Pakistani Media "Prostitutes", “Mediagate” and Treason

I believe it was the early 2000’s when we first heard of free media in Pakistan. The credit went to the then President, Mr. Musharraf who liberalized the industry. Ironically the same media played a humungous role in his own down fall.

Back then there was a kind of jubilation and everybody felt very lucky. Pakistanis now had a new and very potent platform to express their views and project themselves, especially to face the ever-growing Indian media clout in Pakistan. I remember thinking that this was a giant leap for Pakistan. No doubt we were late to step into this arena but we were finally there! 
I don’t know if anyone of you saw the documentary on Geo about life in Karachi where they took the camera to a beach party. Liberal was an understatement . On the other hand we also had the Aalim’s and naat khwaan’s getting their gig’s on air. It was pretty balanced and our media was thriving. 

But like everything else in Pakistan, what seems too good to be true usually is! It’s the simple case of power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. That’s what happened to our media, especially the journalists. As soon as they realized that they had now become opinion makers and could influence anything under the Pakistani sun, they began taking things a bit too far.

Remember the CIA Hosted Drink and Dance Party For Pakistani Journalists at US Embassy Islamabad? Harmless on the face of it right? But when you think about the clout that the CIA could then have over these journalists the fog begins to clear and the actual picture forms. Then you have the infamous Aalim Online scandal. I personally loved that video. The guy has a knack for abusing. The flow, the sentence structuring and the delivery was superb! Bravo!

And finally now you have the oh-so-recent “Mediagate” scandal. This scandal disgusts me to the core, even more than political scandals. Unlike politicians these are the very people that we love and follow and they stab us in the back!

A lot of people must have been thinking…’Yaaaawn! Another one of those scandals, give it two days to die down‘. But the fact of the matter is that this one is more dangerous than any other scandal. Scams for money hurt our economy and pocket, but these people affect our minds. I would go as far as to say that this should be a kind of treason. Don’t think so? Tell me this, when the memo was written to America to stop a coup what was that? Treason, right? Then how about a person who manipulates people’s minds on the order of anti-state elements or criminals that work against the system. I say treason! There is no way to know it’s happening or even stop it. 

Just think about it. What’s stopping journalists taking dictation from say the Taliban, America, RAW, or Mossad? Nothing at all, if all they want is money. Some of you might be saying ‘But doesn’t this happen in developed nations too? Aren’t news channels like CNN or Fox biased?‘ Yes they are, but they are also held accountable for crossing the line. Remember News of the World anyone?? Compare that with Pakistan. Meher bukhari still has her show, so does Kamran khan and Hamid Mir and I’m ready to bet that soon Mr. Mubashir will be back on another channel, with a brand new show.

I don’t know about you people but I for one won’t believe a word these journalists say….ever!

Siachen: Buried soldiers declared as Martyrs by Pakistan Army

Pakistan Army said that given the improbability of recovering anyone alive, and after consulting religious leaders, "it has been decided to declare the remaining brave soldiers as  "shuhada"  (martyrs) to try to reduce the families suffering. "This is being done with mixed feelings of pride, grief and above all unflinching resolve to continue all out efforts to recover the bodies of all shuhada," the military said in a statement posted on its website on Tuesday.

A huge wall of snow crashed into the remote Siachen Glacier base high in the mountains in disputed region in the early hours of April 7, smothering an area of one square kilometre (a third of a square mile). Only three bodies have so far been recovered from the remote glacier, dubbed the world s highest battleground, despite desperate rescue efforts assisted by foreign teams. Rescuers have dug tunnels into the mass of snow and ice that hit the battalion headquarters of the 6th Northern Light Infantry to try to recover the bodies of 129 soldiers and 11 civilians at the Gayari camp.

The site is 4,000 metres (13,000 feet) up in the mountains, just below the glacier where Pakistani and Indian troops have faced off since the 1980s.

General Kayani warns of Indian Bastardization on Siachen

GAYARI: COAS Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said India has toughened its stance on the Siachen issue. Talking to reporters on Thursday during his third visit to the Gayari Sector to review the rescue and search operation at the site of avalanche, the army chief said India had toughened its stance on Siachen as that of 1989. He said India had been demanding approval of the Line of Control but now it had startedasking for re-determination of positions. "It takes two hands to clap", he added. Earlier, he was briefed about the progress of the ongoing work, including the efforts to create a water course to safely drain the lake formed by blocking of Gayari River by the avalanche.

According to a statement issued by the ISPR, the media wing of the army, the satellite data link also became operational on Thursday, which would allow real time video monitoring of relief work from the GHQ. Gen Kayani remained with the troops for some time and lauded their motivation in the face of tough conditions and extreme weather. He appreciated their resolve to maintain the army's proud tradition of not leaving a man behind, until humanly impossible, regardless of cost. The COAS was also accompanied by Rawalpindi corps commander and a media team, invited to witness firsthand the ongoing activities at the disaster site.

Mubasher Lucman vs Hamid Mir - PART 2

Most of the conversation I'm presenting today happened on 23rd April 2012.

Here is a snapshot of the poll you will find on the right hand side of my blog. So far this is the result. But please do caste your vote once you are done reading this post. 

The messages exchanged on 24th April were very interesting. You are about to see some very serious yet interesting stuff. In my opinion this part 2 is far more fascinating than the part 1 and reveals something really big as is going down between journalists. Before I jump on Mubasher Lucman and Hamid Mir, I missed a very interesting tweet from part 1 between Sheikh Rashid and Hamid Mir.

Most of you might think Sheikh Rashid can't be on twitter but surprisingly , he is and even more interestingly someone forwarded this message of Hamid Mir to Sheikh Rashid and guess what, he even replied saying what Hamid Mir claimed is not true. Here is his tweet.

I'm not sure If Hamid Mir responded to Sheikh Rashid's footage tweet or he just posted another tweet saying I can air the clip in which Imran Khan attacked Musharraf and Sheikh Rashid just walked out from my show in protest! Here is his tweet.

Sheikh Rashid also posted the same links that Mubasher Lucman posted yesterday. Please click here to see those links. I posted it on my previous blog. After posting multiple links I don't think there was any conversation between Hamid Mir and Sheikh Rashid.

Now lets get back to the main topic. Mubasher Lucman VS Hamid Mir. This is the first tweet, where Hamid Mir claims clearly that he did take interview of OBL and he didn't fool anyone.

Mubasher Lucman also posted some other very interesting posts but before I start with Mubasher let me show you a post from Dr. Shahid Masood. This is my own assumption and I may be wrong here but I think Dr. Shahid is referring to Hamid Mir here as he did a lot of shows on missing persons but has largely ignored the Karachi law and order situation where 100s of people have been killed.

Shaheen Sehbai, Cafe Pyala & Hussain Haqqani:

In my first post, Shaeen Sehbai (The News International Group Editor) supported Mubasher Lucman regarding Hamid Mir. See the tweet below:
