Memogate: Hussain Haqqani summoned on 15th March

ISLAMABAD - A day after Mansoor Ijaz told the judicial commission, probing the circumstances leading to memogate controversy, that he was done with recording his statement, the panel on Friday asked Pakistan former Ambassador to USZ Husain Haqqani to appear before the commission. The judicial commission resumed hearing a day after Mansoor Ijaz recorded his statement through video link from London and asked the authorities concerned to submit record of telephone bills of the former ambassador. Following the revelation of the business tycoon and the central figure in the memogate scandal, Mansoor Ijaz, that President Asif Ali Zardari was aware of the OBL circus on May 2, 2011, analysts were under the impression that next hearing of judicial commission would be of great importance.

Following a short session of proceedings at the Islamabad High Court, the head of the commission, Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, directed the attorney general to ensure that the government would submit the telephone bills of Haqqani’s official cell phone connection before the next hearing on March 15. The commission also directed Mansoor Ijaz to appear before the commission on the same date at 9 am via video link from the Pakistani High Commission in London. Earlier, Ijaz told the commission that there was a real threat of a military coup in Pakistan following the Abbottabad raid, adding that he decided to forward the memo to General James Jones after that. Ijaz agreed to provide all the details about of the meetings between General Kayani and President Zardari after the May 2 raid. Mansoor Ijaz, an American businessman of Pakistani origin once again accused Hussain Haqqani for not cooperating with the commission by not providing his blackberry cell and its pin codes.
