The Balochistan Frankenstein

Print Friendly and PDF

Before I express my condolences for the murder of Rationalism within the Baloch Community and martyrdom of ‘realization’ from the rest of the Pakistani society, I would like to share some relevant information about our insensitivities as Pakistanis. So much for the Aman ki Asha program aimed to build intra-cultural relationship with the neighboring India, one wonders why such a program is not launched to build strong bonds within the country first?

What does a student from LUMS University Lahore knows about a student from Bolan Medical College? What are the political views of Peshawar University students and how do Karachi University students perceive certain political issues in the country? The lack of communication among the youth of Pakistan should be more concerning than the so called bridging the gap between Pakistan and her neighbors, as ‘charity begins at home’, isn’t it?

That is why I call it a martyrdom of ‘realization’; because the way I see it, there is yet to be an effort, not necessarily expected from the government but from the private sector, to bridge communicational and geographical differences within Pakistan. And this absence of realization is simply causing enough vacuum, which is being filled with something not healthy for Pakistan’s national unity. Also, what we see now is an increasing number of challenges from Sub-Nationalism in the Balochistan province.

My observation, after living in such an environment, is that the insurgency in Balochistan is not big enough to literally threaten an East Pakistan like consequence, which was due to our weaknesses both politically and militarily; but they are strong enough to keep the condition chaotic and anarchic in the entire province. There are three major elements of this insurgency; brainwashing campaigns, armed struggle, and sufficient funds to carry on that armed struggle. But I am going to speak about the mother of all problems – the brainwashing campaigns.

Effective Brainwashing Campaigns;

Both on the provincial and the national level; for example, other parts of the country are injected with the disinformation that the ongoing struggle is for their basic rights, as if there are enough rights in interior Sindh, Punjab, KPK and FATA; while on the provincial level, the brainwashing is extremely effective, where the masses are fed with the fairy tales of Pakistan’s occupation of Balochistan. Let me remind you that in Balochistan, they don’t even use the term “forceful annexation”, which is unfairly propagated on the national television screens of Pakistan, but rather, in the province it is even worse. This is carried out by various different methods; there are anti-Pakistan books, easily available in cities and districts of Balochistan, which support the enemy’s narration of history. The domestic newspapers and political seminars, by using the banner of Baloch Students Organization-Azad, are extremely lethal in manufacturing hardcore militants out of hatred for Pakistan.

Imagine, if you are convinced, since your birth that you are occupied, your land is snatched away and almost all the bad things that you view are due to this particular country, most likely, you won’t accept the slavery, would you? Same is the case with most of the people of Balochistan, who don’t have access to the Internet, who don’t have any alternate information which could convince them that Pakistan is their home.  It is such a pity for any country to not have the state’s narration of history; of course there is a more logical and authentic state narration about Balochistan’s history, but it is almost non-existent on the surface. Even those who are able to watch television channels find the same narration of the enemy being delivered by so called prominent journalists, and this keeps them intact to the anti-State version of history. See a few examples of these innocent young angels who are being indoctrinated with hatred for the state from a tender age.

This girl is holding a calendar, what they term as “Shuhada’s Calendar”, listed with the names of some famous anti-Pakistan BLA sympathizers. These Calendars are largely available in Quetta. Which country allows such anti-state material to be openly exposed to her population?

This is another example of the child brainwashing campaign, publically launched in 2006 by BSO-Azad, Chapter Khuzdar, where the Baloch separatists came to the conclusion that an active propaganda campaign must be launched to brainwash the minor children, in order to prepare a generation that is anti-Pakistan. This has met lots of success, not because of their propagative tools but simply because of the absence of any counter narrative. This is where I see that the awareness campaign in Balochistan is more important than anything else. It would be wrong to say that almost every child has been convinced to hate the country, because we still have an overwhelming majority of sane elements in Balochistan who are resisting this menace on their own, but they are surely waiting for the state to practically step in to stop these activities.

People who are being convinced by this horrifying propaganda are now seeing Balochistan as a country, not as a province. This is another challenge for the state – to break this perception and define ‘what a province is’. It has come to a point that even national political parties give a picture that Balochistan is a country and not a province; they don’t say it, but they simply go with the flow without contradicting the militant ideology whenever they hold any political seminar. They start with the slogans of Balochistan Zindabad, and they end it with the same slogan, without mentioning Pakistan anywhere, and I have personally seen the JUIF and the PPP do this a number of times. There comes a point when people are forced to think that maybe Pakistan has abandoned its own people, which is obviously not true, but the state has definitely become more insensitive and indifferent towards this grave issue.

