IG FC turns down UN intruding gang yet again!

Islamabad: Inspector General (IG) of Frontier Corps (FC) Major General Obaidullah Khan Khattak will not be able to meet the UN intruding Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances when the team visits Quetta on September 15, a highly-placed source told. According to sources, the UN intruding group had expressed its desperate desire to meet Khattak to discuss the issue of missing persons in Balochistan, despite Pakistan's Chief Justice's refusal to meeting to the intervening gang of the UN.

An official in the FC media department, Murtaza Baig, told that the IG FC would be unavailable to the UN team as he would be ‘busy’ with relief operations in the flood-affected areas of the province. Another official in the Balochistan government said Khattak was not obligated to meet the UN team since the working group was not mandated to conduct an investigation on the issue of enforced disappearance.

Former president of Balochistan High Court Bar Association Advocate Shakil Hadi also refused to arrange a meeting with the UN working group. Hadi, who is the legal counsel of Nawabzada Jamil Bugti, son of Nawab Akbar Bugti, told  that he considered the UN team’s visit to Pakistan as interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan, adding that the list of missing persons was highly misleading.

“I personally know that many persons who have gone underground were also being treated as missing persons,” Hadi said.

Post Script: It should be critically noted that the figure of missing persons all across the globe is far higher than that of Pakistan (which is undoubtedly an exaggerated figure). In areas like Kashmir, Palestine, Afghanistan and so many areas of India have a far greater number of people missing from their homes but interestingly the very sympathetic UN did NOT take any trouble to console the grieved families and search for their lost ones. The questions arises WHY is the UN so much concerned about the internal affairs of Pakistan? Or is it only paving a way for Libya/Syria type intervention with gradual and subsequent lame excuses? Later when the UN feels more and more excruciating pain for the grieved families, it would break into Pakistani soil with the consoling and sympathetic NATO forces for the "greater" interest of Pakistanis and humanity at large and thus the last and grand final phase of 4th GW would be deployed happily ever after!

IG Frontier Corps Major General Obaidullah Khan

Frontier Corps Inspector General Maj Gen Obaidullah Khan has said extraordinary measures have been taken to repulse any aggression at the borders along Afghanistan.

“After the NATO attack on Pakistani post in Mohmand, the FC has reviewed security at border areas and the troops are ready to respond to any aggression”, he said.

He said 262 NATO vehicles were stranded in different parts of Balochistan after the supplies to allied forces were halted. Following the attack on NATO vehicles in Quetta, it has been decided to send back NATO vehicles to Karachi, he said, adding that the attacks on NATO vehicles were tarnishing the image of the country.

About law and order, he said that the FC was making all-out efforts to restore peace to the province by crushing the anti-Pakistan, Indian funded elements. Laying stress on dialogue to resolve the Balochistan issue, Maj Gen Obaidullah said the issue was political and it should be resolved through political means if the Political administration show some interest to work on the real issues.

He condemned the killing of 14 FC personnel, including a Major, in Mushakhel district, saying that the FC personnel were performing security duty in the area when they were targeted. He vowed to bring culprits to book.

About the recovery of decomposed bodies, he said that this is just a propaganda campaign by our enemies to damage the repute of FC by alleging them of abducting people and killing them, these are done none other but the anti-Pakistan elements. He also said that the hue and cry of Human Rights activists and media over the missing persons is baseless and 99% of the people gone missing are working for Militant organizations. The inspector general stressed that the media should also highlight the killing of security personnel by militants.

He said recruitment quota for Baloch people in FC had been increased to 20 per cent and the FC was running 33 schools and colleges in different parts of the province to impart education to the people.

He said the FC was deployed in different parts of the province on the requisition of the provincial government and added that over past six months, the FC was not being issued allowance by the provincial government. He appealed to the people of Balochistan to come forward and play their role in maintaining peace across the province.

To a question, he said foreign elements were involved in the suicide attack on FC DIG’s convoy.

Referring to the recent statement of Nawabzada Bramdagh Bugti wherein he had disassociated himself from armed struggle in Balochistan, the FC inspector general said that Bramdagh Bugti issued the remarks on the directives of some quarters so that he could get political asylum in some Western country as the situation in Afghanistan is not suitable for anymore and he has no hold here in Balochistan after the measures taken by FC.
