Deliberate Misperceptions created about defence budget

Military capability is required to protect the country from internal and external threats, while political stability and economic prosperity is essential for development. The three components help in protecting the sovereignty, integrity and security of a state as well as well-being of the people. The three are interlinked and cannot be separated from each other. It will be ideal to concentrate entire energies of the state towards economic prosperity and to build up democratic institutions attuned towards welfare of people. An ideal state should be bestowed with sound system of justice where cheap justice is available at doorsteps, one law applicable to all, negligible gap between the rich and poor, the society free of curses of corruption, bribe, nepotism, favoritism and jobbery, equal chances for social growth irrespective of the social status. This is not only idealistic but also subject to geo-political environment in which the country is placed.Pakistan is among the few states whose existence was not accepted by India and from the day one it conspired to reabsorb it into Indian Union. It succeeded partially in 1971 when it broke Pakistan into two and converted its eastern wing into Bangladesh. It is now conspiring to further truncate Pakistan. On its west is unfriendly Afghanistan, which has traditionally remained pro-India and anti-Pakistan. Of late, India and Afghanistan have become strategic partners and India has increased its influence in Afghanistan manifold. Perpetual hostility of India and deceitful behavior of Afghanistan has kept Pakistan on tenterhooks and in a constant state of insecurity. It was essentially the factor of insecurity which impelled Pakistan’s earlier leaders to gravitate towards the west and seek security in western defence pacts. Although alignment with USA helped Pakistan in building its armed forces, but it was certainly at the cost of development of Pakistan and welfare of the people. Above all, western pacts didn’t help in reducing Pakistan’s security concerns or in preventing breakup of Pakistan in 1971.
An influential lobby in Pakistan at the behest of detractors of Pakistan has all along been critical of armed forces and its defence expenditure. It sells a mischievous misperception that but for 60% of national budget getting consumed in defence; Pakistan would have become a prosperous state. Maulana Fazlur Rahman alleged that ‘one day’s Army budget is the combined annual budget of education and health’. He forgot that one day corruption in Pakistan comes to Rupees eight billion as disclosed by Chairman NAB. He also forgot that unlike military run institutions which are welfare oriented, they pay taxes and are running in profit, all public sector enterprises are running in losses and second largest portion of budget gets consumed in keeping them afloat. Losses incurred by them can meet the needs of defence. Another falsehood in circulation is that the military consumes a very big portion of government expenditures. The reality is that in 2012/13, defence affairs and services consumed only 17% of all government expenditures. Largest amount of budget is spent on domestic debt servicing.
Those propagating curtailment of defence expenditure to be able to develop economy forget that militarily weak Pakistan will tempt adventurers to either step in or destabilize it from within employing covert means. Economic prosperity is possible only when the country is free of external and internal threats, or is militarily in a position to thwart the threats, or has abundant mineral resources. All economic deals and bilateral trade agreements will remain mutually beneficial if the deals have been signed from a position of equivalent or near parity military strength. Diplomatic and political clout will be of some substance if one has military capability matching the hostile neighbor wanting to have its way.
China couldn’t have made such an impressive progress in its four-point modernization program and turned into an economic giant on the strength of its economy alone. While pursuing an overall defensive strategy, it never ignored the growth of its military potential to keep its adversaries at bay. There was a time when it was militarily weak, Britain imposed opium wars on China to force it to buy and consume opium from it. Learning a lesson from history, China has been spending huge amounts to build its military might, both conventional and unconventional to deter its enemies.
Likewise, India’s military muscle enabled it to extract benefits from the current and former super power as well as western world, Muslim world and Japan. The US is keen to make India a world power and a bulwark against China because of its military and economic strengths. India’s expanding military prowess motivated China to push border dispute on the backburner and to forge trade and cultural ties with India. India couldn’t have pursued its hegemonic policies against all its neighbors in South Asia on its economic strength alone. Its vast military capacity propels India to nurture grandiose plans of converting India into Mahabharat stretching as far as Afghanistan and Indonesia including Pakistan.
