UK Helped India in 1984 Sikh Genocide; Thatcher's Letter to Indra Gandhi Leaked

(January 15, 2014)—Margaret Thatcher gave her Indian counterpart Indira Gandhi Britain’s full support in the immediate aftermath of the 1984 [Sikh Genocide], according to private correspondence seen by the Guardian.

The then British prime minister sent a personal note saying that Britain supported India’s unity in the face of demands for a separate [Sikh homeland—demands that became stronger after the murder of tens of thousands of innocent Sikhs.]

The letter will cause further debate about Britain’s role in the raid among the worldwide Sikh community and senior MPs across the political spectrum after it was disclosed on Monday that the Indian government had made an apparent request for advice from the SAS in the months leading up to the raid.

It will form part of an investigation launched by the cabinet secretary, Sir Jeremy Heywood, on the orders of David Cameron to determine the British government’s actions over the raid on Sikhism’s holiest site in Amritsar.

The Indian government says about 400 people were killed when Gandhi sent troops into the temple complex in June 1984 in the six-day Operation Blue Star. Sikh [and independent third party] groups, which have called for an inquiry into the British role in “one of the darkest episodes in Sikh history”, put the death toll in the thousands, including many pilgrims. [It has been documented in recent years that thousands of Sikhs were cremated in mass graves in order to cover up the atrocities.]

In what appears to be the first letter to Gandhi after the raid, sent on 30 June 1984, Thatcher wrote: “These have been anxious weeks for you, involving difficult decisions. I have followed closely your efforts to restore calm there, and I very much hope that the ‘healing touch’ for which you have called will open the way to a peaceful and prosperous future in that troubled region.”

The letter, which is in response to two sent by Gandhi on 9 and 14 June, appears to show that the Indian prime minister had expressed worries that [so-called] Sikh “extremists” could use Britain as a base. Thatcher wrote: “I well appreciate your concern about the potential security threat posed by extremists outside India. We are determined not to allow our traditional freedoms to be abused by those who seek to use violence for political ends.”

In an apparent reference to death threats against Gandhi which had been reported in the British media, the UK prime minister who died last year wrote: “We have made sure the police are aware of these statements and they are investigating them.”

Thatcher also reassured Gandhi that British police were “devoting considerable resources” to safeguarding Indian government personnel in Britain.

A few months after the letter was sent, Gandhi was [executed by her own Sikh bodyguards for her continued acts of Genocide. This triggered further pre-planned pogroms causing the deaths of thousands of Sikhs across India.]

Other documents in the file make clear Whitehall’s interest in lucrative arms sales to India at this time. A secret Foreign Office briefing dated 22 June 1984, which was sent to Downing Street, stressed that British “commercial interests” in India were “very substantial. It it a large and growing market for both commercial and defence sales. British exports in 1983 exceeded £800m and since 1975 India has bought British defence equipment worth over £1.25bn,” the document claims.

Cameron on Wednesday appeared to downplay the likelihood of an inquiry finding evidence that Britain was to blame for the [genocide]. Labour’s former deputy chairman Tom Watson suggested the British might have played a part in the assault on the temple in exchange for the Indians agreeing to purchase a fleet of helicopters in a £65m deal.

Watson said to Cameron: “On your Amritsar inquiry, instead of ordering the civil servants to investigate, why don’t you just ask lords Geoffrey Howe and Leon Brittan what they agreed with Margaret Thatcher, and whether it had anything to do with the Westland Helicopter deal at the time?” Cameron dismissed any suggestions of a conspiracy.

Needless to say, we in the United Kingdom fully support India’s unity. I well appreciate your concern about the potential security threat posed by extremists outside India. We are determined not to allow out traditional freedoms to be abused by those who seek to use violence for political ends.
I know that certain remarks carried by the media in Britain have caused distress in India. We have made sure the police are aware of these statements, and they are investigating them. As you know, the media are independent in Britain, as they are in India. This means that the government does not interfere in media decisions, however much we may personally regret them.
I know that you are also concerned about the safety of your government’s personnel and premises in this country. We firmly intend to fulfil our responsibility to protect them. The police are devoting considerable resources to this task. They will of course continue to need the fullest co-operation and assistance from your people.

