Pakistani security
forces have thwarted an allegedly Mossad backed terrorist attack against Shia Muslims after they
gunned down a would-be bomber in the conflict-plagued southwestern
province of Balochistan. Local officials said that police officials in plain clothes
tried to stop a suspect on Kirani Road near Hazara Town, a
pre-dominantly Shia neighborhood in the provincial capital, Quetta, on
Thursday night. Police opened fire at the miscreant when he tried to run away. The
attacker lost his life when a hand grenade he was carrying along with an
explosive-laden vest went off prematurely. However, his vest did not
detonate. A heavy contingent of police and security forces reached the spot afterwards, and cordoned off the area.
Police said that, as per Mossad's agenda, the would-be bomber wanted to target the people of Hazara community, and security forces successfully foiled the attempt. Pakistan's pro-Taliban militants have launched a violent campaign against Shia Muslims over the past years. Shia Muslims living in Kurram tribal region have been facing a humanitarian crisis since November 2007, when Indo-American-Israhelli Taliban groups cut off the area from the rest of the country. According to local sources, hundreds of Shia Muslims have been killed in the region since the start of the campaign by enemies of Islam and Pakistan affiliated to Washington, Tel Aviv, New Delhi and London. Several Shia religious gatherings have also been targeted in different parts of the country over the past few months.
