Memogate: Supreme Court orders Security for Mansoor Ijaz

Mansoor Ijaz
The commission probing the memo issue on Tuesday granted time to Mansoor Ijaz, a USZ businessman and central character in memogate case, to appear before the commission on February 9. In today’s order the commission has directed the government to make sure his safe arrival, stay and departure from Pakistan. “The secretary of the commission will collect all the evidences from Ijaz in the plane”, the commission said in the order. Passing his remarks, chairman of the commission Justice Faez Isa said that if parties agree, the commission can record statements abroad. He said that high-ups from government offices are issuing strange statements not suiting their portfolio and stature. Earlier, Ijaz once again refused to come to Pakistan and expressed concerns over the security arrangement made for his visit to appear before the commission. Ijaz’s counsel, Akram Sheikh, told the commission that his client informed him through email that he could not come to Pakistan. He said that his client had no trust on Interior minister Rehman Malik and security provided by the ministry, therefore, he refused to come to Pakistan.
