elite/Lords of England, including the King and the Queen themselves. James Grant’s report is worth being remembered. He wrote: “Muslims were the first in the world to endow properties for the sake of educational institutions. 

When the English occupied the whole of India in 1857, five thousand teachers had been receiving their salaries from the government funds in the small district of Rohel Khand alone.” All the above mentioned areas were located in the outskirts, far from the central cities of Delhi, Lahore or Agra. English and Hindu historians agree that the progress in the field of education reached its peak during the rule of Aurangzeb Aalamgeer. For the first time in the history of the subcontinent, he made the salaries of Muslim and Hindu teachers equal, while even a ’secular’ like Akbar had been giving a smaller amount to Hindu teachers. It was Aurangzeb who endowed properties for the first time to religious institutions belonging to all the different beliefs present in India. He arranged for salaries to be paid by the government to the people working in them. 

Three Hindu historians of that era are very popular, namely Sajan Rai Khatri, Bheem Sen and Eeshwar Das. Sajan Rai Khatri wrote ‘Khulaasat-ut-Tawareekh”, Bheem Sen wrote ‘Nuskha-e-Dilkusha’ while Eeshwar Das wrote ‘Futoohat-e-Aalamgeeri’. These three Hindu scholars agree that for the first time in India, Aalamgeer got a complete study course prepared for the study of medicine, and got books like Tibb-e-Akbar, Mufarrih-ul-Quloob, Tareef-ul-Amraaz, Mujarrabaat-e-Akbari and Tibb-e-Nabawi prepared to be made a part of the curriculum in colleges so that medicine could be taught at a higher level. All these books are of the level of the MBBS curriculum of today. Firoz Shah had established a hospital in Delhi, known as Dar-ush-Shifa, many centuries before Aurangzeb. It was Aurangzeb who got the course book known as Tibb-e-Firoz Shahi prepared to be taught in colleges. During his rule, there were more than a hundred hospitals in Delhi alone.

I can present thousands of such testimonies from history. Have a look at the census of each district in 1911, found in Anarkali Maqbara of Lahore, if possible. You will notice that the literacy rate in each of these districts was more than 80%, which happens to be the highest in the world during that age. But when the English left this country, this percentage had fallen to 10%. Bengal was occupied in 1757. During the next 34 years, all the schools and colleges of the Muslims were ruined. Then, in order to complete the destruction of this country, Lord Cornwallis set up the first religious school in 1871. Before this, there was no distinction between religious and secular schools. Quran as well as science and philosophy were all taught in the same schools. These are the testimonies of history. But if the advertisers still want to trade in falsehood, who can spoil their business?

The name of Abu Jahl was Amr ibn Hisham. He was so intelligent and well educated that the people of Makkah called him Abu-al-Hikam meaning the Father of Wisdom. But my Guide, Peace Be Upon Him, said: He is the father, not of wisdom, but of ignorance. He is Abu Jahl. Today’s world too is not empty of Fathers of Ignorance.
