'Islamophobic' Lego toys manufactured

Print Friendly and PDF

Austria’s Turkish community has threatened to sue Lego because it thinks the firm’s “Star Wars: Jabba’s Palace” box set might teach children to associate Islam with violence and terrorism.

One of the buildings is a “one-to-one copy” of the Hagia Sophia mosque in Istanbul, while the figure with an axe and machine gun in the minaret-like structure could be a muezzin, the Turkish Cultural Community said.

The “terrorist” Jabba the Hut, the malevolent slug-like alien kingpin from the “Star Wars” movies, meanwhile “loves smoking a water pipe”, it said in a statement.

“It is obvious that the hideous villain Jabba the Hut’s figure and the entire backdrop encourage the depiction of Orientals and Asians as sneaky criminals,” it said.

The organisation said it was considering filing criminal complaints against Denmark’s Lego in Austria and Germany for alleged incitement to racial hatred. It is also mulling legal steps in Turkey.

A Lego spokeswoman, Katharina Sasse, told AFP that the buildings in the box set were faithful copies from “fantasy” structures in the “Star Wars” movies and that the firm was “very sorry” if offence was caused.

“We can guarantee that we definitely did not copy the mosque mentioned or any other building,” Sasse said. She added that Lego had no plans to withdraw the product before its scheduled phase-out at the end of 2013.

Islamophobia nurtures Hate Crime in UK

Print Friendly and PDF

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Senior Minister of State for
Faith and Communities in Britain.

An increase in Islamophobia has caused Muslims to become victims of hate crimes more than any other time in the British history, according to a British minister.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, Senior Minister of State for Faith and Communities, quoted figures from the Association of Chief Police Officers showing that more than 60 per cent of all religious hate crimes reported to police in Britain are now perpetrated against Muslims, and called for it to be dealt with effectively.

In an interview with Geo News, Warsi appealed to more than 1,500 mosques in Britain to report anti-Muslim hate crimes to the police and a special project funded by the government called Measuring Anti-Muslim Attacks (Tell MAMA) project - a one-stop shop that works with agencies, like Victim Support and Neighbourhood Watch, to encourage reporting, support victims and record incidents.

She said more mosques need to take the issue of reporting hate crimes seriously and work with the relevant agencies so that the real depth of the problem could be assessed.

“Muslim women often complain of bad behaviour they face in the town centers. Objectionable material is sent to mosques and Islamic centres and Muslims are targeted in specific due to their appearance and for various other reasons. The problem is really alarming but the real problem is lack of reporting. There should be a register in every mosque to register any incident. Some mosques are already doing but more needs to be done. Our community faces major challenges, we don’t want our children to grow up in an environment where they are hated, viewed with suspicion and treated differently. That’s why I am asking the community to come forward and fulfill their responsibility”, Warsai said.

Last year there were 13,277 prosecutions for racially and religiously motivated hate crimes, 83% of which were successful. But this does not reflect the full picture because there is a shortage of statistical information on hate crime and it is known that Muslims, of all the religious groups, are less inclined to report hate crimes to the police and as a result suffer the most.

Message of Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi (r.a) to the Muslim Youth

Print Friendly and PDF

The following words are from Sultan Salahuddin Ayyubi (r.a) translated from the book, Dastan Emaan Ferosho ki by Al Tamish. Read and absorb it to be part of the army of Ghazwa-e-Hind, as we shall follow our true Muslim leaders only!
"Remember that no non-Muslim can ever be the friend of any Muslim. The Crusaders are incapable to confront us in battlefields, their tactics have failed, and that is why they are trying to eliminate patriotism and religion from the minds of the emerging Muslim generation. The weapon they are using is jeopardous. It is mental extravagance, sluggishness and pretermission. To generate all three of these dreadful elements in you, Christians and Jews have united. Jews by the means of their women are advocating animal spirit and making you drug addicts. I will not say that animal spirit and addiction will wreck your afterlife and you will make way in hell. I want to say that these dreadful elements will shape your life in this world like hell. What you think is the flavour of paradise; it is the torment of hell. You will be the slaves of Crusaders who will roam about humiliating your sisters, the pages of Qura’an will flutter in your alleys and your Masjids will become stables."

"If you want to live like a dignified nation then do not forget your traditions. Crusaders on one front are tyrannizing you and on the other are craving you for wealth. A Muslim is inconvincible to luxury. Your wealth is your character and faith. This is a proof off vanquishment of the Crusaders that they have made their daughters shameless to try to mold you as their slaves. Sons of my nation! Secure your character. Keep yourself in control."

