The Sign of Pakistan's Miracle; 23rd March, 1940

Print Friendly and PDF

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah (r.a)
God provided the Quaid-i-Azam  Muhammad Ali  Jinnah the opportunity to convert the idea of Pakistan into a reality. Stanley Wolpert paid tributes to the Quaid in following words,
“Few individual significantly alter the course of history. Few still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone could be credited with creating a nation State. Muhammad All Jinnah did all three”.
The Lahore resolution, as it was called on March 23, 1940, became the Pakistan Resolution following the 29th Annual session of the All India Muslim League held at Allahabad in April, 1942 followed by the 30th Annual session of the All-India Muslim League under the leadership of the Quaid-i-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah at New Delhi between April 24th to 26th April, 1943. The original resolution of 1940 mentions states, not one state of Pakistan. But, Congress party’s criticism, as also Gandhi’s virulently critical letters to the Quaid, forced the Muslim nation to convert the Lahore resolution into Pakistan resolution.

The resolution passed on April 19, 1946 at the Delhi convention, clarified doubts about the word ‘states’ in original Lahore Resolution. It stated,

“The zone comprising Bengal and Assam in the North-East and the Punjab, Frontier Province, Sindh and Baluchistan in the north-west of India, namely Pakistan Zones, where Muslims are in a dominant majority, be constituted into a sovereign independent State and an unequivocal understanding be given to implement the establishment of Pakistan without delay”.
True, the Pakistan resolution was not over-night exploit of a single figure. It was culmination of the series of event; and movements that converged into the idea of Pakistan: Muhammad bin Qasim established the first Muslim state in the Sub-Continent in 712-715 AD. Shahab-ud-Din Ghouri wrote to Prithvi Raj in 1192 AD that the latter should cede the MusIim-majority areas of the Punjab, NWFP and Sindh to him or be prepared for a war at Tarain battlefield (page 101, tareekh-e-farishta). After Qasim, Qutub-ud-Din Aibak and the Moghul established their rule in India. There were 76 Muslim rulers who ruled over India for about 690 years.

Since early 1870s, there were several movements, which asserted ‘Muslim nationhood’. They covered a broad spectrum of Muslim religious, educational, cultural and political life. The Mohammedan Educational Conference, the Urdu Defence Association (1900), the demand for separate electorates, the foundation of the Muslim League, the Muslim university movement (1910), the pan-Islamic movements beginning with Italy’s raid on Tripoli (1911) and ending with the Khilafat movement (1918-24), and the Kanpur Mosque agitation (1913).

Quaid-i-Azam kept striving for Hindu-Muslim amity. The Quaid began his political career by attending Congress meeting, for the first time on July 28, 1904, Thereafter he struggled for about three decades for the rights of Muslim whom he regarded as a ‘minority’, rather than a nation. Towards the end of 1930, Allama lqbal used the word ‘community’ for the Muslim population in his address at Allahabad. Then later it was only Chaudhry Rehmat Ali, who used the word ‘nation’ for Muslims in his pamphlet ‘Now or Never (1932)’.

Hindus forced Muslims to realize that their rights would be trampled under Hindu Raj by intolerance, terrorist extremism, mass Muslim genocide during which entire Muslim villages and Muslim towns were wiped off the face of the earth killing thousands overnight indiscriminately. Lucknow Pact (1916) was acknowledged as pillar of Hindu-Muslim friendship. However, Nehru, at the behest of the fanatic Hindus, shattered the spirit of peaceful coexistence by formulating his Nehru Report (1928). The Quaid even accepted the recommendations of the Cabinet Mission. This Mission envisaged keeping India undivided for ten years. The constituent assemblies were to consider the question of division after 10 years. When Congress refused to accept the recommendations of the Cabinet Commission, the British government decided to divide India. It was partly Allama lqbal who convinced the Quaid of the futility of the idea of continued Hindu-Muslim amity. On June 21, 1937, Allama Iqbal wrote to the Quaid, “In these circumstances, it is obvious that the only way to a peaceful India is a redistribution of the country on the lines of racial, religious and linguistic affinities.” In another divine message directly from Holy Prophet Muhammad s.a.w, Quaid-e-Azam r.a was ordered to return to the subcontinent from England and fight for Pakistan, the whole of which has been quoted in Jinnah (r.a) The Saint {Episode 2}. (Also read Episode 1 and Episode 3).