On 16 November 2012, Indian journalist Kuldip Nayar on the occasion of his book launching ceremony at Dhaka, ‘Beyond the Lines’, held the partition of subcontinent fallacious and expressed his utopian desire of reunifying the countries of the subcontinent to single entity of Akhand Bharat. He advocated formation of ‘South Asian Union’ on the lines of European Union, which is yet another Indian floated idea of ‘confederation’. It gives a fair idea that even after passage of 65 years Indian political leaders and elites have not given up the hope of undoing Pakistan and Bangladesh and establishing mythical Akhand Bharat.
India’s ambitious force modernization program has been at the cost of 70% Indians living below poverty line. Despite such a high a rate of poverty and illiteracy, there has hardly been any dissenting voice heard from within India objecting to lavish defence spending. No demand has been made to cut its ever increasing defence budget each year. But for the huge defence budget allocation of $40.44 billion, India couldn’t have employed over 1500,000 security forces to combat insurgents and separatists in its 19 states including occupied Kashmir where 700,000 troops are deployed since 1989. Its military which is in illegal occupation of Siachin Glacier since June 1984 couldn’t have sustained a corps size force for that long. But for its military clout, India which remained in the Soviet camp from 1947 till 1990 would not have been gladly accepted as a strategic partner by the sole super power and let it regain its lost influence in Afghanistan.
Had Pakistan not striven to maintain military balance with India at the cost of economic development, Pakistan by now might have got fragmented or turned into a satellite of India. One of the main contributory reasons of political chaos and economic meltdown in Pakistan has been the meddlesome role of India, which has been impeding its economic and political growth through intrigues and coercive tactics. Although Indian military has outpaced Pakistan’s military with a big margin, Pakistan’s minimum nuclear deterrence has restrained it from embarking upon high-cost risky venture. It is Pakistan’s nuclear capability which impelled India to resort to indirect strategy. Having put on the mask of friendship, it has been involved in covert war in concert with its strategic partners since 2002 to destabilize, denuclearize, de-Islamize and balkanize Pakistan.
Pakistan has been deviously embroiled in the futile war on terror imposed by USA which is eating into its vitals. Pakistan military resources are progressively dwindling in fighting this war with no end in sight, impacting its operational, technical and administrative fitness for war. Despite being so heavily engaged in this war for a decade, which is termed by some as an existential war, and despite being faced with three dimensional threats, it is indeed surprising that Pak Army has curtailed rather than increased its annual defence budget. Yet it is being propagated that military expenditure have been constantly on the increase. This is far from truth. Since 1990s, there has been a steady decline from 3.6% of GDP to 2.5% of GDP in 2012/13.
Current Army’s expenditure is at the lowest in history of Pakistan. While Pakistan’s total budget for the financial year 2012/2013 is Rupees 2960 billion, defence budget is Rupees 545, that is, 18.4% of total budget. Defence budget for Army, Navy and Air Force is 50% (Rupees 272 billions), Navy 25% (Rupees 136 billion), and Air Force 25% (136 billion). Army gets only 9% of total budget and not 60% as propagated. Further slashing the defence budget would be at the cost of compromising our defensive posture with crippling effects. Another myth which has been given publicity by US media is that the Army pocketed $ 10 billion Coalition Support Funds whereas in actuality it received only $1.8 billion as reimbursement for services it rendered.
Pakistan military would have certainly drastically cut down its defence budget and even its force structure had India been willing to do the same. Or India had given a written commitment that it wouldn’t resort to covert or overt war and would live as a peaceful and friendly neighbor. The US which is continuously preaching that India poses no threat to Pakistan has also not given any guarantee. Even if it gives a guarantee, it will have little value since it didn’t honor its 1959 agreement in 1971. Pakistan could have given up its weapon grade nuclear capability if India had reciprocated to Pakistan’s suggestion of making South Asia a nuclear free zone. India’s plea of upgrading its military potential because of threat from China is frivolous.
Given the hostile track record of India, bulk of strike formations poised against Pakistan, its Pakistan specific Cold Start doctrine, its refusal to resolve longstanding disputes of Kashmir, Siachen and Sir Creek, its resort to water terrorism to dry up Pakistan, its heavy involvement in FATA and Balochistan, its efforts to isolate and strategically encircle Pakistan and make it a failed state, it will be utterly foolish to suggest downgrading our defensive effort. It is like joining hands with enemies of Pakistan and fulfilling the long cherished desire of our arch enemy which misses no opportunity to harm Pakistan. Willful misperceptions by a handful of misguided politicians, journalists and pseudo intellectuals about defence budget to misguide the people and to defame and undermine the Army must end. Its huge sacrifices under extremely adverse conditions must be acknowledged and lauded.

