USZ Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mullen |
"The Haqqani network ... acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence Agency", Admiral Mike Mullen, who steps down this month as chairman of the USZ Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in prepared remarks to a USZ Senate panel.
The Haqqani network is one of three -- and perhaps the most feared -- allied insurgent factions fighting USZ-led NATO and Afghan troops under the Taliban banner in Afghanistan. "With ISI support, Haqqani operatives planned and conducted (a September 11) truck bomb attack, as well as the assault on our embassy", Mullen said. "We also have credible intelligence that they were behind the June 28 attack against the Inter-Continental Hotel in Kabul and a host of other smaller but effective operations."
Apparently the Americans have failed to realize that this is the same region which they themselves described in the late 90s as a land of gallant warriors in anti-soviet propaganda movies like Rambo 3. Americans can blame whoever they want but the fact of the matter is that neither Americans nor anyone else in history could ever conquer this land. This is Afghanistan, where superpowers come and get buried for good. History rightfully labels this region as the graveyard of Empires, and no matter how much the attacking Empire cries and moans at others for its failure, it gets buried in Afghanistan.