The Muslim leaders only wanted that after departure of the British rulers, The rights of Muslims ‘community’ should not be usurped by the brutal Hindu majority. On March 2, 1941, the Quaid (r.a) said, “It is as clear as daylight that we are not a minority. We are a nation and nation must have a territory. A nation does not live in the air. It lives on the land and it must govern land’. The Quaid said at Minto Park on March 22, 1940, “Musalmans are not a minority as it is generally understood. Musalmans are a nation according to any definition of a nation and they must have their homelands, their territory and their state’. On October 27, 1945, the Quaid said at Ahmedabad, “Pakistan is the question of life and death for us. I shall live and die for Pakistan.” “The moon of Pakistan is shining and we shall reach it” (Dawn, October 28, 1945). “We must get Pakistan at any cost. For it we live and for it we will die.” (November 24, 1945, Mardan). “Without Pakistan, there is only death for Muslims.” (February 24, 1946, Calcutta).Creation of Pakistan is a miracle. Hindus’ paranoid hatred converted the Lahore resolution into the Pakistan resolution.

Jinnah(r.a) the Saint - Fascinating Spiritual Dimension of Quaid-e-Azam's Life (Part 3)

Print Friendly and PDF

Quaid-e-Azam's life has been fascinating the people always and will continue to do so. The spiritual aspects of his life are getting revealed gradually and now the youth must understand that they must not make Jinnah only their political leader but also a spiritual inspiration. To get to the depth of this inspiration, one must have one thing in mind that Allama Iqbal was the main motivational force behind him that made him from Jinnah to Quaid-e-Azam.
Baba Quaid's spiritual bond with Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) was well established even before he came into active politics. The fact that Baba Quaid took admission in Lincoln's Inn, a college of law in England, for the sole reason that on its entrance was written the sentence that "Muhammad- The person gave the best law to this planet earth" From this fact, we can easily conclude that Baba Quaid knew the greatnest of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) even in his teenage.
Talking to a gathering in 1932, it was Baba Iqbal who said that "Allah has blessed Mr. Jinnah with such a quality that I can't see in any other Muslim of Hindustan, that he is uncorruptable and unpurchasable" Allama Iqbal was the person who tried to persuade Baba Quaid to return to India in early 1930s during his self-exile. Jinnah now evolved from Muhammad Ali Jinnah to become Quaid-e-Azam in the near future becoming the only leader representing 100 million muslim of sub-continent, taking them out of the mental and physical cage of slavery and carving a new homeland for them where they can live as free men. Baba Iqbal played a guiding star's role in Baba Quaid's life guiding him in all ups and downs and making him firm enough to stand unmoved on his stance and pan-islamism. Baba Quaid on the other hand made Baba Iqbal his spiritual leader and followed every advise whatsoever. This is not a mere claim on my behalf but a documented fact. All the letters exchanged between both have been saved.

After the Pakistan Resolution was moved in 1940, Quaid-e-Azam visited Baba Iqbal's tomb and said to his secretary Matlub-ul-Hassan Syed  "Iqbal is not among us today, if he were alive, he would have been really happy after knowing that we did what he expected from us "

Iqbal was an ideologue, a visionary, a thinker and a philosopher. The implementation and execution of all his vision, philosophy and ideology was carried out by none other but Baba Quaid. I don't want to say that Baba Quaid lacked any sort of political vision but this is indeed a fact that the spiritual spirit in his political vision was infused by Baba Iqbal.
Baba Quaid said after the death of Baba Iqbal:
"For me, he was a friend, a guide, a mentor and a spiritual inspiration. In present time, no one has understood Islam better than Iqbal, and I feel proud to say that under his leadership, I worked as a soldier"
Similarly, Maulana Shabbir Ahmed Usmani, who led the funeral prayers of Quaid-e-Azam told that Rasoolullah(s.a.w.w) came in his dream and told him "Jinnah is my soldier, support him!!"

