China, Japan and USZ Expanding Missile Interceptor Technology as Tensions Rise in Northeast Asia

Print Friendly and PDF

With North Korea declaring its intention to push ahead with a third nuclear test following the United Nations Security Council resolution on its launch of a long-range rocket, it seems hardly a coincidence that the US, China, and Japan have launched their own interceptor missiles and spy satellites. As the intensity of the North Korean nuclear crisis soars and the strategic competition between the US and China, and between China and Japan, heats up in the Asia-Pacific region, military tensions are on the rise in Northeast Asia.

On Jan. 26 (local time), the US Defense Department announced that it had succeeded in a test of a missile defense system that can intercept intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) that are aimed at the continental US while they are still outside the atmosphere. This test is part of a project that is being conducted to defend the continental US from the ICBM threat posed by North Korea and Iran.

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA), a section of the US Defense Department, said, “We were successful in our launch of a three-stage ground-based interceptor (GBI) from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.”

The test was conducted as part of the development of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD). A ballistic missile’s trajectory is divided into the launch phase, a middle phase when it is in outer space beyond the atmosphere, and a final phase where it enters the atmosphere once again. GMD refers to intercepting a ballistic missile in this middle phase.

“We didn’t launch a real missile to serve as a target for the interceptor,” the MDA said. “However, if such a target missile had existed, the Exoatmospheric Kill Vehicle (EKV) that was attached to the interceptor rocket would have collided with the target and destroyed it.

During a test launch by the MDA in Dec. 2010, the EKV failed to intercept the target. This test involved actually launching a target object and attempting to destroy it. The most recent test took place after correcting the flaws in the guided missile technology that became apparent in the former test.

China also succeeded in a test launch of a ground-based mid-range interceptor missile conducted inside its own territory on Jan. 27, the country’s news agency Xinhua reported on Jan. 28, quoting a Defense Ministry official. “The test launch achieved the goals that we had set. The test was defensive in nature and was not targeted at any country,” the official emphasized.

This is the second time that China has officially announced that it has conducted an interceptor missile test. On Jan. 11, 2010, China said that it had successfully completed the test of a mid-range interceptor missile. At the time, the US press saw this as China’s response to the US Defense Department’s decision to permit sales of the MIM-104 Patriot interceptor missiles to Taiwan.

The interceptor test is a response to US moves to establish a missile defense perimeter in East Asia, suggested Song Zhongping, who served as an instructor with China’s Second Artillery Force, the strategic missile unit of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA).

“If the US does not accelerate its movements to establish a strategic missile defense system in the East Asia and Pacific region, and if it doesn’t upset the strategic balance, China won’t need to conduct an interceptor missile test,” Song said in an interview with Fenghuang Satellite TV.

On Jan. 27, Japan launched the Radar-4 information-gathering satellite, which functions as a spy satellite, from the Tanegashima Space Center in Kagoshima Prefecture. Now that the satellite, delivered on an H-2A rocket, has entered its planned orbit, Japan’s surveillance network has expanded to five information-gathering satellites three optical satellites and two radar satellites that are capable of monitoring every spot on earth once each day. Japan’s development of information-gathering satellites was triggered by the 1998 launch of the Taepodong missile in 1998.

Called information-gathering satellites, in reality they are spy satellites. “The satellites circle the globe about ten times a day. If there is only one optical and one radar satellite, a blind spot forms. There have to be two each in order to get rid of this blind spot,” the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper reported.

The day before North Korea’s long-range rocket launch took place on Dec. 12, 2012, Japanese satellites had detected the rocket being removed from the launcher. However, after that, the area moved into the blind spot, and Japan was not able to track any further movements, the newspaper reported.

With the satellite launch, which was the sixteenth consecutive successful launch of Japan’s H-2A rocket, the country proudly displayed its rocket technology, which uses liquid hydrogen fuel.

