RMT: UK Government itself Sparking Riots

Britain’s largest specialist transport union has warned the government will demolish the social structure in the country and trigger riots with its planned concessions to the rich amid major job cuts aimed at lower earners. General secretary of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union Bob Crow said the government has already created a wide gap between the rich and the poor and tax cuts to top earners would put the matter to the verge of breakdown. “If all the leaks and spin are to be believed this rotten Government of the wealthy elite is planning to hand out tax cuts for the rich while presiding over attacks on transport and the wider public services that would reduce them to rubble,” Crow said. “The gap between rich and poor has widened to unprecedented levels in modern times under this bunch of chancers and further concessions to the rich would impact directly on social cohesion and the anger generated could well spill over into further riots on Britain’s streets as the disaffected and disenfranchised lash out at a system that has failed them,” he added.

Crow also launched an oblique attack on the government for steering the economy into a crisis, which has given top entrepreneurs and investors the upper hand in policymaking. The government faced bankers’ threats to move to Switzerland after it announced it may impose a higher tax rate for those earning £150,000 or more. However, in the Wednesday budget, Chancellor George Osborne is expected to scrap or cut the higher rate for top earners in an attempt to prevent the bankers’ exodus that could deal a tax blow to Britain’s ailing economy. This is while, Crow said no such concession should be given to bankers and other rich people at the expense of lower earners. “If the bankers, spivs and speculators who would benefit from the widely-trailed tax cut are saying they would leave the country if the Government don’t cave into their demands, and take their unalloyed greed elsewhere, then RMT would say good riddance to them,” he said.