Addressing Ismail College Student union in Bombay on 12 August, 1939, Quaid-e-Azam said:
"I was born a Muslim, I am a Muslim and would like to die as a Muslim."
It is said some defeatist-minded secularists that Quaid-e-Azam was a secular which mean that he did not wanted to involve Islam in political i.e. Islam is only a matter between man and God. When asked "What are the essential features of religion and a religious state?" Quaid-e-Azam replied:
"When I hear the word religion, my mind thinks at once, regarding the English language and the British usage , of private relation between man and God. but I know fully well that according to Islam, the word is not restricted to the English connotation, I am neither a Maulvi nor a Mullah nor do i claim Islamic theology, but i have studied in my own way the holy Quran and Islamic tenets. This magnificent book is full of guidance for human life, whether spiritual, political, social, economical leaving no issue untouched"

This is no less than a slap for all the liberal fascists who put such a  fatuous blame upon Quaid-e-Azam.
Futhermore when asked "What is the distinctive feature of Islamic state?" he replied in the same gathering addressing the students of Usmania University Hyderabad in August 1941:
"There is a special feature of Islamic State, which must not be overlooked. There, obedience is due to God and God alone, which takes the practical shape in the observance of Quranic principles and commands. In Islam,  obedience is due neither to a king, nor to a parliament, not to any other organisation. It is the Quranic provisions, which determines the limit of our freedom in social and political spheres, in other words, Islamic State is an agency for enforcement of Quranic principles and injunctions"
So, here Quaid means that neither Parliament, nor President or PM is supreme, but only Allah is supreme!
In a message to N.W.F.P Muslim Students Federation, in April 1943, Quaid-e-Azam said:
"You have asked me to give you a message, What message can I give you? We have got a great message in the Quran for our guidance and enlightenment"

In just over seven years, from 1940 to 1947, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah transformed Asia. He woke sleeping giants, the Muslims of South Asia, and gave them a free homeland they had never dreamed of. He ended their slavery, which had consumed their vitality, dignity and wealth for nearly two centuries since their treacherous defeat of Siraj-ud-Daulla at Plasseyin 1757 due to the treachery of Mir Jaffar.
It was because of his greatness that he turned a hindu lady, ratti into a great Muslim lady Maryam Jinnah. Lord Reading, the Viceroy of India offered Jinnah  Knighthood, which he declined saying that he prefers to be called plain Mr. Jinnah than Sir Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It is interesting to know that after Mr. Jinnah’s refusal to be Knighted, when Lord Reading at an informal reception, turned to Mrs.  Maryam (Ratti) Jinnah and asked her to request her husband to agree to be Knighted, she promptly retorted, “If my husband accepts Knighthood, I will ask separation from him”[1]

Mr. H.V. Hodson, an eminent British historian sums up Mr. Jinnah’s character thus, “One  thing is certain he did not change for any venal motive. Not even his political enemies ever accused Jinnah of corruption or self-seeking. He could be bought by no one, and for no price…… He was a steadfast idealist as well as a man of scrupulous honour.”
His greatness was known from the fact that in his mammoth public meetings where almost over eighty percent of the participants could not understand even one single word of English, they would listen to him in pin drop silence and amazingly would clap and raise zindabad slogan at the points of emphasis in his speech. Normally, only fools would clap on what they don't understand, but the mob at that time was awakened by the tireless efforts of Quaid and turned it into a nation. The nation had blind trust in this pious soul which was the sole reason that Pakistan came into being in-spite of such big resistance.
It was universally known back then that elderly people in the remote villages when talking to young people hearing radio or reading newspaper  would ask, “what has Baba (Father) said today?” but in the same breath would reply themselves “whatever he has said must be true”. These villagers would call Jinnah, ‘Baba’ with affection.