The brainwashing campaign has many ingredients, such as the unemployment and inflation which are cashed in the militant struggle by the propagators. Other elements are; not enough education infrastructure, even the places where you have infrastructure are extremely poor, so that the militants start comparing it to the top level universities in Punjab and Karachi, hence, this comparison helps to fuel up more fire. All these elements that contribute to manufacture militants and hatred for the state are actually very little compared to the major element which I have previously discussed; and that is the very narration of history, which asserts that Pakistan has occupied Balochistan and that the Baloch identity is in trouble by associating it with Pakistani identity. This alone is enough for spawning the hate mongers.

Considering my personal experience, my observation of the situation and with all my research and knowledge I can say with complete confidence that this brainwashing campaign is more powerful than the armed struggle itself. Baloch nationalism, like any other nationalism, is fueled up with nationalistic mythologies consisting of extreme exaggeration of past rulers and warriors. You will be surprised to know that one of their usual propaganda to children is that one Baloch is equally powerful to 11 Pakistanis; and you will be more shocked to know that in their texts as well as verbal propagation, they even prohibit people to eat “daal” which they refer to as a Punjabi recipe, and I have personally witnessed it. In such a hateful environment that is designed by a bunch of sub-nationalists, it is shameful for all those Pakistani intellectuals who are not doing just enough to counter this home grown monster, which I see as a Frankenstein created by this senseless nationalism, which is in turn killing innocent people; because the way I see it, not even the Baloch are now safe from these ethnic militants.

Maula Bakhsh Baloch from National Party and Ghulam Mohammed Baloch from Baloch National Front Party are two huge examples of those who were killed by the same groups over petty disagreements. For now, it is irrelevant to discuss the destruction, as the monster is already created, and this monster is an ideology that is based on sub-nationalism and hatred and stands opposed to Pakistan’s ideology based on Islamic nationalism. For the victims of such brainwashing campaigns, Pakistan is just any other foreign country that has invaded their land; they are designed as secular in nature, because the intelligent propagators know that the only thing which undermines Pakistan’s existence and that can make the people see it entirely differently is the strange mixture of secular Marxism/Communism. It is important to know that many Baloch militants drive their inspiration from Communism.

How successful are these propagandists so far? The answer is simple; they are successful enough to peacefully carry out hate preaching, which transforms into violence later on. They are successful enough to undermine the entire country openly in public forums, including schools and colleges. Just see the shocking examples of their success.

They have successfully convinced a certain segment of people (not majority) that Pakistan is an alien country, and that their Baloch identity is contrary to Pakistani identity; for this they had, in the 1980s, designed a so called National Flag of Balochistan, which is now also the flag of the Balochistan government in exile. This move to launch a flag of their own to symbolize their struggle was a very significant move, but what was even more strange is the Indian involvement even in reshaping the Baloch nationalism. Let me remind you – India has not just aided the Baloch separatist militancy, but also had a part in shaping Baloch nationalism, by directing their stooges such as Khair Bakhsh Marri in the 70s and 80s. When Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front was gaining momentum in Kashmir – an indigenous Kashmiri party that seeks Kashmir’s independence from India based on Kashmiri nationalism; the Indians decided to discredit Pakistan with the help of their proxies in Balochistan, in order to distract her focus from Kashmir to her western border. Many RAW officials met Baloch separatist leaders in Afghanistan, and designed a flag for Balochistan People’s Liberation Front (BPLF) – a militant separatist organization of the 70s, headed by Khair Bakhsh Marri, and this flag resembles that of Maqbool Bhat’s JKLF of Kashmir. See the similarities.

Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front’sFlag (1977)

Balochistan People’s Liberation Front (1985)

This was an attempt by the Indians to distract Pakistan’s focus from Kashmir to its eastern borders, so that India continues her brutalities on the Kashmiris with maximum comfort; and the intention of such a flag was to gather all the disintegrated Baloch separatist groups under one umbrella of their cause.

The Role of India didn’t stop there. I noticed another strange similarity between the current BLA flag with the flag of the Popular Front of India, which consists of Muslims who were blamed by the Kerala state government, once in 2006, to spread communal hatred.

Flag of Popular Front of India

Flag of Balochistan Liberation Army

I do not know whether I should call it a coincidence or a part of Indian involvement, but there are many signs in the Baloch nationalist struggle which seem to be designed by Indians. Even their so called revolutionary songs consist of the lyrics of Indian revolutionary songs – produced for Bollywood movies themed on the colonial rule in the subcontinent – translated into Balochi language. I was surprised to witness many Azadi songs of Hindi movies being used in Baloch Students Organization Seminars.

These minor successes of Baloch separatists are enough to keep an anti-state environment alive, without any interruption from the state itself. No one is there to stop them, because if anyone dares to express his difference of opinion from these nationalist groups, he or she will no longer be alive after that. Many Balochs are victims of these nationalist groups.