British Petroleum Harassing Critics on Facebook after Pre-Planned Oil Spill

Nature destroyed by British Petroleum's deliberate Oil Leak

BP is embroiled in a new controversy after accusations that the British corporation hired a public relations firm to harass and intimidate Facebook users who condemned the company for its handling of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

The largest environmental disaster in US history began on April 20, 2010 with an explosion on the Deepwater Horizon oil rig located near the Mississippi River Delta. Eleven workers were killed in the blast, and an oil gusher on the ocean floor spent 87 days pumping at least 4.9 million barrels of oil into the Gulf. The spill has resulted in a massive $7.8 billion deal to settle damage claims.

In an attempt to heal its image in the face of public outrage and persistent attacks via social media, the company formerly known as British Petroleum hired the international PR company Oglivy and Mather to run the BP America Facebook page.

Accusations have surfaced that Facebook users who posted critical comments on the page have become the subject of attacks, threats, and ongoing harassment. One user, known as “Marie,” told Al Jazeera she feels the need to remain anonymous because of a “fear for my personal safety should the BP trolls find out that I am the whistleblower in this case.”

Troll is defined in the internet lexicon as an anonymous online bully who may post comments or send messages intended to upset the recipient. Physical threats are not uncommon in such online communities. Marie said she recorded examples of such attacks and has turned over boxes of material to the Government Accountability Project (GAP).

“We’d been hearing this kind of harassment by BP when we were working on our health project [in the Gulf of Mexico], so it sparked our interest,” said GAP investigator Shanna Devine. “We saw Marie’s documentation of more serious threats made on the BP page, and decided to investigate. We’ve seen all this documentation and that’s why we thought it was worth bringing to the ombudsman’s office of BP, and we told them we thought some of it even warranted calling the police about.”

In one instance, Marie said, someone edited an image of the bird used in BP’s logo so that the cartoon was staring down the sight of an automatic weapon. She said the cyber-attacks followed her onto her personal page and were lobbed from a whole list of Facebook users.

“The harassment communications are not something that BP and their people are not aware of,” Steve Lockman, legal investigator with Levine, Papantino, Thomas, Mitchell, Rafferty & Proctor, told Al Jazeera. “It’s not a secret that the personal attacks, broadcast abuse, and type-written harassment were happening and continue to go on…We have thousands of documents regarding communications posted through various Facebook websites.”

Marie and the other accusers say BP, through trolls, sought their personal information and then used that against them by contacting their employers, family members, and making their IP addresses publicly available. The company has yet to respond to any allegations, but a former Ogilvy associate said in 2012 the firm handled all of BP’s social media during the crisis.

Chris Paulos, one of the lawyers investigating the case, told Al Jazeera the incident is yet another example of “subversive attempts by corporations to put forward their ideology of what we should think about them, and doing it in a way that is not decipherable to the average person.”

UK pushing 100,000 more Kids into Poverty

The British government’s squeeze on benefits is to force a further 100,000 children from working families into poverty, ministers have admitted for the first time.

According to official figures, a total of 200,000 children will be pushed into poverty as a result of British Chancellor George Osborne’s plan to limit annual increases in working-age benefits to 1 percent from April.

Moreover, Liberal Democrat pensions minister Steve Webb disclosed that 50 percent of those children come from families where at least one parent works.

The new figures seem to undermine the Chancellor’s claims that his cap on benefits is designed to target Britain's jobless "shirkers".

"The Government wants to run away from the problem and ignore the fact that half the children pushed into poverty as a result of the strivers' tax have parents who are working hard while this Government makes life even more difficult for them,” said shadow employment minister, Stephen Timms.

"Children should not pay the price of this Government's economic failure,” he added.

The cap on benefit handouts was approved by British MPs on January 8, despite a move by some Labour and Liberal Democrats to block it.

UK to aid France in Terrorizing Mali with Intervention

Britain has announced it will provide France with logistical support during its Mali intervention as French forces stepped up airstrikes against Islamist militants fighting government troops in the North African country. The British terrorist prime minister has welcomed France’s decision to intervene in the North African country to "help" the Malian army halt a rebel advance towards the capital Bamako.