Misguiding the Baloch People

Both the Baloch leaders shared same views in misguiding the Baloch people by concealing the real situation of Baloshistan, created by Pakistan’s external enemies. During the hearing in the Supreme Court, Sardar Akhtar Mengal distorted the facts, while raising false allegations against the security agencies of the country, which have continuously been leveling by the anti-Pakistan elements. Giving a six-point solution to the Balochistan issue, Akhtar Mengal suggested to the Supreme Court that all proxy death squads, operating under the supervision ISI or MI in the province should be disbanded. He stated that all missing persons who are under the custody of intelligence agencies should be produced, and Baloch political parties should be allowed to resume their political activities without any interference from these agencies. Mengal explained that those responsible for torture, killing and dumping of bodies of Baloch political leaders and activists should be brought to justice. He added that military operation should be stopped in the province and measures should be taken for the rehabilitation of the displaced Balochis.
In reply to Akhtar’s statement, the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered that all the disappeared people should be produced before the court and proxy death squads formed by the ISI and MI should be disbanded. Afterwards, Akhtar Mengal revealed that he will not talk to the government about any reconciliation process unless the acceptance of his six points.
Talal Akbar Bugti showed the same tone by inciting the Balochis against the centre in some diplomatic style. While emphasising that the government should provide basic rights to Baloch people, he blamed the security agencies for killing of people, missing persons and military operation in Balochistan. He also declared that he would not take part in the elections until FC, ISI and MI leave the province.
Besides, political leaders like Nawaz Sharif of PML-N), Syed Munawar Hasan, Ameer of Jamaat-i-Islami and Chairman Imran Khan of PTI including those of other religious parties who met Akhtar Mengal and Talal Bugti encouraged them in maligning country’s key security institutes, and misguiding the Balochis about the missing persons in order to increase their vote bank at the cost of Pakistan’s integrity. Especially Imran Khan supported the six-points of Sardar Akhtar Mengal.
Talal also invited all political parties to make grand alliance for general elections and to lend a hand to pull the country out of the present crisis. However, during their interaction with media Akhtar Mengal started following the tone of late Sheikh Mujibur Rehman, while Talal indicated that the current situation of Balochistan is worse than that of West Pakistan in 1971. Nevertheless, the federal government and the armed forces in a joint statement to the Supreme Court, rejected assertions of Baloch leaders Sardar Akhtar Mengal and also of Tala Bugti saying that “armed forces are neither conducting any military operation in Balochistan nor are there any death squads of intelligences agencies in the province.” The statement clarified that no missing person was in the custody of the secret agencies and every political party in Balochistan was free to work.
In fact, baseless accusations of both the Baloch leaders are part of a deliberate campaign which has been accelerated by the foreign-based NGOs, human rights groups and media against Islamabad. With the secret support of American CIA, Indian RAW and Israeli Mosssad which are well-penetrated in these entities and Pakistani media are being used for vile propaganda against Pak Army, ISI and FC in relation to the human rights violations and disappeared persons. US, India and Israel seek to separate Balochistan from the federation of Pakistan to obtain their secret strategic designs. With the help of Baloch separatist leaders who have taken refuge in western countries, these hostile entities are perennially distorting the image of Islamabad and its security agencies in relation to Balochistan.