Flags were just one chapter, which they have opened to symbolize their nationalism against Pakistan; the other chapter is the so called National Anthem of Balochistan. This is hilariously strange, that a cultural song sung by Yasmin Baloch from Sindh in the 80s would be adopted as a national anthem by a group of people, and that too without the consent of Yasmin Baloch. However, this beautiful cultural song – ma chuke balochani  (We are the sons of Baloch), that simply speaks about Baloch history and culture, is being misused against the Pakistani state, where nationalists are programing the children to oppose the Pakistan national anthem in order to sing their own.

All is not under the control of the Baloch separatist groups, despite the state’s indifference to their propaganda. There is still an overwhelming majority of Balochs who not only believe in Pakistan, but also know the difference between right and wrong. They are not secular as they are projected by the separatist leaders. Their entire family structure is based on Islamic principles. They just want the Pakistani state to step into Balochistan and counter the propaganda, to save their lives from these nationalistic bigots.

It is not difficult to win this war, but it is a question of political will. It is a question of spreading awareness; Pakistanis in particular need to participate and try to discredit senseless historical narrative, even if delivered by the likes of Hamid Mir, who reads a BSO-Azad pamphlet and shows up to deliver the speech on its history. We need to aggressively stop them because this is harmful; I retreat that this is not the war of rights, of course the sense of deprivation is there, but it is present everywhere in Pakistan. In Balochistan, it is the question of identity. People need to be convinced that there is a concept of the multi-cultural state. They need to be told that being a Pakistani doesn’t compromise their ethnic identity and culture. There is an aggressive campaign also on the social media, particularly by the Balochs from the Middle East and the Gulf states who are not accepted by the Arab society, and now they are shown this green grass of a free country of their own in South East Asia; so they are the major propagandists and even fund raisers for the terror outfits, simply because they are desperate for a separate identity.

All we need to do is to own the Baloch culture. Just keep this in your heart that you have to own the Baloch and Balochistan culturally; and the moment you do this, I promise you that the separatists will meet an immediate defeat. Their only weapon is to create a sense of alienation from the rest of Pakistan. Their weapon is to make the Baloch see Pakistan as a completely different country; imagine if the Pakistanis start singing patriotic national songs in Balochi; imagine if the Pakistanis promote Balochi traditional dresses and food in different parts of the country; imagine if the Pakistanis are able to convince them that being a Pakistani Baloch is very much possible; then I am very much sure that we will win this war and all these fake flags will be thrown down the drain.

Like I said in the beginning, the Balochs have inherited love for their cultural identity, and if the Pakistanis own it, then they, too, will be able to own the rest of the country. Otherwise, this brain poisoning will continue to breed violence and hatred for the state. The government may have abandoned them, but the people should not. Many journalists are playing the role of prostitutes by selling their integrity for some petty materialistic means, so don’t follow them. All we need for now is a strong state’s narrative of Balochistan’s history being aggressively propagated on every level, and to own all the cultures of our great country; secondly, to support the idea of using force against the separatists and propagandists; no state tolerates such a nonsense, then why should we? Combined efforts of the society and the military can eradicate them completely.

Is the rotten Pakistani Politics at daggers drawn?

Print Friendly and PDF

BrassTacks -- Pakistan’s National Security Analysis -- for those who are NOT deaf, dumb and blind!!

Taking advantage of the anarchy, chaos, confusion and weakest leadership in Pakistan, Indian tried to change the geography of the Line of Control on the Kashmir front. A short, fierce battle ensued but Indians failed and were pushed back though the environment in the area remains tense. For many months now, Indians have been focusing on supporting the insurgencies, TTP and BLA against Pakistan and had not been directly engaging Pakistan army on the eastern sector. This attempt by the Indians is a feeler to test the waters and the preparedness of Pak army. In the coming months, Indians will be conducting more on such probing attacks as the situation within Pakistan is expected to get more and more chaotic.

With the political anarchy spreading across the entire country, the levels of violence, terrorism, urban insurgency and chaos is also rising exponentially. This week also, we saw insane levels of violence in every corner of the country. There is definitely urgency within the insurgents to exploit the political and judicial anarchy.  Security forces are fighting back with all the resources in a war which is a high intensity conflict in an urban environment. From jet fighters to special operations by covert means, all axis of force is being deployed.

There is no doubt that the CIA backed TTP has been badly bruised and pushed back into Afghanistan after a long bloody slog by the Pakistan army. Now the insurgent group is weakened, isolated, dislocated and suing for peace to gain time to regroup. Signing any peace deals with the dreaded terrorist group when they are at their weakest would be a catastrophic military blunder and army is cautioning the government not to rush into any offer by the militants.