"The Prime Minister has agreed that the UK will provide logistical military assistance to help transport foreign troops and equipment quickly to Mali," David Cameron's office said in a statement on Saturday, adding that London is not going to deploy British personnel in a combat role. Downing Street said two military transport planes would be deployed, AFP says. Over 100 rebels and dozens of Malian + French troops have been killed as Malian troops backed by the French military fought for control of the strategic town of Konna.

Meanwhile, Paris announced on Saturday that a French pilot had been killed in an air raid over Konna. "During this intense combat, one of our pilots… was fatally wounded," French Defense Minister Jean

-Yves Le Drian said in a statement. The pilot was wounded during the operation and later died in hospital. This comes just two days after France sent hundreds of troops to its former colony. The West African regional bloc ECOWAS, will begin sending troops to Mali on Monday.

French airstrikes overnight pushed back Islamist rebels from Konna and destroyed a rebel command center, Le Drian said. The deployment of French troops has been met with anger from Islamist group Ansar Dine, which said the move will have “consequences for French citizens in the Muslim world.” Ansar Dine is fighting on the frontline of the battle of Konna. “We are actually in Konna for jihad," an Ansar Dine spokesperson told AFP on Friday.

French President Francois Hollande says the country will raise its domestic terror threat level as a result of the military operations. He promised to increase protection at public buildings and transportation networks. France decided to take military action after a plea from Mali’s president, and says the intervention will last as long as necessary. However, many critics say France may have had its own motivations for deploying troops in the country.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council called for “rapid deployment” of international forces in Mali to combat the Islamist militants in the north of the country. Given the latest developments in the West African country, the members of the UNSC “expressed their determination to pursue the full implementation” of its resolutions on Mali, in particular Resolution 2085, adopted in December, which authorizes the deployment of over 3,000 African-led international troops. The support force approved by the UN had not been expected to be deployed until September 2013.

Ansar Dine and Mujao have controlled most of northern Mali since last April. They formed an alliance with Tuareg rebels following a military coup in March. However, their alliance quickly collapsed, with the Islamists capturing the area's urban centers and marginalizing the Tuareg rebels.

Princess Diana Murdered by MI6 Death Squad: Report

RUSSIAN intelligence agents in France had become suspicious of the sudden arrival of three senior MI6 officers in Paris before Princess Diana’s death, a new book claims.

Author Gennady Sokolov argues that she was killed in “a distinctly English murder” contracted out by the British spies.

In the book, to be published in ­Moscow next year, he will say the most likely scenario is that a microchip was planted in her car enabling its steering and brakes to be disabled on a signal from an operative who joined the chasing paparazzi.

He claims: “There will never be documents about it. Never. Those responsible must all have been liquidated. The traces have also gone. Some of the witnesses disappeared in the strangest manner.”

Sokolov, who has many contacts in the Russian secret services, said the MI6 officers had arrived and stayed incognito. “Normally when players of such rank are in the country the host intelligence services are aware about it. Here DST (French counter intelligence) had no idea.

“Our people were following them. After all, they were leading faces of British intelligence. Whatever people say about our guys from Yasenevo (headquarters of Russian foreign intelligence, the SVR) they know their rivals very well.”

Sokolov claimed he had met Russian operatives who were involved in seeking to establish the role of the senior British agents in France.

The presence of MI6 figures was known to the Scotland Yard inquiry into Diana’s death headed by former Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lord Stevens.

An inquest returned a verdict of unlawful killing, blaming the drunken driving of Ritz hotel security boss Henri Paul and pursuing paparazzi photographers for the fatal crash in the Alma tunnel in August, 1997.

The security services have always denied any involvement in the Princess’s death.

Sokolov’s claims echo some of the views of Mohamed Al Fayed, whose son Dodi, Diana’s lover, also died in the crash. The author’s dossier on the Princess’s death was passed to the former Harrods owner before the inquest, though he never had any contact with the tycoon, he said.

In an article in the Komsoloskaya Pravda newspaper, Sokolov said he had identified “at least three dozen absurdities” which point to foul play and a sophisticated cover-up.

“Diana became a real threat to the Windsors,” he said. “There was a strong rumour she was pregnant and I think that it was not a coincidence that her body was mummified an hour before it was sent to London. After that it would be impossible to identify if she was pregnant.”

