Hitting Pakistan's Ideology is an attempt to Weaken Pakistan: General Kayani

COAS Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kayani
RAWALPINDI – Pakistan Army on Monday celebrated ‘Martyrs Day’ to commemorate the sacrifices of the military men who laid down their lives in the line of duty and organised ‘Yaadgaar-e-Shuahada Parade’ at General Headquarters in this connection.Speaking on the occasion, Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani said the roles to be performed by organs of state are clearly mentioned in the constitution. The COAS paid profound homage to the army men and civilians who were buried in Gayari sector Skardu due to last month’s deadly avalanche that swept military’s regimental headquarter in the area and said that Pakistan Army was determined to continue with rescue efforts till the soldiers’ bodies were fully recovered. “Our brave men are fighting extreme weather conditions up above 13000 feet only to safeguard their motherland. I salute them. They are sons of the soil. I promise you, we’ll continue with Gayari operation till each and every body buried down there is recovered. No matter what it takes.”

The military’s top man spoke high about Pakistan’s ideology saying, “We as nation can only succeed if we have full faith and believe in Pakistan’s ideology. Creating suspicions in this belief is tantamount to weakening Pakistan.” Gen Kayani recalled last year’s Abbottabad operation as well as attack on Selala picket that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers. He said that certain elements were propagating against Pakistan Army. “Despite these sacrifices, certain circles are out to malign the military. But the army is united to foil any attempt that aims at destabilising this country. We have strived our utmost to safeguard Pakistan and will keep doing so”, he said. “The way Pakistani nation has stood by its army is really commendable and heart touching. We are deeply thankful to our nation and we reiterate that Pakistan Army would live up to the nations’ expectations.”

Kayani particularly recalled the sacrifices rendered by Frontier Corps (FC), Frontier Constabulary (FC), Rangers and Police saying that Pakistan’s security forces were ready to pay ‘every price it takes in the motherland’s defence.’ Gen Kayani said Pakistan is facing grave security challenges and its armed forces, security forces and the people were united to sabotage every move against Pakistan. “Together we would defeat every challenge”, the army chief resolved. “Martyrdom is a very noble achievement. Those who have embraced it are lucky and our support, prayers and condolences are with the bereaved families. The blood of the martyrs calls us to stay united. Together we can make Pakistan a strong and welfare state.” The general also spoke high of the international community and those countries that sent their rescue teams to Gayari in order to assist Pakistan Army. Giving background of the Martyrs Day, Gen Kayani said, the Day was dedicated to the martyrs three years ago. “Since then, we celebrate the Martyrs Day annually to pay homage to our great men who have given their blood for this country.”