But the mission of Pakistan army has been made near to impossible by direct CIA involvement to destroy any pro-Pakistan assets in the region to fight the TTP. There is absolutely no doubt now that CIA is fighting Pakistan through the proxies of TTP and BLA and is actively eliminating all those tribals who sign peace deals with Pakistan or show their willingness to fight the TTP. This treacherous betrayal by the CIA is still NOT acknowledged at the official levels though everyone knows about it at all levels. The secretary defense Lt General Asif Yasin Malik had even mentioned this last week.

This week, CIA eliminated a strong pro-Pakistan local militant commander, Mullah Nazeer, who had earlier survived an assassinating attempt by the TTP. Once TTP failed, CIA sent in a drone to finish the job. In another attack, another pro-Pakistan commander belonging to Hafiz Gul Bahadur group was targeted and eliminated. It is actually that dirty war where CIA is directly fighting Pakistan but the government and the army leadership still remain silent.

*************

While the 4th and 5th generation wars rage within Pakistan, the politicians remain busy in petty squabbles, power grabbing, turf wars and preparing for elections, creating more and more anarchy every day. There is absolutely no concern for the national security, economic collapse or the political or ideological vision. It is a fish market with a bloody touch. MQM and the new entrant Dr. Tahir ul Qadri are threatening a “drone attack” on Pakistan within the next week and turning Islamabad into another Tehreer square.  The ruling PPP’s alliance with other parties is now in a chaos also with all other parties flexing their muscles and looking for best opportunities to grab more power and wealth. Downright dirty it is. Zardari is genuinely concerned now as the date of the “long march” approaches.

Meanwhile, the common citizens and the society suffer staggeringly as the government destroys the last remnants of the state and the economy. It is an artificially created crisis of gas to protect and “bless” the cartels in power to make windfall profits through imports of oil.

As the “last straw” on the camel’s back, the government plans to deploy 150,000 troops for election duties, drawing the already over stretched army from counter insurgency operations and defense of the country on the East. Drawing such a huge number of troops from the strategic reserves or from the active duty troops would mean depleting the national defense to dangerous levels. For now, Pakistan army is going along the PPP regime’s plans but in our assessment this is a fatal mistake which will have staggeringly high cost later on.

The next two weeks would be very critical and decisive in the country. On January 14th, “tehreer square” styled sit-in is planned in Islamabad by “millions” of followers of Altaf Hussian and Tahir ul Qadri – the gangster and the priest have joined hands in a most bizarre alliance which is threatening not just the remains of the government but also the entire decayed political system!

If the march goes ahead, then the field would be open for all forces to intervene. The terrorists would have the sitting ducks to target. The government would deploy its resources to stop the marchers from reaching the parliament. Army would watch in silence with troops ready close by for any intervention if needed.

We would advice no traveling even within Islamabad after 12th January. The game is wide open now but the government and the judiciary as well as the media and the army remain focused on the elections for now or the spoilers who have come from outside to change the rules of the game. The national security and the 4th and 5th generation war is definitely not the priority of any of the power brokers for now. That is the real tragedy.

Akhtar Mengal - Latest stooge of CIA/RAW

Print Friendly and PDF

After passing years of self-imposed exile in London, President of the Balochistan National Party (BNA), Sardar Akhtar Jan Mengal who returned to Pakistan has external and internal connections with the anti-state elements of the country. During the hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan in relation to the case of missing persons and deteriorating law and order situation in the province of Balochistan on September 27, Sardar Akhtar Mengal distorted the facts in his statement, while adding similar allegations against the security agencies of the country, which have continuously been leveling by the anti-Pakistan elements.

Giving a six-point solution to the Balochistan issue, Sardar Akhtar Mengal suggested to the Supreme Court that all death squads operating under the supervision of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) or Military Intelligence (MI) in the province should be disbanded. He said that all missing persons which are under the custody of intelligence agencies should be produced before a court of law, and Baloch political parties should be allowed to resume their political activities without any interference from these agencies. Mengal explained that those responsible for torture, killing and dumping of bodies of Baloch political leaders and activists should be brought to justice. He further stated that military operation should be stopped in the province and measures should be taken for the displaced Balochis.

The federal government and the armed forces in a joint statement to the Supreme Court on September 28 rejected assertions of Baloch leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, saying armed forces are neither conducting any military operation in Balochistan nor are there any death squads of intelligences agencies. The statement clearly mentioned that no missing person is in the custody of the secret agencies and every political party in Balochistan is free to work. Notably, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has also expressed similar views in his latest statement.

In fact, we can not see baseless accusations of Akhtar Mengal as mentioned in his six-point solution of Balochistan situation in isolation because these are part of a deliberate propaganda which has been accelerated by the foreign-based NGOs, human rights groups and media. With the secret support of American CIA, Indian RAW and Israeli Mosssad which are well-penetrated in these external entities and Pakistani media are being used to implicate Pak Army and ISI including Frontier Corps (FC) regarding the human rights violations and disappeared persons.