David Cameron fooling the world on MI5 Asset Abu Qatada's release from prison

Following British authorities “reluctantly” releasing Abu Qatada from prison on bail after a British court ruled the so-called "Muslim" cleric should not be extradited to Jordan, British prime minister David Cameron complained,

“I am completely fed up with the fact that this man is still at large in our country. We believe he is a threat to our country… We have moved heaven and earth to try and comply with every single dot and comma of every single convention to get him out of the country.”

Mr. Cameron would like the British people to believe he is disgusted with the misdeeds of Mr. Qatada. Cameron, however, is leaving out the part about Qatada’s service to British intelligence.

Abu Qatada, described as the so-called “spiritual head of the mujaheddin in Europe,” worked with British intelligence and ratted out his fellow Islamic extremists. In 1997, he met with MI5 and French officials say his continued cooperation with the authorities allowed him to avoid arrest after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. The MI5 went so far as to set him up in a safe house and protect him.

Qatada’s friend, Bisher al-Rawi, served as an informant and a go-between MI5 and Qatada in numerous meetings between late 2001 and 2002. Al-Rawi also served as Qatada’s MI5 translator.

The cozy relationship ended in 2002 when Qatada was arrested, mostly because he was an embarrassment – he had attempted to morally justify the attacks in New York and Washington D.C.

Zionist UK to double number of drones in Afghanistan

The UK military reportedly aims to double the size of its armed drone fleet in Afghanistan to ten by purchasing five US-made Reaper drones, which for the first time will be controlled from a UK base. The first five were controlled at US stations. The Royal Air Force (RAF) announced the expedited purchase of the US-made unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), with operations set to begin in six weeks, AFP reported. The drones will be flown and operated from a tech hub built 18 months ago in the British region of Waddington in Lincolnshire, a leap forward in technological prowess for the UK. The other five drones the UK operates in Afghanistan were controlled from a US Air Force base in Nevada, and target suspected insurgents in Afghanistan’s southwest province of Helmand.

"The new squadron will have three control terminals at RAF Waddington, and the five aircraft will be based in Afghanistan," an RAF spokesperson told the Guardian. “We will continue to operate the other Reapers from Creech though, in time, we will wind down operations there and bring people back to the UK.”
It is not known whether the drones will remain in Afghanistan following the NATO withdrawal in 2014. Drone controversy deepens The use of UAVs in Middle East is a controversial issue, as drones airstrikes frequently kill large numbers of innocent civilians.

Last month’s study from Stanford and New York universities titled ‘Living Under Drones’ claimed that only two percent of drone strike casualties in Pakistan are the top militants targeted in the attacks, and that the large number of collateral civilian deaths have turned Pakistanis against the US.
The “best available information,” according to the study, is that between 2,562 and 3,325 people were killed in Pakistan from June 2004 through mid-September of this year. An estimated 474 to 881 of those killed were civilians, including 176 children. In early October, Pakistani Interior Minister Rehman Malik said that an overwhelming majority of those killed by US UAV strikes in Pakistan are innocent civilians. Malik asked the US to share its drone technology with Pakistan, claiming his government could do a better job at targeting terrorists than Washington.

"The Americans themselves often don’t know who they’ve hit,” anti-drone activist and filmmaker Grayson told RT. “And this huge discrepancy over the figures… we’re finding out that a lot more civilians are being killed. But these are the people that the Americans don’t tell you about. And they actually class these people as ‘other.’” The CIA has not responded to these calls for restraint, and recently asked the White House to increase the number of drones it employs, effectively transforming the program into a paramilitary force.

This summer, the UN lashed out against US drone policy, and asked Washington to clarify the legal basis for drone strikes against terror suspects rather than trying to capture them. The body argued that the airstrikes, which frequently kill innocent civilians, may be violating international law. The US uses drone technology across the Middle East and North Africa, including in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen and Somalia. In the first nine months of 2011, leading up to the ten-year anniversary of the Afghan War, US-led spy drones operating with NATO conducted nearly 23,000 surveillance missions in Afghanistan. At around 85 flights a day, this figure nearly doubles the rate of such missions from two years previous.