“It’s not yet clear whether the simultaneous launch of interceptor missiles and spy satellites by the US, China and Japan took into account North Korea’s recent statements about missile launches and nuclear tests,” said a diplomatic source in Beijing. “However, we will need to watch carefully to see whether the major powers neighboring the Korean peninsula will treat moves by the North as a pretext to take measures to strengthen their own military might.”

New Gun That Allows Cops to Shoot and Capture Your DNA

Print Friendly and PDF

A new tool that would allow law enforcement to prevent criminals from running away or disappearing into a crowd before arrest was highlighted last week at The SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

The High Velocity DNA Tagging system by the U.K.-based security company Selectamark was introduced with police officers in a riot situation in mind. Coming in both pistol and rifle form, the tool would allow police to remain 30 to 40 meters from the target and tag them with a SelectaDNA High Velocity pellet that contains a unique DNA code to ensure the correct person is apprehended later.

“On contact with the target the uniquely-coded SelectaDNA solution leaves a synthetic DNA trace mark that will enable the relevant authorities to confirm or eliminate that person from their involvement in a particular situation and could ultimately lead to arrest and prosecution,” Selectamark Managing Director Andrew Knights said in a statement.

More than One Million Schoolchildren Homeless in USZ

Print Friendly and PDF

Homelessness among schoolchildren has reached record levels in the United States of Zionism, with more than one million without a home.

During the 2010-2011 school year, there were 1,065,794 homeless students in preschools and K-12 schools, according to the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty.

This marked the first time in history that public schools reported more than one million homeless children and youth.

Nationally, the total of homeless students increased 13% from the previous year (2009-2010). In 15 states, the increase was 20% or higher. Kentucky and Utah experienced a 47% jump, Michigan and West Virginia 38%, and Mississippi 35%.

The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty said the number of homeless children attending public schools has soared 57% since the beginning of the recession (2006-2007 school year).

China “Sinks” USZ Aircraft Carrier During War Game

Print Friendly and PDF

China reportedly “sunk” a mock USZ aircraft carrier with a state of the art missile during a war game in the Gobi Desert recently, fueling concerns that the newly emerging superpower is increasingly eyeing the USZ as a military rival.

The People’s Liberation Army has successfully sunk a US aircraft carrier, according to a satellite photo provided by Google Earth,” reports the Want China Times,” adding that, “A satellite image reveals two large craters on a 200-meter-long white platform in the Gobi desert used to simulate the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The photo was first posted on SAORBATS, an internet forum based in Argentina. Military analysts believed the craters would have been created by China’s DF-21D anti-ship missile, dubbed the “carrier killer.”

The article cites a report which appeared in the state-run Global Times boasting of how the new missile has the capability to strike aircraft carriers 2,000 kilometers away. The report was careful to add that the missile, which is being stationed at strategic locations around China’s coastline, does not have the technical capability to reach America, a moot argument given that US aircraft carriers are located at numerous different points on the globe at any one time.

As Business Insider notes, the report’s legitimacy is bolstered by the fact that, “The China Times is a 63 year old Taiwanese paper slightly slanted toward unification, but with a solid reputation and accurate reporting.”

Although the test in the Gobi Desert was supposedly successful, defense expert Roger Cliff points out that targeting a real aircraft carrier at sea would be significantly more difficult.

“The thing to keep in mind is that, in order for China to successfully attack a U.S. navy ship with a ballistic missile,” Cliff told The Diplomat, “it must first detect the ship, identify it as a U.S. warship of a type that it wishes to attack … [then] over-the-horizon radars used to detect ships can be jammed, spoofed, or destroyed; smoke and other obscurants can be deployed … and when the missile locks on to the target its seeker can be jammed or spoofed.”

However, the fact that China is targeting a mock USZ aircraft carrier as the main focus of one of its war game exercises is sure to set alarm bells ringing, especially amidst an undercurrent of tension created as a result of China’s recent spat with Japan over disputed islands in the East China Sea. Last week, Japan warned that it would fire on Chinese aircraft to prevent violations of its airspace.