In this regard, with the help of Baloch separatist leaders who have taken refuge in western countries, these hostile entities are perennially launching false campaign about human rights violations in Balochistan to obtain the secret strategic designs of US, India and Israel. In this respect, on February 8, 2012, the hearing of the US Congress Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Dana Rohrabacher discussed target killings and human rights violations in Balochistan, blaming Pakistan Army and country’s intelligence agencies for extra-judicial killings. He also favoured an independent Balochistan. Earlier Dana Rohrabacher arranged a meeting in which Baloch separatist leaders participated along with the anti-Pakistan NGOs.

On July 31, 2011, a rally was organised by Baloch Human Rights Council in UK in front of the US Embassy in London, which raised false allegations such as inhuman torture and extrajudicial murder of the Baloch intellectuals by the Pakistan’s security agencies. Besides, a demonstration was held outside the United Nations in Genva on the occasion of the 19th Session of UN Human Rights Council to condemn the human rights violations in Balochistan. The demonstrators accused the Pakistan’s security and intelligence agencies of extrajudicial killings. Apperently, the demonstration was organised and led by Mehran Baloch, Balochistan’s representative at the United Nations and Noordin Mengal, but in fact, it was arranged by anti-Pakistan NGOs, human rights groups and Indo-Israeli and American lobbies.

On all these occasions, Sardar Akhtar Mengal who is speaking in the tone of these foreign elements, played a key role secretly. It shows his covert liaison with US high officials and CIA. Recently, the United Nations Working Group on Enforced Disappearances visited Pakistan in connection with the missing persons, especially focusing on the Province of Balochistan. In this context, during hearing, the Supreme Court has questioned on September 19, this year that when the case of missing persons is subjudice as to why the UN delegation has been invited to Pakistan.

The delegation of the UN Working Group also held meetings with the leaders of various nationalist parities to know about human rights violations and situation of missing persons, particularly of Balochistan. As the UN is under the influence of the US-led major countries, so it also raised similar allegations against Pakistan’s security agencies.

Particularly, Chief Justice of Supreme Court, Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is taking personal interest about the missing persons and law and order situation of Balochistan. And impressed by the foreign elements in this respect, Pakistan’s political parties and media have also been following the blame game of the US-led entities. By taking note of these phenomena, US and other anti-Pakistan elements decided to send Sardar Akhtar Mengal to Pakistan so that the aggravated situation of the province could further be internationalised.

Regrettably, Nawaz Sharif, leader of (PML-N), Syed Munawar Hasan, Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami and Chairman Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf who have met Akhtar Mengal encouraged him in maligning country’s key security institutes in order to increase their vote bank at the cost of Pakistan’s integrity. Akhtar Mengal also seeks to take the place of Nawab Akbar Bugti by manipulating the circumstances of Balochistan.

Besides some other political figures, Akhtar Mengal also met media anchors who helped him in providing false information to misguide the general masses about the situation of Balochistan through TV channels. In fact, some of our electronic media anchors and journalists are working on the payroll of the foreign elements and thus they are creating misperceptions about Balochistan.
Reliable reports suggest that these media commentators and Baloch separatist elements including Sardar Akhtar Mengal have intermittently been invited by the US officials and participated in their secret meetings in Pakistan so as to intensify propaganda against Balochistan as part of conspiracy against the country.

Pakistan’s internal elements, especially political parties should know that the reality behind the worsening circumstances and the missing people of Balochistan is that secret agencies like CIA, RAW and Mossad which have well-established their collective network in Afghanistan are in collusion, and have perennial been supporting bomb blasts, suicide attacks, abductions, target killings, ethnic and sectarian violence in Balochistan through their affiliated militant groups such as Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Jundollah (God’s soldiers), Balochistan National Party led by Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other Baloch feudal lords (Sardars) to dismember Pakistan and Iran.

These foreign-backed insurgent groups are responsible for target killings of Punjabis, Pushtuns, people of Hazara community and patriot Balochis including Pakistani and Iranian Shias. Their subversive activities have resulted in missing persons in Balochistan. In this connection, Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik disclosed in his recent statements that he also showed proof about training camps being run in Afghanistan, and supply of arms and ammunition by the Afghan government inside Balochistan. Malik explained that separatist outfits have owned 299 terror attacks in the province in which more than 170 personnel of the FC were martyred.

Nevertheless, all these foreign-backed subversive activities indicate that situation of Balochistan cannot be improved so easily, that is why, Baloch leader Akhtar Mengal has recommended separation of the province, if his six points were not going to be implemented. These are also his pre-conditions to have dialogue with the government. In the past, he has rejected a number of offers, presented by the government to have peace talks to improve the deteriorated law and order situation of Balochistan.