For these sinister aims, on July 31, 2011, a rally was organised by Baloch Human Rights Council in UK in front of the US Embassy in London, which raised false allegations such as inhuman torture and extrajudicial murder of the Baloch intellectuals by the Pakistan’s security agencies. Besides, a demonstration was held outside the United Nations in Genva on the occasion of the 19th Session of UN Human Rights Council to condemn the human rights violations in Balochistan. Apperently, the demonstration was organised by Mehran Baloch, Balochistan’s representative at the United Nations and Noordin Mengal, but in fact, it was arranged by anti-Pakistan entities and Indo-Israeli lobbies with the cladestine assistance of America. On all these occasions, Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Talal Bugti played a key role secretly.
Recently, the delegation of the UN Working Group also visited Pakistan to know about human rights violations and situation of missing persons, particularly of Balochistan. As the UN is under the influence of the US-led major countries, so it also raised similar allegations against Pakistan’s security agencies. Regrettably, Akhtar Mengal and Talal Bugti also met those media anchors who are working on the payroll of the foreign elements, and they provided them false information to misguide the general masses about Balochistan.
Reliable reports suggest that these media commentators and Baloch separatist elements including Akhtar Mengal and Talal Bugti have been invited by the US officials and participated in their secret meetings in Pakistan so as to accelerate propaganda against Balochistan as part of a conspiracy against the country.
Pakistan’s internal elements, especially political parties should know that the reality behind the worsening circumstances and the missing people of Balochistan is that secret agencies like CIA, RAW and Mossad which have well-established their collective network in Afghanistan are in collusion, and have perennially been supporting bomb blasts, suicide attacks, abductions, target killings, ethnic and sectarian violence in Balochistan through their affiliated militant groups such as Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Jundollah (God’s soldiers), Balochistan National Party led by Sardar Akhtar Mengal and other Baloch feudal lords (Sardars) to dismember Pakistan. Their subversive activities have resulted in missing persons in Balochistan.
In this regard, Pakistan’s Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik repeatedly disclosed that he also showed proof about training camps being run in Afghanistan, and supply of arms and ammunition by the Afghan government to Baloch separatists inside Balochistan. Malik explained that BLA has owned 299 terror attacks in the province in which more than 170 personnel of the FC were martyred. It is mentionable that a Gallup survey of the UK official body, DFID, conducted on July 20, this year, disclosed that the vast majority of the Baloch people oppose the idea of an independent Balochistan. This survey has proved that some external elements have been conducting acts of sabotage in the province by backing the minority groups.
While, civil, federal and provincial governments are making strenuous efforts to restore peace and order in the province. For this purpose, a paramilitary committee has also been formed by the ruling party to hold negotiations with the disgruntled elements. And recently, Chief of Army Stall Gen. Kayani stated that the military would support any political settlement in Balochistan within the confines of the constitution.
No doubt, on the direction of their foreign masters, Baloch leaders Akhtar Mengal and Talal Bugti have returned Pakistan to further misguide the Baloch people by arousing their sympathies through their pre-conditions and by manipulating the law and order situation.

Satellite Phone Seized from Al-CIA-Da Terrorist Shakeel Afridi

The sources said Afridi made over 50 domestic and international calls from the phone set. “Data is being assessed to ascertain the international locations to which he phoned.” They sources further said jammers had been installed on the prison premises after the controversial interview of Dr Afridi with a foreign television. Officials of the prison were not available for comments as their mobilephones remained off despite repeated attempts by this scribe.