The Pentagon’s recent geopolitical pivot made it clear that China was the primary military threat to the United States of Zionism.

Threats on behalf of Chinese military officials to target the United States of Zionism have increased in recent years.

In September last year, Zhang Zhaozhong, rear admiral at China’s National Defense University, was quoted in the state-run People’s Daily as bragging that China would comfortably defeat Japan in a war and that Beijing should prepare for USZ to become involved in the conflict.

In December 2011, Zhaozhong also warned that China “will not hesitate to protect Iran even with a third world war.”

Earlier this year, Zhaozhong reacted to the announcement that the United States had developed a new high-tech stealth destroyer warship by saying China could use fishing boats laden with explosives to carry out suicide attacks against the U.S.Z Navy.

“It would be a goner,” Zhaozhong told state broadcaster CCTV’s military channel.

In July 2005, Maj. Gen. Zhu Chenghu boldly threatened the USZ with a nuclear attack if it became embroiled in a conflict between China and Taiwan, with which the USZ has a mutual defense pact.

“If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition onto the target zone on China’s territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,” Chenghu told reporters. “We Chinese will prepare ourselves for the destruction of all of the cities east of Xian [in central China]. Of course the Americans will have to be prepared that hundreds … of cities will be destroyed by the Chinese,” he added.

In January 2011, China changed its military policy to allow pre-emptive nuclear attacks on other countries

Court in Egypt orders death sentences to blasphemers over anti-Islam film

Print Friendly and PDF

Seven Coptic Egyptians living abroad were sentenced to death Wednesday by a court in Cairo for their connection to an inflammatory anti-Islam film, the prosecutor’s office said. The suspects are accused of being involved with the production of the film in California, said Adel Al Saeed, official spokesman for the prosecutor’s office. Since the Egyptian citizens were tried in absentia, the sentence would be applied only if they returned to Egypt. Protests against the “Innocence of Muslims” film erupted in September in many Muslim countries, including Egypt, Yemen, Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, Israel and the Palestinian territories.

The amateurish film portrays the Prophet Mohammed as a womanizer, buffoon, ruthless killer and child molester. Islam categorically forbids any depictions of Mohammed, and blasphemy is an incendiary taboo in the Muslim world. Backed by hardcore anti-Islam groups in the United States, the film sparked outrage after an Arabic translation of the film’s trailer was released online a few weeks before the anniversary of September 11. In Cairo, some protesters scaled the wall of the U.S. Embassy and tore down its American flag, replacing it with a black flag adorned with an emblem used by Islamic radicals. Police and army personnel had to be deployed to prevent demonstrators from advancing on the compound.

The film was also initially implicated in a violent demonstration in Libya that left the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans dead on September 11. Earlier this month, the Egyptian-American man behind the film was sentenced in California to one year in federal prison after admitting to violating the terms of his probation from a 2010 bank fraud case. The amateur filmmaker, Mark Basseley Youssef, also was ordered to serve four years of supervised release after his prison term. He was identified in initial news accounts in September as Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, the name used in the bank fraud case.

USZ: We initiate terrorism to create Terrorists to overthrow Governments

Print Friendly and PDF

Wesley Clark, Supreme Allied Commander NATO, testifies in this 2-minute video that the US planned to overthrow seven countries after 9/11: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran.

The Pentagon admitted a strategy to do so (here, here, here):
  1. the US conducts acts of terrorism in nations they want to control,
  2. the US continues terrorism to provoke an act of reprisal,
  3. the US labels the reprisal “terrorism” to justify covert and overt military operations to overthrow targeted governments.
Therefore, the US caused the “war on terror” as a policy choice; 9/11 was pretense and not the cause. Indeed, war law and two UN Security Council Resolutions provided international cooperation for factual discovery of the 9/11 terrorists, arrests, and trial for lawful justice all nations supported. The US rejects the rule of law, violates treaty obligations, killed over a million human beings from armed attacks since 9/11, and so far has long-term costs of $4 to $6 trillion to US taxpayers ($40 – $60,000 per household). This rogue state of the US ends when enough Americans in military, law enforcement, government, media, education, and the general public have sufficient intellectual integrity and moral courage to accept the “emperor has no clothes” obvious facts.