As the Pentagon increases the number of drones used in NATO missions in Afghanistan, insurgent attacks have risen nearly 50 percent since 2009, according to a media brief released in the fall of 2011 by the Afghanistan International Security Assistance force. The UK has operated UAVs in Afghanistan since 2008 for combat missions and surveillance operations. According to the UK’s Ministry of Defense, Britain’s five drones were flown for 39,628 hours and fired 334 laser-guided missiles and bombs at suspected insurgents.

The Ministry of Defense said that it does not know how many insurgents have died from drone attacks because of the risks involved in verifying who has been hit. The ministry also said that it relies on Afghans to handle complaints of civilians killed by such strikes, and gather statistics. Heather Barr, a lawyer for Human Rights Watch, believes this system of verification is flawed because it lacks uniformity, and not all Afghans have ready access to NATO military bases where such complaints can be made. For some Afghans, there is “a certain sense of futility in doing so [reporting civilian deaths] anyway,” due to lack of trust in the West, she said.

Horrors of war: USZ, UK munitions ‘cause birth defects in Iraq’

US and UK weapons ammunition were linked to heart defects, brain dysfunctions and malformed limbs, according to a recent study. The report revealed a shocking rise in birth defects in Iraqi children conceived after the US invasion. Titled ‘Metal Contamination and the Epidemic of Congenital Birth Defects in Iraqi Cities,’ the study was published by the Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology. It revealed a connection between military activity in the country and increased numbers of birth defects and miscarriages.

The report, which can be found here, also contains graphic images of Iraqi children born with birth defects. (The images were not published on RT due to their disturbing content.) It documents 56 families in Fallujah, which was invaded by US troops in 2004, and examines births in Basrah in southern Iraq, which was attacked by British forces in 2003. The study concluded that US and UK ammunition is responsible for high rates of miscarriages, toxic levels of lead and mercury contamination and spiraling numbers of birth defects, which ranged from congenital heart defects to brain dysfunctions and malformed limbs.

Fallujah, around 40 miles west of Baghdad, was at the epicenter of these various health risks. The city was first invaded by US Marines in the spring of 2004, and then again 7 months later. Some of the heaviest artillery in the US arsenal was deployed during the attack, including phosphorus shells.

Shocking findings
Between 2007 and 2010 in Fallujah, more than half of all babies surveyed were born with birth defects. Before the war, this figure was around one in 10. Also, over 45 percent of all pregnancies surveyed ended in miscarriage in 2005 and 2006, compared to only 10 percent before the invasion. In Basrah’s Maternity Hospital, more than 20 babies out of 1,000 were born with defects in 2003, 17 times higher than the figure recorded in the previous decade.

Overall, the study found that the number of babies in the region born with birth defects increased by more than 60 percent (37 out of every 1,000 are now born with defects) in the past seven years. This rise was linked to an increased exposure to metals released by the bombs and bullets used over the past decade. Hair samples of the population of Fallujah revealed levels of lead in children with birth defects five times higher than in other children, and mercury levels six times higher. Basrah children with birth defects had three times more lead in their teeth than children living in areas not struck by the artillery.

The study found a "footprint of metal in the population,” Mozhgan Savabieasfahani, one of the lead authors of the report said. Savabieasfahani is an environmental toxicologist at the University of Michigan's School of Public Health.

"In utero exposure to pollutants can drastically change the outcome of an otherwise normal pregnancy. The metal levels we see in the Fallujah children with birth defects clearly indicates that metals were involved in manifestation of birth defects in these children," she said. The study's preliminary findings, released in 2010, led to an in-depth inquiry on Fallujah by the World Health Organization (WHO), the results of which will be released next month. The inquiry is expected to show an increase in birth defects following the Iraq War.

According to the WHO, a pregnant woman can be exposed to lead or mercury through the air, water and soil. The woman can then pass the exposure to her unborn child through her bones, and high levels of toxins can damage kidneys and brains, and cause blindness, seizures, muteness, lack of coordination and even death.