Fox News lies busted; ISI denies Shakil Afridi was interviewed

Fox News claimed that its correspondent had conducted the interview in Peshawar Central Jail, and quoted Dr Afridi as saying that he suffered “brutal interrogation and torture” by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) when arrested. According to Fox, Afridi accused the ISI of funding militants, regarding the US as its “worst enemy”, while it accused Pakistan of cooperating with the US only to extract money, amongst numerous other allegations.
Fox News only aired the transcript of the purported exclusive, but did not indicate whether it was a video or audio interview. It also does not say how its reporter managed to enter the jail or meet Dr Afridi. On Tuesday, the interview was categorically denied by officials at Peshawar Central Jail and the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa home and tribal affairs department and ruled out any possibility of interviewing Dr Afridi inside the jail. “Dr Afridi is beyond the access of media and the news published, whether audio or video, is ambiguous and false as no one can meet [him] without approval of the provincial government and jail authorities,” said a statement issued by the Peshawar Central Jail.
The statement read that the K-P government regretted the story published by Fox News since only family members had been allowed to meet Afridi once a month at an office of the deputy superintendent jail. The home department’s Section Officer (Media) Qamar Ali also told The Express Tribune that Afridi had been under strict security, adding that only his family members, after approval of the provincial government, were allowed to meet him once a month.
“The news is completely vague and untrue,” said Ali. Afridi’s 18-member defence counsel has also denied the interview, terming it baseless and fallacious.
Samiullah Afridi, counsel for Afridi, told The Express Tribune that “after establishing contact with Dr Afridi … we his lawyers, on behalf of Dr Afridi and his family, completely deny the report released by Fox News, terming it baseless and merely a publicity stunt. Dr Afridi is standing firm on his stance that he never aided the CIA in any covert operation in Pakistan.”
He added that it was impossible for anyone other than his lawyer and relatives to meet Dr Afridi for an interview inside the prison, saying Afridi’s security is directly monitored by the ISI itself. “Others cannot even think about contacting Dr Afridi,” said Samiullah, adding that neither could could anyone call him as mobile networks of all the cellular companies are jammed inside prisons. Samiullah believed that the interview was a ploy to pressurise Pakistan.
“Just look at the timing: A US senator stands up in favor of Afridi and demands the US senate to stop aiding Pakistan, and on the same day an American news channel airs the interview,” Samiullah said adding that it could be a plot to kill Afridi by fuelling hardened prisoners. He went on to add that there was now a heightened security threat to Afridi’s life. “There are hardcore militants inside the prison and once they come to know that Afridi has been interviewed by an American news channel, they would never leave him alive.”.
ISI's denial:
Meanwhile, ISI officials requesting anonymity told The Express Tribune that the interview by Fox News was concocted and baseless, adding that the main purpose of this report was to malign the ISI and damage Pak-US relations. The officials confirmed that no one was allowed to see Dr Afridi without prior approval from higher intelligence authorities and only Afridi’s lawyers see him when there is a case hearing.