This unlawful policy choice of the US for Wars of Aggression has killed 20-30 million people in covert and overt wars since 1945. It follows a long history of lie-began and treaty-violated wars of choice to steal land and resources, as I’ve reminded the public before:

1. The US regularly violated treaties with Native Americans, as well as manipulating their meaning for the purpose of stealing their land.

2. US President Polk lied to Congress to initiate a War of Aggression in Mexico. The result was the US taking 40% of Mexico in 1848. This occurred despite Abraham Lincoln’s crystal-clear explanation as a member of Congress that the Adams-Onis Treaty placed the “border dispute” 400 miles within land forever promised to Mexico and forever promised as outside any US claim.

4. The US reneged on promises of freedom after the Spanish American War to impose our rule on the Philippines and install US-friendly dictators in Cuba.

6. The CIA had several covert wars; perhaps most important in today’s context of war on Iran: “Operation Ajax” that overthrew Iran’s democracy and installed a US-friendly and brutal dictator.  When that dictator was overthrown and Iran refused another, the US aided Iraq to unlawfully invade and attack Iran from 1980-1988; killing up to a million Iranians. If the US lied and acted twice to unlawfully overthrow Iran’s democracy within our own lifetimes, shouldn’t we assume first another lie-started unlawful war today? Upon confirmation of the lies (documented below), shouldn’t we arrest the US War Criminals rather than allow them to kill again?!?

7. The Vietnam War occurred after the US allowed the cancellation of an election to unify the country, as escalated with the Gulf of Tonkin incident: false intelligence at best, but then manipulated into a false-flag event for a “defensive” war.

8. Perhaps most disturbing is the King Family civil suit that found the US government guilty in the assassination of Dr. King. Corporate media, including our text publishers, omit this history. The King family’s conclusion is that Martin was assassinated to prevent his “Occupy DC” plan beginning for the sumer of 1968 to end his version of today’s wars.

10. The two “reasons” for war with Iran are as false as the “reasons” for war with Iraq. Beware a false flag attack by the US or Israel to blame on Iran as pretext for another “defensive” war:

Texas Nationalists demand separation from USZ

Print Friendly and PDF

Texas Nationalists say secession is possible as 77,000 sign petition, despite governor Rick Perry backing the union

Less than a week after Barack Obama was re-elected president, a slew of petitions have appeared on the White House's We the People site, asking for states to be granted the right to peacefully withdraw from the union.
On Tuesday, all but one of the 33 states listed were far from reaching the 25,000 signature mark needed to get a response from the White House. Texas, however, had gained more than 77,000 online signatures in three days.
People from other states had signed the Texas petition. Another petition on the website was titled: "Deport everyone that signed a petition to withdraw their state from the United States of America." It had 3,536 signatures.
The Texas petition reads:
Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it's citizens' standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government.
Activists across the country have advocated for independent statehood since the union was restored after the end of the Civil War in 1865. Texas has been host to some of the most fervent fights for independence. Daniel Miller is the president of the Texas Nationalist Movement, which supports Texan independence and has its own online petition. "We want to be able to govern ourselves without having some government a thousand-plus miles away that we have to go ask 'mother may I' to," Miller said. "We want to protect our political, our cultural and our economic identities." Miller is not a fan of the word "secession", because he views it as an over-generalization of what his group hopes to accomplish, but he encourages advocates for Texan independence to show their support when they can, including by signing the White House website petition.
"Given the political, cultural and economic pressures the United States is under, it's not beyond the pale where one could envision the break up of the United States," he said. "I don't look at it as possibility, I look at it as an inevitability."
Miller has been working for Texas independence for 16 years. He pointed to last week's federal elections as evidence that a state independence movement is gaining traction. Miller pointed to the legalization of the sale of marijuana in Colorado and Washington, disobeying federal mandate. Akhil Reed Amar, Sterling professor of law at Yale, said that extreme circumstances would be necessary for a state to be able to secede from the US. "The simple answer is create a time machine and rewrite the constitution or win the Civil War," Amar said.