Ironic: US and UK 'unaware' of rise in birth defects
US Defense Department responded to the report by claiming that there are no official reports indicating a connection between military action and birth defects in Iraq. "We are not aware of any official reports indicating an increase in birth defects in Al Basrah or Fallujah that may be related to exposure to the metals contained in munitions used by the US or coalition partners,” a US Defense Department spokesperson told the Independent. “We always take very seriously public health concerns about any population now living in a combat theatre. Unexploded ordnance, including improvised explosive devises, are a recognized hazard.”

An UK government spokesperson also said there was no "reliable scientific or medical evidence to confirm a link between conventional ammunition and birth defects in Basrah. All ammunition used by UK armed forces falls within international humanitarian law and is consistent with the Geneva Convention."

Mutant Insects Traced to Fukushima : ’Nuclear butterflies’

The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster is causing "nuclear butterflies" to emerge across Japan. According to a study published in an online magazine, experts believe radiation fallout may have caused pale blue grass butterflies to undergo "physiological and genetic damage."

Monday, ABC News said that scientists looked at about 121 butterflies, two months after the nuclear disaster in Japan. What they found was astounding.

Of the insects captured, about 12% had smaller wings. However, when their offspring were born, the number increased another 5%.

Nuclear butterflies were even seen six months later after the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster. About 28% had "abnormal traits," according to study authors. That number is expected to double by the next generation due to above-normal radiation fallout.

"At the time of the accident, the populations of this species were overwintering as larvae and were externally exposed to artificial radiation. It is possible that they ate contaminated leaves during the spring and were thus also exposed to internal radiation," said researchers in the study on the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant disaster.

Other than "nuclear butterflies" in Japan, small amounts of cesium were found in several bluefin tuna off San Diego’s coast last year. While the numbers are about 10 times higher than the year before, Japan officials say the radiation amounts are well below threats to human health.

The abnormalities, which the researchers traced to the radiation released from the nuclear power plant, include infertility, deformed wings, dented eyes, aberrant spot patterns, malformed antennas and legs, and the inability to fight their way out of their cocoons. The butterflies from the sites with the most radiation in the environment have the most physical abnormalities, the researchers found.

British Prime Minister David Cameron has said that the UK will remain a “staunch friend” of the Israeli regime, publicly announcing his commitment to Israel’s interests, this time at the London Olympics.

After the International Olympic Committee refused to politicize the Olympic Games by including a moment of silence in the London Olympic opening ceremony for the Israelis killed at the 1972 Munich Olympics, Cameron, his cabinet ministers, and Israeli embassy officials in London attended a memorial service at London’s Guildhall.

At the ceremony, Cameron once again announced his commitment to the Israeli regime’s interests saying “Britain will always be a staunch friend of Israel”.

When Cameron became the leader of the Conservative Party, he declared: “You need to know that if I become prime minister, Israel has a friend who will never turn his back on Israel”.

Furthermore, when he became Britain's Prime Minister, Cameron proclaimed: “In me, you have a prime minister whose belief in Israel is indestructible... I want to be clear, we will always support Israel...”

Cameron’s latest remarks during the London Olympics are another example of politicizing the Olympic Games while the British capital is supposed to be hosting an international peaceful event and build a “better world through sport and the Olympic ideal”.

London Olympics 2012- Predictive Programming

The Stadium appears to be a sacrificial altar prepared for a coming satanic blood sacrifice far worse than 9/11.

The original Games held at the Olympiad beginning 776 BC in classical Greece was not just a naked sporting event, but was more of a cavorting pagan ritual that ended in mass animal sacrifice to the sun god Zeus. Following ancient rites, the XXX London 2012 Olympics seems to also be prepared as a blood sacrifice to Zeus/Lucifer, planned by generational Satanists who control the global shadow government and intend to seize their prize of power, profit and prestige; a chimera promised in exchange for subservience to their cruel Lord, Lucifer.

Symbolism and predictive programming suggests that the 2012 Olympics will symbolically”crown the capstone” of the NWO Pyramid with the”Eye of Horus”. According to British tradition, King Arthur with his magical sword Excalibur is expected to return as a conquering saviour at a time of intense trouble. The Eye of Horus represents a coming world leader known to Satanists as ”Vindex”, who they will herald as the returned King Arthur to head a global government.