Prof. Sharif-ul-Muhahid, an eminent Pakistan historian comments about Quaid-e-Azam:

“Jinnah had termed the Muslims a separate entity in 1935. He upgraded them to a third party status in 1937 and to nationhood in 1940. And within seven years he secured a national home-land for that nation. That was SAINT JINNAH – the invincible!"[2]

Ata-ur-Rabbani further writes:

I was the fortunate one to accompany him. Quaid-e-Azam was happy and relaxed. On the way to Eidgah I saw yet another side of the Quaid. So far we had known him as a leader, a politician, a legislator, a lawyer and a well dressed and a westernized man in manners and etiquette but today I was pleasantly surprised when he gave me  a masterly discourse on the philosophy and significance of Ramadan and Eid. As his limousine left the Governor-General house he asked me as to how many days in the Ramadan I had fasted. “About half of the month, Sir” was my reply. “Why half of the month? Why not the full month? You are young and healthy”. To this I meekly  replied that, “I was on the move Sir for most of the month”, “you should complete the counts now that you are settled”. He then went on to explain to me in depth the significance and the philosophy behind fasting. He said that besides the religious spirit and purification of the soul, “…fasting teaches mankind discipline, self control, self sacrifice and devotion, abstention from all evil for one month, prepares him to face all forces of evil with  discipline and determination. Besides, it tones up the physical system and is good for health. But one has to be careful at iftar as here again it is discipline which requires us not to over eat to make up for the lost meals during the day."[1]
While Quaid-e-Azam was returning from the Eidgah, he ordered the driver to take a different route to Governor General House. This shows his love for Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) and how keenly he followed the sunnah.

Dr. Col. Illahi Bakhsh, one of the last personal doctors of Quaid-e-Azam writes that Quaid-e-Azam said in his last days:
"To me being alive or dead is equal as I have done the task which was assigned to me"[3]

Similarly, In his book, Dr. Riaz Ali Shah, one of the last personal doctors of Quaid-e-Azam writes:

Quaid-e-Azam said in a loud voice: "This is the Divine Will. This is the spiritual blessing(faizaan) of Hazrat Muhammad (s.a.w.w) that the nation which the British imperialists and  Hindu industrialists wanted to erase from Indian peninsula, that nation is now independent. It has its own country, own emblem, own government, currency and constitution. Can any nation have any better gift from Allah Almighty? This is the Caliphate which Allah Almighty promised to Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w) that if your ummah takes the right path, we will grant them with kingship of earth. Its a duty of Muslims to defend this great gift of Allah Almighty. Pakistan is a gift from God and to safeguard it is the utmost duty over every laborer, children, elder and youth...."[4]

The words "Divine will" and "Caliphate" are quite evident in the above statement. Only a saint can utter such words and speak about Allah's plans in the region with so much courage and confirmation.
Knowing all this one can easily imagine the spiritual level of Quaid-e-Azam and his utmost love for Pakistan, Islam and most important of all Aaqa (s.a.w.w). He was the soldier of Islam, he is a legend and his character and personality is a legacy for us. We are the most honored nation of the world that Allah Almighty gifted us with such a charismatic Quaid. May Allah bless us to follow his footsteps (Ameen)

Jinnah (r.a) The Saint - Fascinating Spiritual Dimensions of Quaid-e-Azam's life (Part 2)