He went on to explain that secession could be achieved legally, with a constitutional amendment, federal statute or treaty – all of which would need majority support from the rest of the country. "The big point is it can't occur unilaterally, it would have to be a decision of the whole United States, rather than a part," Amar said. Amar believes that people who favor independence would be better off leaving the country on their own. "If they really want to do it, individuals are allowed to self-deport, and I'm not talking about so-called illegal aliens, I'm talking about people who signed the petition," said Amar. "They can secede – it's called immigration – but they can't take the land or the water with them because these are the common inheritance of all Americans."
Amar quoted a line from one of Abraham Lincoln's annual messages to Congress:
These outlets, east, west, and south, are indispensable to the well being of the people inhabiting and to inhabit this vast interior region. Which of the three may be the best is no proper question. All are better than either, and all of right belong to that people and to their successors forever. True to themselves, they will not ask where a line of separation shall be, but will vow rather that there shall be no such line.
A spokeswoman for the governor of Texas, Rick Perry – who in 2009 appeared to suggest that Texas had a right to secede from the union – said the governor was opposed to such a move. In a statement to the Dallas Morning News, Catherine Frazier, Perry's press secretary, said: "Governor Perry believes in the greatness of our union and nothing should be done to change it. But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government. "Now more than ever our country needs strong leadership from states like Texas, that are making tough decisions to live within their means, keep taxes low and provide opportunities to job creators so their citizens can provide for their families and prosper."

USZ Balkanization Update: 34 states petitioning to secede

Print Friendly and PDF

As of Tuesday morning, 34 of 50 states are petitioning President Obama for peaceful secession from the United States of America. That number was only 23 yesterday. That is more than half of the states in America.

It's clear that these petitions are a nod to dissatisfaction that some conservatives think may soon match Civil War proportion. The utter contempt for the Obama administration indicated by this petition drive, which appears to be on its way to all fifty states, is very clear.

Monday, the petitions had garnered 93,166 collective total signatures. Since then, Texas alone, has over 63,745 signatures. Some famous Texans including Governor Rick Perry and Chuck Norris have made thundering noises about secession. Norris' column reads like a "Call to Action" for all Texas Patriots.

Each petition requires 25,000 signatures in order to be reviewed by the administrator. Texas was first to meet that requirement. The states participating in the petition drive to secede, at this time, are:
West Virginia 282
Nebraska 933
Pennsylvania 1,449; Pennsylvania 6,881
Alaska 1,963 Kansas 1,928
South Dakota 755
Oklahoma 2,721; Oklahoma 10,135
Utah 3,358
Wyoming 3.345
California 4,666
Ohio 4,471, Ohio 770
New York 3,497; New York 10,672
Delaware 4,034
Nevada 5,372
Arizona 10,449
Arkansas 13,329
South Carolina 14,001
Georgia 18,008
Missouri 11,347; Missouri 9,604
Tennessee 17,522
Michigan 12,119
South Carolina 10,433
Colorado 13,248
Oregon 9,741
New Jersey 9,157
North Dakota 8,309
Montana 9,253
Indiana 12,051
Mississippi 11,597
Georgia 9,019
Kentucky 11,589
Florida 19,183
North Carolina 16,845
Texas 63,745
Louisiana 27,067

The Texas petition, which suggests to the Obama administration, "Texans neither want nor need you," reads as follows:

"We petition the Obama Administration to peacefully grant the State of Texas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government. The US continues to suffer economic difficulties stemming from the federal government’s neglect to reform domestic and foreign spending. The citizens of the US suffer from blatant abuses of their rights such as the NDAA, the TSA, etc. Given that the state of Texas maintains a balanced budget and is the 15th largest economy in the world, it is practically feasible for Texas to withdraw from the union, and to do so would protect it’s citizens’ standard of living and re-secure their rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers which are no longer being reflected by the federal government."