Nonetheless, external and internal connections of Sardar Akhtar Mengal will further aggravate the problems of a majority of Balochis who do not want independence of Balochistan.

"Bugti committed Suicide", BrassTacks moves SC against SAFMA Swines

Print Friendly and PDF

The Supreme Court has been approached to appoint a high-level judicial inquiry to probe into the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti with the petitioner insisting that the Baloch leader had committed suicide but his unfortunate demise has been exploited by foreign agencies through the separatist elements to destabilise Pakistan. The petitioner in this case is Syed Zaid Hamid, who is represented through his counsel Raja Muhammad Irshad. Boththe petitioner and the counsel are generally known for their connections with the Pakistani establishment thus giving the impression as if they have been encouraged by military/ISI to get the issue of Bugti’s murder probed through an independent judicial inquiry commission.

Raja Irshad when approached said that though he has been representing the ISI and FC in different cases in various courts, in this particular case his services have been hired by the Zaid Hamid’s think tank - Brasstracks. The petition, according to Raja Irshad, submitted before the apex court a week back seeks from the apex court to order a judicial inquiry through serving or retired judges of the Supreme Court to reach the real author of this crime as “the unfortunate death of late Nawab Akbar Bugti has provided fuel to those playing in the hands of foreign agencies out to destabilise Pakistan in general and the province of Balochistan in particular to achieve their global designs”.

The respondents in the petition are DG ISI, DG MI, Mian Nawaz Sharif, General (R) Pervez Musharraf, Shaukat Aziz, the then Balochistan governor Owais Ghani, ex-chief minister Jam Yousaf Khan, former interior minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, ministries of interior and law, Jamil Bugti, Ahmadan Khan Bugti, Talal Bugti and Tariq Bugti.

The petitioner contends that a team of five special forces commandos were invited by late Bugti into his hiding cave to settle terms of surrender but once the officers entered the cave, he triggered an explosive device which brought down the entire cave, killing Bugti and the SSG men. “He committed suicide and also murdered the army officers,” the petition reads.

The petition added that Bugti had desired to meet the army officers in the cave before he could hand over his custody to the law enforcement agencies. There was no doubt, it is said, that the late Nawab was going to be lodged in a room especially arranged for him in the Governor’s House in Quetta. The petition insisted that the latest insurgency in Balochistan has been ignited by a massive anti-state propaganda campaign that the Pakistan army and the state killed late Bugti in a well-planned conspiracy to eliminate the Baloch demands for rights.

“The judicial system of the country is also being exploited by the separatist sympathisers to attack and destroy the state of Pakistan through diabolic propaganda. The political parties in Pakistan like PML-N are also exploiting the situation to settle their personal score with former President Musharraf without looking into the facts of the case; hence are supporting the hostile and separatists’ propaganda and thus fuelling rebellion and insurgency,” the petition said.

The petition also said that the present MNA and cousin of late Nawab Mir Ahmadaan Bugti openly acknowledged that Bugti had committed suicide and had also murdered the army officers. “Every member of the Bugti clan knows this,” the petition added. Referring to a story published by a Lahore-based English language newspaper the petition said the newspaper, run by a close friend of Nawab Bugti, reported that Bugti had refused to give himself up and had committed suicide.

But his death, it is said, is exploited by hostile and anti-state elements to launch propaganda war to prove late Bugti a victim of state terrorism and a deliberate conspiracy of murder.

The petition said that the family of Nawab Bugti has now started to exploit the judicial system of the state to launch a murder case against former president (Musharraf), former governor and former interior minister. “This is not just massive distortion of facts and gross violation of fundamental rights but also initiating a fake case to implicate innocent men. It is also dangerous for the state and the nation as the judicial system is being exploited to establish that the state of Pakistan was involved in the deliberate murder of late Nawb Akbar Bugti which, of course, is opposed to facts on ground.”

“In reality he had committed a rebellion, waged a war against the state and his own tribe and when cornered, he committed suicide while also murdered five army personnel, but these facts have never been reported by the media, never taken up by the courts and the separatists are fully exploiting lies, deceptions and propaganda in the environment to wage a war against the state of Pakistan, against the army and against the former members of the government in dangerous times.”

The petition prayed: “That the factum of death of late Nawab Akbar Bugti is shrouded in mystery which has triggered militants, insurgency and fuelled the feelings of separatists. It is a matter of cardinal and paramount importance and eminently required the intervention of this honourable court of ultimate jurisdiction as a guardian of Constitution of Pakistan. The entire nation looks up to the apex court as a beacon of light to shake off despondency and acute insecurity in the minds of highly aggrieved and panic-stricken people of Pakistan.”

Wiser approach needed for Balochistan

Print Friendly and PDF

In 1948, while addressing Quetta Municipality, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah said that, “you know, I take special interest in Balochistan because, this province is my special responsibility, therefore I want that it should play its role in Pakistan affairs like other provinces.”