Former Reporter Amber Lyon Exposes Massive Censorship at CNN

I saw first-hand that these regime claims were lies, and I couldn’t believe CNN was making me put what I knew to be government lies into my reporting.(Amber Lyon)
The Amber Lyon story is just the latest in a series of articles that expose the total Joseph Goebbels like censorship rampant in mainstream media today. The first one I posted several weeks ago exposed how the NY Times basically just regurgitates whatever government officials tell them, while the other showcased how an NPR reporter covering D.C. had to leave and do her own thing out of frustration. This is precisely why alternative media sites are taking off. They provide the only outlets left for genuine journalism.
So back to Amber. Back in March 2011, CNN sent a four person team to Bahrain to cover the Arab Spring. Once there, the crew was the subject of extreme intimidation amongst other things, but they were able to record some fantastic footage. As Glenn Greenwald of the UK’s Guardian writes in his blockbuster article from today:
In the segment, Lyon interviewed activists as they explicitly described their torture at the hands of government forces, while family members recounted their relatives’ abrupt disappearances. She spoke with government officials justifying the imprisonment of activists. And the segment featured harrowing video footage of regime forces shooting unarmed demonstrators, along with the mass arrests of peaceful protesters. In sum, the early 2011 CNN segment on Bahrain presented one of the starkest reports to date of the brutal repression embraced by the US-backed regime.
Despite these accolades, and despite the dangers their own journalists and their sources endured to produce it, CNN International (CNNi) never broadcast the documentary. Even in the face of numerous inquiries and complaints from their own employees inside CNN, it continued to refuse to broadcast the program or even provide any explanation for the decision. To date, this documentary has never aired on CNNi.
Having just returned from Bahrain, Lyon says she “saw first-hand that these regime claims were lies, and I couldn’t believe CNN was making me put what I knew to be government lies into my reporting.”
After Lyon’s crew returned from Bahrain, CNN had no correspondents regularly reporting on the escalating violence. In emails to her producers and executives, Lyon repeatedly asked to return to Bahrain. Her requests were denied, and she was never sent back. She thus resorted to improvising coverage by interviewing activists via Skype in an attempt, she said, “to keep Bahrain in the news”.
In March 2012, Lyon was laid off from CNN as part of an unrelated move by the network to outsource its investigative documentaries.
“At this point,” Lyon said, “I look at those payments as dirty money to stay silent. I got into journalism to expose, not help conceal, wrongdoing, and I’m not willing to keep quiet about this any longer, even if it means I’ll lose those payments.”
Amber Lyon, I salute you.

Amnesty International: An Instrument of War Propaganda

Amnesty
International has released satellite pictures of "craters" in Syria,
citing : "an increased use of heavy weaponry, including near residential
areas".
The
BBC reports, quoting Amnesty: "Images from Anadan revealed more than 600
probable artillery impact craters from heavy fighting between Syrian armed
forces and armed opposition groups." (My emphasis.)
Further:
"Turning Syria's most populous city into a battlefield will have
devastating consequences for civilians. The atrocities in Syria are mounting
already," warned Christoph Koettl, emergency response manager for Amnesty
International USA, without acknowedging that the killings of civlians are
committed by the US-NATO Free Syrian Army (FSA) rather than the government.

Amnesty's
record on impartiality suffered a fatal blow when they stated in 1991 that

calling for the overthrow of the sovereign Syrian government. A plan which was
outlined by the US Embassy in Damascus in December 2005. This action arguably
falls under the definition of incitement to terrorism, set out by the UN

The
Syrian government is doing what any nation would do to defend its country when
attacked by terrorists, many from outside and many also with British accents,
according to recently escaped, kidnapped British and Dutch journalists.
However,
back to your 600 craters. The insurgents also seemingly have rocket propelled
grenades and have also boasted of capturing tanks with heavy weaponry. However
many craters or not, they will certainly be responsible for many and will not
have clean hands.
Further,
I do not seem to remember Amnesty blasting the British and Americans soldiers
for killing, raping, murdering whole families of Iraqis and Afghans, also
illegally invaded, who simply wanted their countries back, or were totally
innocent victims.
No
doubt the all is now directed by your new US Head, former top aide to Hilary
Clinton who seems to hate most of the world's non Western population,
especially those of the Middle East, or of predominantly Muslim heritage.
Amnesty
has moved a long way from its fine founding aims.