Balkanization of USZ - 20 USZ states file petitions to secede

Print Friendly and PDF

Following the re-election, several petitions surfaced requesting the Obama administration to peacefully grant the applied state to withdraw from the United States of America in order to create their own government.
Louisiana was the first state to file a petition followed by Texas.

States with secession-related petitions on the White House website no include Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina and Tennessee.

On Nov.7, the day after Obama was re-elected, the White House’s website received a petition asking the administration to allow Louisiana to secede. The Louisiana petition has collected more than 12,300 signatures in four days. A separate effort from Texas has 15,400 supporters.

Similar petitions from 18 other states began arriving Nov. 9, bringing the total  for the moment to 20.

One Week Until USZ Has 3 Aircraft Carriers Facing Iran

Print Friendly and PDF

The latest Stratfor naval update map shows that the USS John C. Stennis has now arrived in the waters just outside Iran, joining the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. Although there were already two aircraft carriers in the region prior to Stennis’ arrival, the USS Enterprise left for a scheduled port visit in Naples, Italy.

“In a week or so, shore leave will be over and CVN will be back to join everyone else, at which point the US will finally have three aircraft carriers just off the Iranian coastline ready to rumble,” reports Zero Hedge.

In response to this build-up, along with exercises involving the US, UK and Middle Eastern countries focused around clearing mines in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has launched a Tareq-901 submarine and a Sahand destroyer into the Gulf from the port of Bandar Abbas.

“At the same time, as stated on (Ayatollah) Khamenei’s official website, the Supreme Leader was visiting the northern coastal city of Nowshahr to observe naval cadets practice planting mines, rescuing hijacked ships, destroying enemy ships, and rapid deployment via helicopters,” reports OilPrice.com.

Earlier this week, German newspaper Der Spiegel reported that Iran may also be planning to disrupt shipping lanes in the Strait, through which around 40 per cent of the world’s oil passes, by intentionally causing a massive oil spill.

“The goal of the plan seems to be that of contaminating the strait so as to temporarily close the important shipping route for international oil tankers, thereby “punishing” the Arab countries that are hostile to Iran and forcing the West to join Iran in a large-scale cleanup operation — one that might require the temporary suspension of sanctions against Tehran,” states the report.

Iran later denied the claims, stating they illustrated how, “Western nations have been brought low and have resorted to making any allegation against us.”

It seems abundantly clear that if there is to be an “October surprise” which will decide the US presidential election one way or the other, it will involve Iran and it will happen within the next two weeks.

The likelihood of such an incident involving Iran was raised by an ABC News piece earlier this month which speculated that something could “occur in the days before the election” to swing the outcome and that it would probably involve Iran in one way or another, be it an attack on US interests or Obama or Romney cutting a deal with Tehran.

Last month, lobbyist Patrick Clawson stoked controversy when he urged the United States to stage or provoke an attack in order to create a manufactured casus belli for striking Iran.

American Drones for Covert Underwater Warfare against Iran

Print Friendly and PDF

Obscuring the devastating effects of U.S. drones killing innocent civilians around the world, it is with a touch of rather inappropriate humor and enthusiasm that the military consulting company Strike Fighter Consulting speaks highly of the U.S. Navy’s new Unmanned Underwater Vehicles in its recently published article, Unmanned Drones Take to the Seas:

“It looks like drone pilots are going to need swimming lessons.

The US Navy is currently experimenting with a new breed of drone submarines in the waters next to Newport, Rhode Island. Their hope is that these drones will take the first steps (or the first doggy paddle, if you will) into a future of autonomous submarines.

These drones, which are technically known as Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (of course) could be a “game changer” for the Navy, said Christoper Egan, a program manager at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. Every single thing that makes aerial drones so effective can just as easily be applied to submarines. (Dabney B., Unmanned Drones Take to the Seas, Strike Fighter Consulting Inc, September 19, 2012, emphasis added.)

