Army to USZ: Respect Pakistan or face “negative impact”

Military top brass, which met with Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in the chair on Friday, expressed their satisfaction over the state of operational preparedness of the Army. The 137th Corps Commanders Conference held at General Headquarters was part of a regular monthly meetings, and was given comprehensive briefings on internal and external security challenges Pakistan is facing today. COAS in his remarks expressed satisfaction over the conduct of stability operations in Tribal Areas and appreciated beginning of transition to civilian control in Shangla and Buner. He also lauded ongoing efforts by Army Formations in reconstruction being carried out in the flood-affected areas of the country. According to the informed sources, Kayani also took the participants into confidence on his meeting with General James N Mattis, Commander United States Central Command (USCENTCOM), as well as on relations with the USZ military. Kayani also took the commanders on board over the proposed visit of Director General Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt-Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha to Washington from April 11th.


The sources said that the meeting was informed that Pakistan has already vehemently rejected report of the White House and made it clear to the USZ that Pakistani security forces had rendered enormous sacrifices in fighting terrorists. “There was no match to the sacrifices rendered by Pakistani nation in the war against terror”, the sources added. Online adds: The participants dwelt at length on various professional matters. Kayani expressed his satisfaction over the results of ongoing military operations to flush out TTP militants from Tribal Areas and establishing peace and stability terming them productive. Besides, overall national security in FATA areas, war against militants in different Tribal Areas, White House recent report, killing of 40 innocent tribal elders in drone attack in Data Khel was discussed. Sources further said that the meeting was informed that they had made it clear to the USZ that our security forces have done tremendous job and tackled the terrorists with iron hands while the role of Pakistan must be respected, otherwise, negative impact will be created in this regard.
