ISLAMABAD: Pakistani American businessman Mansoor Ijaz submitted his BlackBerry Personal Identification Number (PIN) to the commission investigating the Memogate scandal, a private news channel reported earlier today. Headed by Balochistan High Court (BHC) Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the three-member commission had earlier given a number of orders and sent out a spate of notices to all respondents of the case.
It also sought the equipment used to communicate over, and then send, the memo in question and also ordered that message records be requested from Research in Motion (RIM) – the Canada-based service provider of BlackBerry Messenger, through which Ijaz and former ambassador to the US Husain Haqqani allegedly exchanged messages regarding the memo.
According to Ijaz, Haqqani used the PIN 21A5EC74 from October 28 to November 4 and 2326A31D from May 9 to May 12. The BlackBerry PIN which has been submitted by Ijaz today is an identification number assigned to each smartphone which is locked to each specific handset. Users can message each other on BlackBerrys using the PIN directly or by using the BlackBerry Messenger application.
Research In Motion has vowed to defend the legal privacy rights of BlackBerry users after the judicial commission ordered copies of smartphone communications for the probe. Earlier this week, the commission directed the Pakistan government officials to obtain the BlackBerry ‘record of conversation’ between Ijaz and Haqqani.
The commission has summoned USZ stooge President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI) and the ever opportunistic USZ puppet, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on January 9.