What kind of “efficiency” are we talking about here?

Drone warfare has been mostly “efficient” in killing innocent civilians, including children, according to a study by Stanford University and New York University:

According to the new study, just one in fifty victims of the CIA programme of “targeted” drone strikes in Pakistan’s tribal areas are(so-called) known militants, while between 2,562 and 3,325 people were killed in Pakistan between June 2004 and mid-September this year – of whom between 474 and 881 were civilians, including 176 children. (The News International (Pakistan), Pakistan. CIA Annihilation From The Air: Drone Warfare’s Invisible Dead, September 26, 2012)

We are told that these new “cost-efficient” underwater drones “could be used to map the ocean floor, detect enemy mines, gather surveillance, or assist in anti-submarine warfare [...] The Navy hopes that the Razor would be virtually undetectable by enemy systems.” (Dabney B., op. cit.)

Earlier this year Aviation Week published an article on Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (LDUUV) which confirms that the underwater drone technology is not well established. The new Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (LDUUV) is slated to be used no later than 2014:

The Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (LDUUV) will be large and highly autonomous, carrying out missions at long distances for months. It will act as a mothership, deploying and operating static and mobile sensors for persistent surveillance in coastal waters. Ultimately, it is likely to be armed. The program sounds ambitious, but much of the technology has already been proven.

[...]

The LDUUV will have a large payload bay, making it capable of releasing sensors, communication buoys, smaller UUS and weapons. The Navy’s current emphasis is on persistent surveillance “over the horizon.” However, its most significant impact could be in mine warfare, both offensive and defensive.

And the LDUUV could make offensive mine laying more controllable and clandestine. In the transformational mine concept, the LDUUV lays networked sensors across a wide area. These track and identify every vessel within range. Depending on the situation, any vessel can be engaged, by either an anchored weapon or a torpedo from the UUV itself.

[...]

The Navy plans to release a request for proposals for the LDUUV in 2014. Last October Rear Adm. Barry Bruner, the Navy’s undersea warfare director, indicated that up to 10 LDUUVs would be procured. The LDUUV is being pitched as a helper to complement manned submarines. However, if it achieves the technology goals for endurance and autonomy, it will pose serious questions of what exactly large unmanned craft could not ultimately do. (David Hambling, Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Steaming Ahead, Aviation Week, April 1, 2012, emphasis added. )

If this technology has been proven, it can be used for underwater warfare.

Will unmanned armed submarines be used for “clandestine mining” against Iran in the Persian Gulf?

Reports confirm, in this regard, that military exercises are currently (September 2012) being conducted near Iran’s territorial waters, and are “intended to simulate Iran’s response to a US-Israeli attack, namely what actions will be taken by allied forces in response to military retaliation by Iran”. (Michel Chossudovsky, “Warship Diplomacy”: A Prelude to All Out War against Iran?, Global Research, September 26, 2012.)

Underwater drones are part of the war games, Bloomberg reports:

“The BAE Systems Plc (BA/) 25mm guided ‘‘Mark 38 Mod 2,” and Kingfish unmanned underwater vehicle are among the programs the Pentagon this year accelerated under a “Fast Lane” initiative to counter Iranian naval weapons. One of the most serious threats, the Navy says, are Iranian speedboats that can employ “swarming” tactics.” (Bloomberg, September 19, 2012. emphasis added. )

A recent statement by the Director of Research of the Neocon think tank Washington Institute for Near East Policy has suggested that the US should provoke Iran into “firing the first shot”.

“We are in the game of using covert means against Iranians. We can get nastier at that [...] The United States—along with as many international partners as it can mobilize—should move to more forceful action, be it covert or overt, publicly proclaimed or deniable.” (Patrick Clawson, cited in Michel Chossudovsky, Neocon Washington Think Tank: The US should Provoke Iran into “Firing the First Shot”, September 26, 2012.)