Unfortunately, this great leader died in the same year and his vision could not be implemented. Area wise, it is half of Pakistan, but forming 5% of the total population. The leadership, following the Quaid, did not pay worthwhile attention towards the affairs of the province, thus there remained deterioration of the situation with each passing day. There have been grievances of the locals, turned into insurgencies and rebellions in the province, but use of force was considered the only option to quell all, rather addressing the causes.

The successive governments and their functionaries have been dealing with the Baloch issue without consulting the real stakeholders, the people and national acumen. Generally, governments have their own way of doing the things with vested political interests and priorities as per their conveniences’. On the issue of Balochistan, traditionally, there has been single handed and bureaucratic approach adopted by successive governments to resolve the issue without knowing its dynamics. Indeed, there have been no worthwhile efforts at national or provincial level to resolve this complicated issue.

It is very encouraging that the literate class of Pakistan has finally realized the significance of national issues and started organizing debate and conference to resolve them. In this connection, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) organized a national conference on Balochistan on May 26, 2012. SCBA had invited the leadership from all political and religious parties in this national conference. In the conference, entitled, “Balochistan Issue and its Resolution,” the participants of the conference called for “taking on board all segments in the province over all policies and development projects, besides, redressing their genuine demands.”

Indeed, there is a need for the national mobilization to understand and address the national issues of Pakistan in the best national interests of the state of Pakistan. Political parties have their own agendas and evaluate the issues from their own particular perspective. Generally, there is a point scoring and relegation of the other party’s viewpoint. There remains a clear difference between what is said in the meetings and conferences and how the implementation takes place. Therefore, there is requirement for the dedication, clarity of the objectives and over and above the sincerity to resolve the issues, leaving behind the personnel or political party agendas.

At the conclusion, the conference adopted a fifteen-point resolution, demanding an end to the deprivations of the Baloch people and asking for an end to the military operations from the province. Whereas, various leaders from political and religious parties gave their own viewpoints for the resolution of Balochistan, Dr Abdul Malik, President of the National Party stressed the need for granting rights to the Baloch people. He said that, “Balochistan is an integral part of Pakistan and we have to find out solution by dialogue with all the stakeholders. This indeed was the most important aspect of the Balochistan issue, highlighted by a nationalist Baloch.

Between the lines, Dr Abdul Malik, has stressed the need for understanding the Baloch issue realistically, rather making political statements. His wordings were loud and absolutely clear. It is a fact that, in the entire history of Pakistan, Baloch people have never been given their basic rights. They are just the Baloch and have been used as tools both by national and provincial leaders. They have been deprived of basic necessities of life. They are Baloch and they are Pakistani, so must be given what the constitution of Pakistan has authorized to grant them.

Indeed, as practised during the British era, in the tribal society of Balochistan, the sardars acted as agents of the British crown and kept the people under suppression and oppression. They did not allow the basic right to the locals. The locals became habitual of this pattern of living. They even continued these repressive policies after the decolonization and independence. Whenever, an attempt was made to curtail the powers of sardars, they would rebel and tried to violate against the federation of Pakistan by mobilizing the suppressed Baloch community.

The poor people of Balochistan would not know, as to why they have been asked to take arms for fighting, except that, it is the order of Sardars. It is generation after generation that such a practice is continuing in the Baloch dominated areas of Balochistan province. Today in the rural Balochistan, there are no basic civic facilities for the common Baloch. School and colleges are scant, resultantly; the youth of the province is deprived of the basic education, a necessity for an award society. There is a lack of hospitals and medical centers in the province; therefore, treatment of the people once they fell ill has been a real issue.

These deprivations are not accidental, but deliberate and planned. After all, all areas of the province have elected representatives, and in case of Baloch MPs, over 90% are ministers too. Then there are senators, MNAs, and Federal Ministers from the Balochistan, all have some responsibilities towards their people and areas. Generally, there has been no dearth of the funds, issued for the province, particularly in last two decades. Then, there was no reason that local development in Balochistan could have been compromised. It was bunch of same sky rocketing politicians, who were making hue and cry in the conference, without questioning, as who is responsible for this backwardness of the people of Balochistan.

Some of the participants of the conference targeted the law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies. The most critical were; PML (N) leader, Main Nawaz Sharif and Asma Jehangir, the former President of SCBA. Both made provocative statements and Main Nawaz went ahead by saying that, Baloch has the right to rebel. He said, “The Baloch have a right to rebel why shouldn’t they, after all that they have been put through?” The statement indeed, depicts the originator as an obtuse personality, who can do anything for his cheap popularity.

