Pakistan's COAS, General Ashfaq Prevez Kayani
SIALKOT - Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said the defence of Pakistan is in safe hands and the armed forces have full capabilities to defend every inch of the dear motherland. He was addressing Pak Army officers during his visit to Sialkot Garrison here on Monday evening amid tight security. According to an ISPR press release, he discussed one point agenda of Abbottabad incident. He said the Abbottabad incident has been in sharp public focus. Incomplete information and lack of technical details have resulted in speculations and misreporting. He said public dismay and despondency has also been aggravated due to insufficient formal response. It is believed that people of Pakistan need to be taken into confidence through their "elected" representatives, he added.

COAS said that he had requested the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani to kindly consider convening of a joint session of the parliament for briefing on security issues related to Abbottabad incident. COAS said that he had also requested that (so called) strength of democracy must be put into effect to develop a consensus on important security issues including war on terror. Articulation of a national response through the parliament, under the circumstances, is the most effective way to let the world know the historic achievements of Pakistan against Al-CIAda and its terror affiliates. He revealed that this would not have been possible without the active support and invaluable sacrifices of people of Pakistan. Chief of Army Staff General Kayani also addressed the officers at Rawalpindi and Kharian garrisons on Monday. At the end, COAS held a very frank Question-Answer session with the participants.