Print Friendly and PDF

Pakistan, the Madina-e-Sani
A lot has been written on Quaid-e-Azam and his life but his spiritual dimension is suppressed in his political life. Recently an article composed by one of our team-mate put some light on this topic Jinnah(r.a) The Saint - Fascinating Spiritual Dimensions of Quaid-e-Azam's life which was the first effort of its kind to throw some light on the spiritual dimensions of Baba Quaid's life for the English readers. InshaAllah in this piece of writing, I will try to shed some more light on this topic and make it crystal clear that Jinnah(r.a) was a pious and very practicing muslim and that he wanted to establish a system based on the model of Khilafat-e-Rashida in Pakistan.
There are two types of factions who spread rumors about the personal life and vision of Baba Quaid without taking in consideration the real facts. One faction calls him infidel (God forbids), they will be answered in the later part of the article, while the second is a group of defeatist-minded liberal fascists who blame Quaid of being secular. Their only logic is the excerpt of the speech of Baba Quaid which he delivered in front of the constituent assembly on 11th August 1947. It states:
"You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques or to any other place or worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed that has nothing to do with the business of the State.... We are starting with this fundamental principle that we are all citizens and equal citizens of one State....Now I think we should keep that in front of us as our ideal and you will find that in course of time Hindus would cease to be Hindus and Muslims would cease to be Muslims, not in the religious sense, because that is the personal faith of each individual, but in the political sense as citizens of the State."
Lets see whether he spoke anything against Islam or actually followed the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w). The Charter of Madina was the first constitution of the world.Lets study the article 30 of this charter, it states:
"Bani Auff (a tribe of jews) are now  politically united with the Muslims. The jews and Muslims are free to follow their own religionwithout any discrimination, and their respective allies also have the freedom of religion"
Its clear from the above statement that Holy Prophet(s.a.w.w) gave freedom of religion to everyone, even the last verse of Surah-e-Kafiroon states that: "For you is your religion, and for me is my religion."
So, Quaid-e-Azam actually followed sunnah of Prophet Mohammad(s.a.w.w) by vowing to give everyone the freedom of religion. Similarly, granting minorities all types of basic rights was stated in article 31-40 of the charter of Madinah. So it is not at all against Islam. Actually the blamer doesn't understand the difference between "secularism" and "freedom of religion", which are completely contrast terminologies, or may be the payroll is more attractive than listening to their conscience.
Quaid-e-Azam delivered this speech three days before the creation of Islamic Ideological state of Pakistan just like Prophet Mohammad(s.a.w.w) presented the Charter of Madinah, before the creation of the Islamic ideological state of Madinah. All this propaganda of putting a label of being 'secular' was started by the hostile Hindu press during his life. Quaid-e-Azam replied them while addressing a gathering in Chittagong in march 1948.
He said:
"You are only voicing my sentiments and the sentiments of millions of Mussalmans when you say that Pakistan should be based on pure foundations of social justice and Islamic socialism"
Now coming to the other faction who call Quaid-e-Azam infidel (God Forbid). Today, I will quote some unheard and untold revelations which tell us about the greatness of the man who dressed in English, spoke English, had no beard, but still, he is the greatest soldier of RasoolAllah(s.a.w.w) of his era. History has not produced such a great leader for the last 300 years at least!

The speculators blame him for not offering his prayers, but it doesn't mean that he didn't pray if someone has not seen him offering prayers. Only few people were blessed with the opportunity of seeing him offering his prayers. One of those lucky people was Maulana Hasrat Mohani, an eminent Urdu poet who participated in the struggle movement for Pakistan due to which he was imprisoned many a times.
Hasrat Mohani tells that one day, very early in the morning he went to to see Jinnah(r.a) to deliver him a very important message, I informed the servant but he said that no one is allowed to go into his room at the moment, after a while he will come out himself. As, it was a very critical message and I had to deliver it to Jinnah(r.a) as soon as possible, I went into the house and as I was in the adjacent room to Quaid's room, I heard someone crying like a child, as it was Quaid's voice, I worriedly glanced into his room secretly. What I saw was that Quaid was in a state of Sajdah (prostration) and was praying (dua) for something while crying. I secretly went out of the house and never did the mistake of breaking his privacy again.

Quaid-e-Azam with Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, at Badshahi Mosque
Quaid-e-Azam wanted a purely Islamic, interest-free economy to be established in Pakistan. In the presence of Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, an educated youth inquired Baba Quaid about the economic system that was to be imposed in Pakistan. Qauid-e-Azam pointed towards Maulana Zafar Ali Khan and told him to answer the question. Maulana Zafar Ali Khan says that he thought for a long time about Capitalism, Communism, socialism etc, but as the Quaid noticed that I am taking too long, he said:
"Why you not give them the Quranic Guidance about this?"
Maulana Zafar Ali Khan said that he was left speechless by this reply.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of State Bank of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam said:
The economic system of the West has created almost insoluble problems for humanity and to many of us it appears that only a miracle can save it from disaster that is not facing the world. It has failed to do justice between man and man and to eradicate friction from the international field. On the contrary, it was largely responsible for the two world wars in the last half century. The Western world, in spite of its advantages, of mechanization and industrial efficiency is today in a worse mess than ever before in history. The adoption of Western economic theory and practice will not help us in achieving our goal of creating a happy and contended people. We must work our destiny in our own way and present to the world an economic system based on true Islamic concept of equality of manhood and social justice. We will thereby be fulfilling our mission as Muslims and giving to humanity the message of peace which alone can save it and secure the welfare, happiness and prosperity of mankind.