"An oppressive leader in actuality is a weak leader. He attempts to defeat his rivals with tyranny and violence or by creating greed for wealth. You are the future, we are the past. The enemy by terminating the coruscant past from your minds is trying to stuff it with their own blackening ideology and welfare so that the future of Islam is hazy. Recognize your importance. The enemy is trying to suspend you because you are bloodcurdling."

"Keep your eyes not on today but on tomorrow because the eyes of your enemy are on the tomorrow of your religion. You’ve seen what the Kuffaar are doing today, if you occupy yourselves with mental extravagance then all the Islamic nations will be impaired. Do not let your emotions and zest take over you. Do not let your emotions take over your mind. Avoid temptation. Keep yourself in control. Precaution is a must. First organize yourselves then form a leadership."

"If people who carry arms are faithful and sincere to their religion then intrusions from outside and the conspiracies within the state can in no way harm you. Take your eyes further than the borders. There are no borders for an Islamic Empire. The day you and this glorious  religion of Islam is restricted to borders, that day you should know that you will be imprisoned in your own dungeon. Then your boundaries shall shrink. Take your eyes further than the Roman Sea. Temples cannot cease your way. Do not be afraid of the flares within your condo. They will be extinguished in just one blow. Stay away from only two curses; dashed hopes and mental extravagance. A human first gets dashed hopes, then through mental extravagance takes the easy way out."

"The way to defend yourself is, when your enemy takes his sword out of sheathe, your sword should chop his neck. If he is to storm you tomorrow, you should storm upon him today."

‘Blasphemous’ school set alight

Print Friendly and PDF

LAHORE – An angry mob went on a rampage and set a girls’ school alight in the Karim Park area early Wednesday to protest against the administration for allegedly distributing pamphlets carrying blasphemous material among the students. The management of the Farooqi Girls High School, situated on the Ravi Road, denied the allegations and termed the shadowy claims a “conspiracy” by their competitors in the business of private schooling. The police had registered a case against a lady teacher, Arfa Iftikhar, but it did not confirm any arrest until late Wednesday night.

“We have registered a case (FIR No 1470/12) against the (alleged) blasphemer (lady teacher) under section 295-C (of the Pakistan Penal Code) for insulting the Holy Prophet (PBUH). She has not been arrested yet but the police are raiding to capture her,” said Allah Rakha, the duty officer at Shafiqabad police station, when contacted. The case was registered on the complaint of Abdullah Saqib, a religious cleric of the locality. But there were conflicting reports about what had actually happened. Some protesters told reporters that Arfa had asked her students to write an essay for which she dictated to them some derogatory remarks against the Holy Prophet (PBUH), and the kids told their parents about the blasphemous material.

But the complaint had a different account of the story. He told the police that the schoolteacher Tuesday morning distributed an examination paper carrying printed derogatory remarks among more than 160 students of class-VI. This claim was contradicted by a local resident, who said he had taken a glance at the said question paper and claimed that it was a just a plain sheet carrying handwritten material in English language rather than anything in printed form.
As the rumour about this contentious, allegedly ‘blasphemous’ paper spread around by late Tuesday night, angry locals converged outside the school building and staged strong protest demonstration against the school management. Later, the police arrived at the scene and managed to disperse the protesters.

Again on Wednesday morning, dozens of area residents gathered outside the school building and chanted slogans against the administration and the teacher. They also forced their entry into the school, ransacked the furniture and set the building alight. Heavy police contingents reached the spot but failed to cool down the angry mob. Eyewitnesses said that the protesters thrashed Asim Farooqi, the school principal, and later handed him over to the police. But police did not confirm the arrest of the principal.

The accused schoolteacher was not present when the police raided her house in Malipura area, police sources said, adding that she had gone into hiding along with her kids. Police raids were underway till filing of this report. Locals said the situation was quite tense in the locality, where reportedly some public representatives too were instigating protests against the management of the school, where hundreds of students are enrolled. The police are deployed around the school to keep the things under control. Adeeb Javedani, president of the All Private Schools Management Association (APSMA), has called for constituting an independent commission to probe into what he said ‘sensitive matter.’

According to Section 295-C of the PPC, “Whoever by words, either spoken or written, or by visible representation or by any imputation, innuendo, or insinuation, directly or indirectly, defiles the sacred name of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) shall be punished with death, or imprisonment for life, and shall also be liable to fine.”

The incident has come at a time when the international powers are pressing Islamabad hard to amend the blasphemy law. Javedani demanded the Punjab chief minister to personally look into the matter to ensure justice. He said that Farooqi Girls High School is among the leading institutions imparting girls’ education for the last more than 25 years. The Association president also claimed that the incident was a conspiracy against the school management.
