Indonesia Keen to Boost Ties, Bilateral Trade with Pakistan

FAISALABAD: Indonesian Ambassador in Pakistan said on Wednesday that his country was keen to boost trade ties with Pakistan. “Following the Preferential Trade Agreement signed by Pakistan and Indonesia, bilateral trade ties will strengthen”, said Ishak Latuconsina during a meeting with office-bearers of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and industry and the business community of district. The ceremony regarding PTA was historical, where Secretary Commerce Zafar Mahmod was also present to finalize the agreement. The envoy elaborated that also Indonesia faced financial crisis in 1997. He expressed the hope that the current difficulties and challenges of Pakistan will be resolved soon. He stressed that good management and unflawed policies are the key to success.

He also mentioned the cooperation of both the countries in the fields of health, education and trade. He admired the role of Faisalabad city in country’s economic growth and its textile exports. “Embassy will support the FCCI delegation and exhibitions in Indonesia”, he added. “There is vast opportunity to export textile products to us because Indonesia shall reduce duties on cotton and textile products in near future.” Earlier in his welcome address, FCCI President Muzammil Sultan said that Pakistan and Indonesia always enjoyed cordial and friendly relations. He elaborated that the two countries have well established trade links. He hoped that the PTA will lead to FTA soon. Under the PTA, Pakistan will reduce duties on 287 products while Indonesia will reduce duties on 216 tariff lines.  Pakistan is a major user of Indonesian rubber & nylon tyres and its other related products. Therefore, it is dire need to supply such products on cheaper price. He suggested that Muslim countries should strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties. During the question and answer session, Engr Suhail Bin Rashid, Abdul Qayyum and Rehan Ishfaq also discussed important issues. At the end of meeting, FCCI Vice President Rehan Naseem Bharara offered vote of thanks, whereby the President FCCI presented the FCCI souvenir to the chief guest.