CNN Ratings Drop 20% Again

advise to always leave the stage on a high note. Just days after CNN President
Jim Walton announced his departure from the network, though, the latest ratings
suggest he never got the memo. CNN’s numbers are once again plummeting fast.
For
the month of July 2012, CNN’s viewership was only around one-fifth of what they
saw just a year earlier. Media Bistro has published the latest numbers for the
cable news network, and across the board the station shows signs of struggling,
even after some serious revamping in recent months.
Compared
with statistics for July 2011, total viewership for CNN has sunk 20 percent,
and in other categories the figures are ever worse. Among 24-54 year olds, CNN
is seeing a drop of 23 percent this year, with the same decline in ratings down
for its primetime broadcast. In terms of how often same age group tunes in
during primetime hours, CNN’s statistics are down 26 percent from last year.
Walton,
a 30-year veteran of CNN, announced last Friday that he’d be leaving the station
after manning its helm for the last decade.
“I've
been doing this job I'm in now for 10 years and I'm ready for a change,” Walton
wrote to his co-workers. “CNN needs new thinking. That starts with a new leader
who brings a different perspective, different experiences and a new plan, one
who will build on our great foundation and will commit to seeing it through.
And I’m ready for a change. I have interests to explore and I want to give
myself time to do it.
Walton
also acknowledged that “CNN has had its up and down” like all companies, but
his announcement of his resignation — scheduled for later this year —could not
have coincided with a more appropriate time. Earlier this year it was widely
publicized that CNN was experiencing their worse ratings since the early 1990s,
and according to the latest numbers resurgence in popularity might not be
around the corner.
Media
Bistro adds that the 10 p.m. edition of Anderson Cooper 260 is down 34 percent
in total viewers, although AC360, Cooper’s more laid-back televised news
magazine, has experienced a brief jump in the single digits.

Chinese Destroyer Enters Mediterranean via Suez

A
Chinese destroyer sailed through Egypt's Suez Canal into the Mediterranean Sea,
Egyptian daily Al-Shuruk reported on Sunday.
The
destroyer could be on its way to the Syrian coast, the Egyptian newspaper
reported, adding that the warship is planning to hold naval manoeuvres in the
area.
Al
Shuruk daily further claimed that the canal authority authorized the Chinese
ship's crossing through the canal following permission from the Egyptian armed
forces.
Meanwhile,
Egypt's Al-Wafd website reported that high security measures were taken during
the ship's crossing of the canal.
Beijing,
an ally of Syria, has repeatedly blocked Western-backed Security Council
attempts to increase pressure on Syrian President Bashar Assad to end the
violence sparked by a government crackdown on pro-democracy protesters.
Last
month reports claiming that the armies of Iran, China, Russia and Syria are
planning to hold naval manoeuvres in the Mediterranean Sea were circling the
media outlets. According to the report, 90,000 soldiers from the four countries
will take part in the large-scale maritime war games, which will be held off
the Syrian coastline.
In
February, two Iranian naval ships sailed through Egypt's Suez Canal into the
Mediterranean, and according to Iranian reports, the ships docked in Syria.
Just
last month, Russia said that it had dispatched a flotilla of 11 warships to the
eastern Mediterranean, some of which would dock in Syria.
Moscow's
gesture was the largest display of Russian military power in the region since
the Syrian conflict began. Nearly half of the ships were capable of carrying
hundreds of marines.
Western Media’s Syria Propaganda Is Falling Apart

