Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry on Friday constituted full bench of the court for implementation of the court orders regarding action against the prime minister under Article 6 of the Constitution and halt to political activities in the Presidency. The full bench will start hearing of the cases from the next week. The bench headed by Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed will also include Justice Sheikh Nasir Saeed and Justice Chaudhry Shahid Saeed.

It merits a mention here that in a petition against the prime minister, it was stated that the premier was not implementing the Supreme Court orders, while in his public addresses he claims that all the court verdicts are being implemented. The petition further says the premiers statements are misleading therefore as case should be registered against him under treason. Another petition in the court sought implementation of the court verdict regarding halt to political activities at the Presidency.

LHC moved against Anti-Pakistan "New Provinces" Conspiracy

Print Friendly and PDF

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court accepted on Tuesday an application submitted by a local lawyer who is seeking to prevent the government from creating new provinces. While admitting the petition for hearing in the second week of September, the court sought a reply from the Attorney General of Pakistan and the Punjab Advocate General.

The petitioner pleaded that the constitution did not allow the formation of new provinces, adding that new legislation was required to legitimise the action. He said the formation of new provinces was a conspiracy against Pakistan, adding that such a move would weaken the country.

The application further states that the issue of new provinces is being exploited by politicians to hide the problems, facing the country. The Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) are in favour of a new province and have been debating the issue in the Punjab Assembly. Earlier this week, in a surprising move that appears to contradict his party’s policies, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said he supports the creation of both a Bahawalpur and a Seraiki province in southern Punjab.