Quaid-e-Azam was the only leader who rejected the Government of India Act 1935 according to which the country was to be made a federation. On this the British Prime Minister James Ramsay MacDonald called Baba Quaid for a private meeting, and tried to convince him by offering him the Governorship of a province and the title of 'Lord'. On the this Baba Quaid wanted to leave the place and didn't even shake hands with British PM. The PM was astonished and asked him the reason, Baba Quaid said seriously: "I will NOT meet you again because you think that I am for sale"  Indeed Baba Quaid was "uncorruptable and unpurchasable"

Baba Quaid detested sectarianism. He had immense love for Ahl-e-Bayt (The household of Prophet Muhammad). On 21st Ramadhan, the day when Hazrat Ali(r.a) was martyred, Baba Quaid used to cancel all his meetings. Addressing a gathering at Aligarh University, he said: "Tell me, My boy, if you take out Hazrat Umar from Islamic history, what is left in it?"

Hold on, I have not yet quoted the spiritual climax of Quaid-e-Azam's life.
Baba Quaid disgusted by the ignorance of muslims and hostile attitude of Congress left politics and took off to England to spent the rest of his life over there. But soon, he came back. No one actually knows about what was the real persuasive force behind his return. Quaid-e-Azam told his friends, himself.
"I was sleeping in my flat in London and the time was just after the midnight. Someone shook my bed, I woke up, confusedly looked here and there and slept after seeing that there was no one. Again, someone shook my bed, this time I stood up, came out of my room but there was no one again, so I thought that its nothing but an earthquake, so I slept again. The third time, Someone shook my bed with immense force, as i opened my eyes, i sensed a sweet fragrance and noticed that an extraordinary personality is in my room

"Who are you?", asked I.

"I am your Prophet Muhammad (s.a.ww)", replied an affectionate voice.

I uttered 'Peace Be Upon you, my Lord' unconsciously.

Then a sweet voice uttered,"Mr. Jinnah! You are urgently required by the Muslims of the sub-continent and I order you to lead the freedom movement. I am with you. Don't worry at all, you will succeed in your mission inshaAllah"

"Yes My Lord" I heard myself saying.

I kept sitting like a statue, with the mixed feelings of excitement and astonishment, I thought Where I stand and Where Prophet(s.a.w.w) stands, and he came to meet a sinful person like me! This was the  reason that I returned to Sub-Continent" After return, in the presence of Sardar Abdurrab Nishtar and Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, Baba Quaid said:
"I was living like a landlord in London. Now I have returned to India just to strive for a government on the basis of la ilaha illallah (There is no god but God), so that the muslims of Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Arabia, Iraq, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt can combine to form a great united block of mulsim nations" [Book: Mubashiraat-e-Pakistan, Author: Zahoor-ul-Hasan]

This means that Baba Quaid actually wanted a government on pure foundation of Islamic principles and the united block of muslim nations clearly indicated that Quaid wanted to re-establish Khilafah. Baba Quaid resigned from All India Congress in 1920 and one of the main reason behind it was the calling off of disobedience movement by Gandhi just when the Khilafat movement had reached its climax.
The word united block, league of nations used by Baba Quaid(r.a) and Baba Iqbal (r.a) clearly indicated towards the re-establishment of Khilafah.

Baba Iqbal says in his booklet, Islam and Ahmedism said that:
"Islamic solidarity is a guarantee for a practical uniform spiritual atmosphere in the world of Islam, it facilitates the political combination of Muslim states, which combination either assume the form of world-state or of a League of Muslim states... That is how the conceptual structure of this simple faith is related to the process of time"

These are one of the most fascinating aspects of Baba Quaid's spiritual life till date. These spiritual dimensions have never been presented to our youth by any medium and this is sole reason that the youth is misled by paid propaganda machines and personnel. These revelations clearly show that Quaid was a staunch follower of Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.w) and that Pakistan came into being by the direct faiz(blessing) of our Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w).