The famous British anthem, ”Jerusalem”, from occultist William Blake’s 1804 Prophetic Books asks:

England’s ”Green and Pleasant Land” gave way to ”Dark Satanic Mills” representing the old industrial order. UK Government to keep an Eye on Everyone: The Queen is a Threat to Your Privacy

On May 9th, 2012, Queen Elizabeth II addressed the British Parliament and dealt a blow to the privacy of every person living in or visiting the UK. From her speech:

My government intends to bring forward measures to maintain the ability of the law enforcement and intelligence agencies to access vital communications data under strict safeguards to protect the public, subject to scrutiny of draft clauses.

What is the UK government’s plan to implement this new power for law enforcement?

The Draft Communications Data Bill plans to expand the scope of data required to be retained by ISPs and telecommunications companies, as well as increasing the duration that data is to be retained. It also requires these companies to open their data centers fully to government inspection. What will this bill’s scope include?

 ■Every phone call you make or receive from a land line, mobile phone, or VoIP account (think Skype or Vonage)

 ■If possible, where you were when you made or received the phone call

 ■Every email you send or receive

 ■Every chat conversation you have

 ■Every website you visit, and what you viewed on that website

The scope of this bill includes accessing social networks outside the UK, such as Facebook and Twitter, which were not within the scope of previous laws.

All this information will be collected and routed to the GCHQ (similar to the NSA in the United States), where it will be analyzed in real-time.

In essence, the government proposes to violate your communications privacy … and the privacy of everyone you contact. The bill will affect you whether you are living permanently in the UK or just visiting.

We have all heard the arguments about why the government needs to collect this information. They need to keep everyone safe from terrorists, child molesters, and criminal organizations. But if we REALLY want to know why the UK government wants this bill, let’s dive into the details. Specifically, on page 25 (page 29 of the PDF), look for this section near the middle of the page:

(6) For the purposes of this section it is necessary to obtain communications data for a permitted purpose if it is necessary to do so-

(g) for the purpose of assessing or collecting any tax, duty, levy or other imposition, contribution or charge payable to a government department

Ah … so, in addition to all the other “criminals” the government claims they want to protect you from, they want to violate your privacy to make sure you are paying all the taxes they think are due … because you might be a criminal too! This authority can be granted to any UK government authority at any level who believes you owe them money. So this is NOT exclusively a tool for national security or law enforcement!

Planting Your Electronic Flag Elsewhere Is Essential

I don’t write these articles to scare readers … though the content is often both scary and offensive to those who value their privacy. I write this so that people will take action. Right now. Today.

The majority of people who read articles from International Man are looking at how to internationalize and diversify their assets and investments outside of their home country. This is often as much due to the opportunities that are available as it is to protect their assets, investments, and even themselves from predatory governments. To put your plan in place, you will be working with real estate brokers, investment advisors, lawyers, bankers and others from all over the world.

Why ruin all the work you are putting into your international diversification plan by doing all this from an email account in your home country? Or contacting your foreign residency and passport specialist from your home phone?

Simply put, you are planting banking, investment and residency flags internationally to get security, privacy, and opportunity. You need to plant electronic flags internationally for the same reasons.

We discussed how to select an international email service in a previous article here at International Man. Getting your email communications outside of your current jurisdiction makes it much more difficult for your home authorities to read what you are sending out. This is even more important when what you are internationalizing is not something that is required to be reported at home (such as directly-held international real estate for US citizens). Send and store your email about those activities on a system outside of your home country.

We have also discussed how to select and use a VPN service to give you privacy from governments and hackers alike when using the Internet. When governments take the step of recording all internet traffic, like outlined above, using a VPN service to protect all the data leaving your computer is the ONLY way to take back some of your privacy.

The Next Steps

If you are putting together a plan for international diversification, make a note in the plan to acquire an email account in another jurisdiction. (Ideally, in a different jurisdiction than one you are planning to live in, as well. Remember that all your flags should be diversified!) Getting an international email account will be one of the easiest steps in the plan, by far.

If you have already started working with people overseas and are discussing sensitive topics, get an international email account immediately, and start using it. You cannot remove the emails that the government may have already recorded, but you can stop sending them more.

Make a decision, and subscribe to a service. Use this VPN when connecting to your international email account and any websites needed to access overseas accounts.