The story that captured the corrupt Western media’s attention was Syria. The
conflict was heating up, and the “international community” was being pressed to
take action against the country. “Assad is killing his own people,” they said,
without offering any evidence. “This is the next domino to fall in the Arab
Spring, the rebels must be supported and Assad has to step down,” so went the
propaganda. And yadda yadda. The media’s insane lies were repeated for months.
Major media channels were engaged in non-stop propaganda warfare to destroy the
independent Syrian state and reduce Syrians to slavery.
But
then something remarkable and unexpected happened. Some Western journalists
began telling the truth about the origins of the conflict, the true motives
behind the West’s anti-Syria propaganda, and the nature of the unpopular Syrian
opposition.
The
spell was broken.
In
June, German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) reported that the
infamous Houla massacre was committed not by Assad’s forces, as it was claimed
by the Western media at first, but by the NATO-backed terrorist opposition.
The
official narrative about the Syrian conflict fell apart at that point. The
moral case for overthrowing Assad was lost because it was based on total lies.
The naked aggression by NATO’s barbaric pawns against Syrian civilians was
clear to see for anyone who was paying attention.
The
Global Alternative Media Rises: End of Mainstream Propaganda
The
establishment media no longer has a monopoly on reality. Official lies are
challenged, buried truths are dug up, and objective reality is preserved. The
magician’s tricks have been revealed by spoilers in the crowd. The global
alternative media is rising and it is an engine of peace, liberation,
understanding, and sanity.
In
fact, establishment journalists have already gone crazy and lost their grip on
reality. Their world is falling down around them and their temporary power is
disappearing by the day. Truth is too strong a force. The establishment media
is going against the gravity of reality and it is losing the battle.
But
not everybody in the Western media has lost their heads and hearts. There are
still some respectable and honourable journalists around who place the facts of
history above the lies of governments. The writer “b” of MoA writes:
“There
seems to be slight turn in the western media coverage of Syria. Here in Germany
the press has now more reports showing the “rebels” as what they really are:
traveling jihadists and foreign paid rabble. Commentators on the news websites
are now mostly highly critical about the usual propaganda pieces and the German
government policy of supporting the SNC. There also seems to be a slight shift
in international media.”
Whereas
in the recent past the Western establishment media was all-powerful and its
official narratives were unquestioningly accepted by the general public, today
its legitimacy is rapidly collapsing and it is failing to make people believe
in government lies.
Young
consumers of news are looking to the rising global independent media to get the
facts about critical issues and conflicts. In the process, their worldview is
changing and their government-made beliefs are dying.
The
truth about Syria, like the truth about 9/11, can be suppressed for the time
being but it cannot be erased from the record of history.
Tony
Cartalucci says that Western propaganda against Syria has gotten too out of
control and as a result it is falling to pieces. The tangled lies are being
exposed before their usefulness can be exploited. Here is an excerpt from
Cartalucci’s article, “US Treasury: Al Qaeda Runs Syrian “Rebellion”:
“Now,
it appears that the West’s Arab “foreign legion,” Al Qaeda, is about to suffer
an unprecedented defeat – not at the hands of Western anti-terrorism forces,
but at the hands of Syrian troops in the city of Aleppo. In a desperate effort
to prevent this, the West is employing a series of desperate strategies ranging
from portraying the trapped foreign-fighters committing atrocities inside
Aleppo as “pending a certain massacre,” to using the very presence of these
foreign-fighters as evidence “Al Qaeada” is operating in Syria and must be
“stopped” by Western intervention.
It
is essential to understand that, as empires have always done, the monolithic
corporate-financier interests of the West seek regional hegemony as a step
toward global domination, and will say and do anything in order to achieve it.
As resistance increases, the West’s lies become more difficult to sell, the
consistency of their propaganda overtly crumbling. The West, in nearly a single
breath, has now claimed FSA fighters are both “Al Qaeda” that need to be
eliminated, while also impeding a “massacre” by Syrian forces if something
isn’t done to save them.
When
US President Obama referred to the “depths of depravity” regarding Syrian
security operations in Aleppo, he and his script writers do so with the belief
that Americans, and the world, are ignorant and disinterested in the truth, and
will gladly allow Western foreign policy to once again prey on their emotions
and good intentions to sell yet another destructive, self-serving military
intervention.”
It
is strange to hear that Washington is at war with Al-Qaeda in Yemen, and, at
the same time, it is an ally of Al-Qaeda in Syria. Only one of these two things
can be true. Washington is either at war with Al-Qaeda or it is not.
Washington’s
sense of logic is funny and twisted, but it is not unique. That’s the way of
the world. Throughout history, empires first conquer the truth, reality, and
human consciousness, and then move their way to resource-rich lands.
The
power of an empire is dependent on the cult beliefs and cult personalities that
are created to justify its brutal rule at home and abroad.
It
is a sign of hope for the world and for the collective life of mankind when the
sovereignty of truth overcomes an empire of death, in whatever age in human
history.