Promoting and encouraging violence and rebellion is a felony in itself. Should a leader with national stature do it, is a big question mark? Accusing intelligence agencies and LEAs in Pakistan is the easiest thing. Even a common man on the streets would do it quite conveniently. It has become a fashion for people like Hamid Mir, Asma Jehangir and Mian Sahib to criticise the institutions. No one questions these people’s credibility of these accusations and their linkages elsewhere. After all BAL Thackeray, RAW and CIA has no love with Pakistan, who have linkages with people in Pakistan to promote their cause.

As a matter of fact, it has become rhetoric in Pakistan, that ‘agencies are doing this and that’. Nevertheless, no fact-finding body has been designated by the Governments; federal and provincial to know the real hands behind all these acts of killings and disappearances. After all someone should think, who is the real beneficiary of the Baloch killings and disappearances? What advantage intelligence agencies and FC or any other LEA would get from these acts. On the one hand, some leaders, so-called human rights activists and media persons, otherwise quite generously following the global format (script), should not know the global agenda.

Being at the crossroads of the history, we must revisit the Quaid’s vision about the Province and reassess the issue through a nationalistic approach, leaving behind the personnel agendas. We must leave behind the politics of accusations and adopt a new approach’ the people centric approach to resolve the issue. The foremost requirement would be to know, who is doing this all to destabilize Pakistan. Then, there is an immediate need to provide basic facilities to the deprived people of the Balochistan. To start with, basic health and education facilities should get preference.

Enemies of Pakistan assassinate BNP leader Jumma Khan along with 4 companions

Print Friendly and PDF

Balochistan National Party (Mengal) (BNP) leader Jumma Khan Raisani was assassinated along with four aides near Khuzdar district of Balochistan on Friday. Sources said that Raisani was on his way on a vehicle along with four aides when unknown armed men opened indiscriminate firing in Gazgi area of Khuzdar.

The deceased were shifted to nearby hospital for autopsy. Panic gripped parts of volatile Balochistan province after the incident. The BNP has announced a five-day mourning against the killing of Jumma Khan and his companions. Analysts are of the opinion that the same forces who are fueling the separatist movements inside this part of Pakistan could be behind this attack which includes MI6 backed BLA or the CIA itself. Some analysts believe that India could also be involved behind this heinous crime since the aim of all three of these entities is the same i.e., to fuel foreign funded separatist movement in the province. The aim of this attack is to merely put more pressure on Pakistan Army which is already under much pressure as the stooge regime in Islamabad seems to be deaf by birth regarding the Balochistan peace issue and presence of foreign mercenaries inside the country. Sources said that this could further worsen Pakistan's relationship with United States of Zionism if one way or the other, any links are found between this assassination to CIA or India.

There are reliable reports that British intelligence agencies are turning a blind eye or rather give “tacit support” to Baloch and Sindh elements directly connected with terrorists inside Pakistan. These reports indicate that the anti-Pakistan Baloch elements are in direct contacts with so called BLA and Lashkar-e-Balochistan militant groups. These elements are freely contacting American, Indian and British diplomats in London and have been regularly organizing anti-Pakistan campaign since 2010. The newly formed Lashkar-e-Balochistan has carried out recent attacks at Karachi Airport and in Malir (Army base). The Lashkar-e-Balochistan killed people in Naval colony in Karachi last month. Lashkar-e-Balochistan is an off-shoot of so called Balochistan Liberation Army which is known for its contacts with RAW and foreign military personnel inside Afghanistan. It was Lashkar-e-Balochistan which issued a warning to oil, gas companies to quit Balochistan and attacked people of Gwadar Port killing more than a dozen workers.

British Secret Service HQ, London.
The Baloch militants are running training camps near Spin Boldak (Inside Afghanistan). They are reported to be sending terrorists with sophisticated weapons and mines to Pakistan. Their main targets are Pakistan Army and communication networks. Pakistanis have noted increased activities of BLA and LeB activities in London including meetings with British officials as well as American and Indian diplomats. Only a few days back, on March 28th, 2011 a group of anti-Pakistan Baloch and Sindhi elements gathered in front of USZ embassy in London and demanded foreign intervention in Balochistan. The demonstration was apparently organized by the so called Baloch Human Rights Council (UK), the world Sindhi Congress and Balochistan Liberation Organization in collaboration with Baloch Raaje Zroumbesh, Balochistan Peoples Party and Balochistan United Front. Irrefutable evidence clearly tells that Baloch militants are using front groups to mould public opinion, mobilize contacts with western governments and raise funds for terrorist actions against Pakistan Army. At the demonstration, the speakers included Dr. Abdul Doshoki, Dr. Lakhu Luhana, Waja Rahim Bandvoi, Waja Abdullah Seyahoi, Mansoor Baloch, Hassan Hamdam and Samad Baloch. Samad Baloch is General Secretary of Baloch Human Rights Council (UK).
